"Like all of Newman’s best tracks, the single is an instantly lovable melodic gem with a great arrangement and nostalgic, relatable lyrics. I love the bleep-bloopy synth arpeggio that anchors this track, along with the breezy, full bodied acoustic guitars and the arching horn melody, which appears in the intro and returns valiantly in the chorus. Sonically, it’s not far off from what the New Pornographers were doing on their last album Together, but Newman clearly works well with that aesthetic."

"If you aren't familiar with the man's work, then I'd both urge you to make yourself so and also tell you that his work (particularly his solo work) sounds kind of like a mix between mid-period Kinks/Ray Davies (the sensibility), Randy Newman (the melodies), pre-Wild Honey Beach Boys (the harmonies), The Go-Betweens, and whatever other super-crisp power-pop records of which you can think. Maybe The Smithereens, from time to time? Lots of lazer (with a "z") guitars, lots of start-and-stop vocal melody lines, infrequent bouts of ornate and lush orchestration, etc.."

AC Newman - all of my days and all of my days off, 2009

"The final song is like crawling back out into the sunlight and learning to love life again. Whatever’s got Newman on the upbeat, it’s contagious as he sings of some sort of epiphany that leads him to declare with almost religious fervor, “And now I give you all my days, and all of my days off.” Man, with the background vocals chiming in on that happy little chorus, this almost feels like something The Polyphonic Spree might come up with (or at least if you took about twenty instruments away from them). It’s a perfectly sunny, 60’s-inspired note to go out on, which is why repeating that chorus is the perfect way for this album to fade to a close."
