Miscellany on PO receipts from 1970s

Here are a miscellany of marks on green Post Office receipts from the 1970s, from Croscombe, Easton (Wells), Meare, Mells, Walton, Wedmore, Westbury-sib-Mendip, Westhay and Windmill Hill (Glastonbury).

Modern postmarks from village or Town sub-offices are difficult to find as there are few occasions when a local post office will cancel or handstamp things.

Westhay, Weston Zoyland

Westhay post office was originally under Bridgwater until it transferred to Glastonbury in 1941.  The psot office closed in 2010.  The two items below are from 1971 and 1986.

Weston Zoyland post office was under Bridgwater until it closed in 2005.  The first item below from 1906 has a single ring cancel ...

... while the next items all have 'Dulwich' double circle double-arc cancels (because of the length of "WESTON ZOYLAND" the arcs are rather small !).

Westhay, West Pennard, Weston-super-Mare, Wincanton and Middle Street, Yeovil

Finally, to finish off the pile of material that has accumulated in recent months, here are a number of items late in the alphabet starting with a Certificate of Posting from Westhay in 1986.

Next is a telegram to Mr Allen (of cider fame) with a "WEST PENNARD / GLASTONBURY.SOMERSET" double circle double-arc handstamp dated July 1930.

The registered envelope below is from Weston-super-Mare in August 1915 to Japan and has the manuscript annotation "Via Siberia if available or america".

Here is a Wincanton Parcel Post Label dated July 1912.

And finally a registered letter from Middle Street, Yeovil in 1922 with a Yeovil registration etiquette manually filled in with sub-office "1".
