Freshly Squeezed #Cre8time Summer Crafts with Designer Crafts Connection

Hello Everyone! It's the first Monday of July which brings another Designer Crafts Connection Bloghop... this month is all about "Summertime Crafts". Summer is the time for vacations, days spent at the shore and for many scrapbooking and crafting! Our creatives are sharing projects that inspire your Cre8time for the summer season.

My project I'm sharing today is a bright, sunny citrus paper gift tote created with a handmade stamp. Summer is the perfect time for making mini albums and gifts that are in bright, tropical colors... fortunately, I live in South Florida and it's summer pretty much year round. I don't have to look far for inspiration.

I love making molds of interesting items, many from nature and especially food! For the past couple of months, I have been developed a series of citrus molds - grapefruit, orange, lemon and lime slices to use for my mixed-media and handmade resin jewelry creations.

As a paper crafter and stamper, I think ahead to get double duty from my molds so they can be used for mixed-media applications too. I took this particular mold one step further to create a custom stamp from my citrus slice. I took the existing mold, and generously lubricated mold with vaseline {because Amazing Mold Putty will fuse to itself}.

I mixed up another batch of Amazing Mold Putty and pressed into the mold to make a reverse. I used a small juice glass to press into mold and get a nice flat surface. In about 15 minutes this is cured and ready to use... and I have a relief stamp that is a slice of heaven!

I mount to my acrylic block with some double-sided
adhesive tape and apply ink using a brayer.

Voila! My resulting stamped image. I love the subtle impression it gives, very similar to a traditional fruit or vegetable print - EXCEPT - this stamp is permanent, washable and re-useable! I carried on inking and stamping until I created a couple of sheets of handstamped paper... which I fashioned into this bright, sunny and oooh so tropical paper tote. I accented with some ribbon, burlap trim, purse handles and a few handmade danglies! This came out so AMAZING – this pattern would be fabulous stamped onto fabric to make a tablecloth or a beach tote for the summer, too!

"Tropical Citrus Tote"

This STUNNING background paper for this paper tote is entirely hand-stamped from my DIY stamp created using Amazing Mold Putty!!! It totally looks store bought, right? Who wouldn't love a handmade gift wrapped like this?

Thanks so much for visiting! Continue on the Designer Crafts Connection "Summertime Crafts" by selecting hop back/forward on the logo below to enjoy all of the wonderful inspiration. Happy Creating! Sb :)

#Cre8time brings Superpowers... Steampunk Magneto Bangle

Hello Everyone! Today I have a new upcycled tape spool project to share... and this one is not only FUNctional - but it's totally Steampunk, too!

I'm forever squirreling away empty tape spools to use for crafty projects, and my Cre8time led me to my latest, and possibly greatest bangle. Made of a few stash items and magnetic craft sheets... this came together in a snap and it's not only fashionable, it's MAGNETIC.

No more tiny metal brads or pins all over
the place - they will now stay put.

This was quick and easy to make. I cut a section out of the tape spool and rounded the edges, then covered the entire thing with sections of aluminum tape. I burnished everything down real good with a bone folder then set off embellishing. I cut a section of magnetic sheet to fit and ran through a Cuttlebug diamondplate embossing folder {yes - I squealed with joy}. I wrapped around metal tape bangle and tacked down with some double-sided tape.

Using my Crop-a-Dile I punched some holes, set eyelets and affixed some gears and swirly paperclips with screw brads. I covered up the exposed brad wings on the inside with more aluminum tape to secure and to finish it off.

I'm ready to create... with my new magneto superpowers!!!

The Deflecto Craft Magnetic Sheets couldn't be more fun! They come in a package of three 8" x 15" sheets, with a white backing. These white magnetic sheets can be painted or papered, embellished or customized to any project. Thin enough to cuts easily with scissors, craft knives and die cuts... even emboss. Let your Cre8time get magnetically charged!

How would you create with Deflecto Craft Magnetic Sheets?

I'm GELLIN'... I'm GELLIN' and I totally made it MYSELF!!!!

Hello everyone! I'm happy to report I've FINALLY crossed off something on my creative "bucket list" – try out Gelatin Plate monoprinting! In the process of playing with a new product, I've created an AMAZING DIY No-Gelatin Printing Plate too! There are loads of DIY tutorials online on how to make one of these with Knox Gelatin, but I did some experimenting and give this a try using the new Amazing Mold Rubber! Today I'm sharing my results – ENJOY :)

Amazing Mold Rubber is an easy to use, high strength liquid silicone mold making rubber that is strong, soft and flexible - great for undercut parts and cures in approx. four hours {I timed it for this project - it is 4 hours... YAY}. Amazing Mold Rubber is a two-part liquid rubber used to make extremely elastic molds to produce quick and exact reproductions of your original. Replicas can then be cast in Amazing Casting Resin, Amazing Clear Cast Resin for plastic parts - or use other materials such as plaster, wax, clay or polyester... and that's just the beginning to all the fabulous uses just waiting to be discovered!

After four hours my Amazing Mold Rubber was fully cured and my AMAZING DIY No-Gelatin Rubber Plate was ready for a joyride! This second video is a test run on my faux gelatin plate... and my FIRST TRY at Gellin'...

Isn't this totally AMAZING!!! Now I have two plates in different sizes {one 6" x 7" and the other is 3" x 4"} that I can use simultaneously for double the mixed-media fun! I can totally see how this can become addictive. Here is my first three-paint layer monoprint and I can't wait to make more.

Now that I've got my hands on another brayer, I'm ready to rock n' roll. One brayer to paint with and the other to roll my impressions.

Why an ATC size plate? For my ARTful Lunch... I'm packing a daily ARTful lunchbox of creative playtoys to make a daily ATC while I'm at work. CLICK HERE to read post.

ATC No. 1

I created about 4 or 5 papers using my homemade no-gelatin rubber plate. I overstamped down the side with a handcarved stamp that I made in highschool out of a pink eraser. The silhouette man with dog is from Viva Las VegaStamps! on top of a torn washi tape boardwalk. I added some ( ) and numbers with plastic letter stencils leftover from my summer art camp supplies and blotted before the marker dried to mute the tones.

Thanks for dropping by. Hope you are having a great day! Sb :)
