Seeing the Beauty of #Cre8time Leftovers... #ICAD2015 Day 17 - Wabi Sabi

Happy Thursday everyone! I'm trying to squeeze in some Cre8time everyday playing along with ICAD 2015! I've missed a couple days here and there, and I'm way behind in posting them - but I wanted to share this one today... a little collage of scraps with stamping. My stamps are coming in handy and I'm enjoying getting to use them for these diverse prompts.

Day 17 prompt is Wabi-sabi. I had to look this up on google...
Wabi-sabi is the quintessential Japanese aesthetic. It is a beauty of things imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete. It is a beauty of things modest and humble.
Paper scraps are modest and humble... right??!

I've got a bag of scraps on my table filled with torn pieces and misc clippings and stuff leftover from other projects. I am determined to ONLY use these things whenever possible for ICAD this summer. Today's card background is collaged with a section of clothing pattern and 5 rows of green torn paper strips leftover from another project. I am insane about tearing and I seem to have endless pieces in the scrap bag. I love how beautiful and organic a torn edge looks... each is unique with it's own twists and turns.

With the background complete I overstamped with a couple of stamps using Stone Gray Stazon: "Pretty Lady Stamp/Cancellation" #17538 and "Made in China" #1742 {both Viva Las VegaStamps!}. This is coming along nicely!

The cancellation was a bit dark so I collaged another layer of sewing pattern paper over it and scribbled over with some yellow ochre colored pencil. I inked up my feature stamp - "Crooked Tree" #15922 {VLVS!} with Versafine black ink and hit it with some VLVS! embossing powder.

The finishing touch is a Wabi-sabi bowl made from a crumpled scrap of Kraft Glassine with insets of torn bright blue magazine paper. I colored over the blue cracks with Versamarker and hit with embossing powder for a little extra "POP". A little glue stick to tack the bowl down and black PITT pen detailing and I am done :)

I think my card collage using scraps of this and that with a couple stamps fit the description... and I think it's lovely to look at too.

Everyone needs a little Cre8time in their lives and ICAD is perfect for me to squeeze even just a half hour in to play. Have a great day! :) Sb

Wally World or Bust!!! #MakeThings #ICAD2015 Day 15

Hello friends! My super creative pal Katie Smith of Punk Projects is hosting a fun craft challenge for this summer - each week there is a different theme. Play along for your chance to win weekly prizes and an amazing grand prize at the end!

This week's "Make Things!" theme is... INSPIRED by a MOVIE! So I combined my "Index Card a Day" project for today, day 15 - Route 66 with a movie twist. There is a new "Vacation" movie coming out next month bringing back my hubs favorite movie family... the Griswolds. I had fun collaging and mixing a little stamping amongst the layers: consisting of stamped monoprint deli paper, trees torn from magazines and cut out patterned scrapbook paper and die cuts. The map background and route 66 sign are Viva Las VegaStamps! I added a little doodling and details with Faber-Castell PITT pens and this card is ready for the road!

Thanks for dropping by! I'd love to see what you create for the MakeThings! Challenge. Drop me a link and share what movie has inspired your Cre8time. Happy Monday!  :) Sb

It's a #Creatime CELEBRATION for Everyone... Join in the FIFTH YEAR of FUN #ICAD2015

June first marks the beginning of a Cre8time CELEBRATION for everyone to participate in... ICAD 2015! The 5th Anniversary Art Party starts June 1st and I am certainly playing along - and you can too!

What on earth is ICAD?

Starting June 1st - Create something on a 3" x 5" index card every day for 61 days. On the back of each card, add a number to keep track of your progress. ICAD #1, #2, etc. Whatever day you start, it is your own official ICAD #1.

Motto: You do not need to catch up, just start...

just Play. Just make some Cre8time for yourself -
whether it's 5 minutes, 30 minutes or an hour!

You can play along too - visit ICAD for all the details!

When you receive a creative gift like this... of course it's got to be collaged onto an index card. This community magazine cover is a perfect visual for the Cre8time celebration beginning with ICAD2015. I have spent the past several months focusing on health issues which has left my creative mojo a bit depleted. I'm excited to get started and see where this adventure takes me!

With a glue stick and some scissors, I glued this to a blank index card and wrapped edges around the backside. I cut two strips off the scraps and layered over the happy new year and wrote my text with a layering of Faber-Castell PITT pens and Sakura of America Gelly Roll White Soufflé pen. I accented all the fireworks bursts with a little bling... my favorite Gelly Roll Stardust Hologram pen.

I hope you join in and play along. Everyone needs a little Cre8time in their lives! Have a great day! :) Sb
