MIA some of the reasons I have been missing

Hello My Crafty Blog Friends and Visitors

I just thought I would give you a heads up as to what has been happening.

On Saturday 21st May my loving Mother-in-law had a fall and the paramedics were called out. This time she wasn't taken into hospital. My brother-in-law had trouble getting her to bed in the night and he asked us all to meet at the house on Sunday morning. We arrived at 10:00 am and found my Mother-in-law on the floor again. The paramedics were called again and this time she went to hospital.

In the meantime my Father-in-law was being difficult and he was reluctant to leave the bathroom. Eventually we got him downstairs and he had some food. In the evening he went to bed as normal.

On the morning of 23rd May my brother-in-law went into the house and found my Father-in-law on the floor. The paramedics were called and he was taken into hospital the same one as his wife.

Early on Tuesday 24th May we got a call saying that my Father-in law had passed away. He had been refusing medication. He died of a heart attack. We went to see our daughter to comfort her. Then we went to the hospital to visit my Mother-in-law.

In the early hours of the morning of 25th May we got a call from our daughter she had gone into labour 2 weeks early. We had to stay at home to let in the people rebuilding our conservatory. Then we dashed up to Andover to sit with our daughter and son-in-law's dog. Our daughter had a very difficult time. She started in Andover hospital but then she had to move to Winchester hospital. She was in labour for 31 hours and ended up having a C-Section and little Issac was born at 8:30 on Thursday 26th May. Our daughter had an infection and had to stay in hospital until 30th May (her birthday). We split our time between Andover to dog sit, Frimley to visit my mother-in-law, home and funeral planning. On Saturday 28th May we found fraud on my parents bank account.

My father-in-law's funeral was on Monday 13th June. It was a proper military affair with flags and pipes if he had been there he would have loved it. After the funeral we visited my mother-in-law. She passed away two days later on Wednesday 15th June. Her funeral was on Tuesday 12th July. This was much easier to arrange as she had left details on what she wanted.

We have been having a financial assessment for my parents which as taken a lot of prep. We have been supporting our daughter and son-in-law a lot.

I just haven't felt like making anything.

We hadn't visited my parents for a while there was just no time to fit it in. We went last week and when we showed them pictures of their great grandson my mum in a moment of lucidity asked for a photo.

Meet Issac he is a delight. I am wondering about making something like this for us to have at home. We have a meeting at my parent's house next week I will take this then.

Sorry about the long tale of woe.

Take care.

Infinity Shaker Card with Cosmo Flowers and new Pollen

Hello My Crafty Blog Friends and Visitors

The weather here is lovely today. I think we will be spending some time in the garden. We did visit our parents yesterday and things for all of them aren't good. They are all comfortable and well looked after.

Here is another of the cards that I made with the One Day Special Collection that is being released on Sunday on Create and Craft by John Lockwood.

I decided to make an infinity shake card.

For this card I used nearly everything that comes in the kit including: Cosmo Flowers and Leaves dies, the Double Flag dies, the Regal Alphabet as well as some of the new Summer Colours Pollen. I used a lot of linen card to.
I found one of my inky backgrounds and trimmed it to fit one of my plastic pockets. Inside I put two shades of the pollen and some silver stars. The pocket was then sealed so that none of the contents could come out.
I made mats and layers to fit the shaker pocket. The front was decorated with the Cosmo Flowers and Leaves and a banner cut with the Double Flag dies. The Alphabet dies were cut into the top layer of the banner.  The centre of the flowers has some of the pollen in them.

I was quite pleased with how this shaker card worked out. I think I will be making some more of these.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Star Trek Golfing themed 70th Birthday Card

Hello My Crafty Blog Friends and Visitors

How is your week going? My mother-in-law is back in hospital she was taken in on Monday night during the great Facebook silence. You just don't realise how much you rely on all the messaging services. To keep up to date with my mother-in-law's progress we were using  text messages. She is due out today, the same day as the care starts. She ended up having a blood transfusion as she was so anaemic. Tomorrow we are visiting both sets of parents. It is going to be a busy day.

One of our good friends is 70 today. Here is the card I made for him. He is a big Star Trek fan and he loves playing golf. At the moment he and his wife are  a cruise. Our daughter was very kind and drew the image for me.

I used some green glitter card that looked a bit like grass. The stars came from the Champagne Bottle die set from the John Next Door die set. I added the background and the sentiment on the computer.

Here is the fun image our daughter drew for the card. I just love the expressions on their faces.

Through the power of Facebook I know that he liked his card and that they are enjoying their cruise.

Enjoy the rest of the week

Personalised Happy Wedding Anniversary Card

Hello My Crafty Blog Friends and Visitors

How was your weekend? The weather was certainly nice. We ate a lot of our meals in the garden. There has been a lot to sort out for my family lately so we had a quiet time at home so I could get my head around it all.

Here is an anniversary card that we made for our good friends.

The backing paper was in my stash. The bottle and glasses came from an old shaped card. I chose the paper to match the card.

For the personal touch I used the Stencil Alphabet dies. The stars came from the Champagne Bottle die set. Both from the John Next Door range.

Their anniversary was last week. We gave them some rhubarb flavoured gin and tonic which they liked. This week sees both of their birthdays. We are having a day out with them on Wednesday to celebrate.

Have a good week.

Thank You Cards - Fresh Cut Dies and Designer Papers - Claritystamp

Hello My Crafty Blog Friends and Visitors

How is you week going? We have some lovely weather and we have been able to meet up with friends and family. We have seen our daughter and son-in-law for the first time in ages. The nice weather certainly helps.

We have been given a few Easter gifts. I decided I needed some thank you cards. I had just received a thank you die from Claritystamp and it seemed like a good time to try it out.

I started with a black die cut. I found a pale designer paper to go behind the die cut. Then I cut the die again in silver to get the stars. I found a different designer paper and some card stock to finish off the card.

Here is a purple version made in much the same way.

I kept looking the waste leftover from cutting the stars from the silver die cut. I realised that the sentiment could we cut from the waste. Here it is laid over the purple die cut.

Here are all four of them together. I think I might make a few more.

Enjoy the rest of the week. We have a busy few days coming up.

Dr Who themed Happy Birthday Card

Hello My Crafty Blog Friends and Visitors

How has your week been? We have had ups and downs like most people. We are now waiting to see what the new lockdown measures are for us.

Here is the birthday card I made for a friend. I asked our daughter to draw an image for a Dr Who fan and she obliged.

In the background I used one of my inky kitchen roll papers. The stars were cut with dies that come with the Champagne die set from John Next Door. It is great to be able to cut out so many stars at the same time.

This image came to me pre-coloured so the card was very quick to make. I am so pleased that our daughter has started drawing again. It is such a lovely skill to have.

I am not sure if this card made it to it's destination but it was a fun one to work on.

Have a great weekend.

Happy crafting

Not Just Cards Challenge Blog - July Challenge - Anything Goes

Hello My Crafty Blog Friends and Visitors

I hope you are all well and doing okay. We had a lovely day out yesterday. We went to Furzey Gardens on the edge of the the New Forest in Hampshire. We met our friends there and we shared a lovely picnic together as well as getting coffee  in the cafe. It was so lovely to be out and to see some gorgeous plants. I was even able to buy a couple of plants for our garden. This year our garden has become very important to us like it has to many people.

Back to business the July challenge has started at the Not Just Cards Challenge Blog. The theme is the ever popular Anything Goes.

I have a friend who loves Star Trek (so do I). For her birthday I asked my daughter to draw my friend and her husband as characters from the Next Generation series of Star Trek. My daughter obliged. She has been drawing us as Star Trek characters for years. The moon in the background is my own photograph.  The stars I added were made with a die from the Champagne Bottle die set from the John Next Door range.
Our challenges are always fun. Click on the logo and you will be taken to the blog.

When my friend saw the image she was just so thrilled. I have asked my daughter to draw me some Doctor Who themed images. I know people like seeing themselves as their favourite characters.

There is a little story with the matching gift bag. My friend, saw a gift bag I made on Facebook and challenged me to make a Star Trek themed one. That's how it all started.

Have a great weekend.

Happy Birthday Card for Sam

Hello My Crafty Blog Friends and Visitors

Well the weekend is nearly here. It doesn't make much difference at the moment does it? My hubby and I do try to have a plan for most days. We have found that the days go better when we have a plan. Our neighbour over the road has ten chickens and we have been enjoying the eggs which is brilliant. Our next door neighbour's daughter is a doctor and she has tested positive for the virus. It must be such a worrying time for them. We must all do our bit and stay home as much as we can.

There is a competition on the Crafting with John Next Door and Crafts-Too Facebook group to make a birthday card for Sam. His birthday is at the beginning of May. Now I had made him a card. In fact it is the only thing I have made this week. I have entered the challenge so I thought I would share the card on my blog too.

I started by making the background with the Tartan Stripe Stencil from the John Next Door range. I extended the range of the stencil easily.

This Happy Birthday die is one from Creative Expressions.

I used the large Champagne Bottle dies set from the John Next Door range to make the bottle and the stars. It was a bit tricky getting the angle of the bottle right with the corner of the card.

I have said before that I am Doodling along with Barbara Gray at 10:00 am very weekday. This one took four days to complete. I am very pleased with it.

I keep wanting to sketch things. I never thought I would be able to do draw like this.

I hope Sam likes this card. I will be posting it soon as the post seems to be taking a long time in some cases.

Snippets Thank You Card

Hello My Crafty Blog Friends and Visitors

How has your week been? I have been quite busy. Unfortunately I have hurt my shoulder and this has meant that even with some free time this week  it has been hard to craft. So I am a bit behind where I wanted to be with my makes.

I made a thank you card to send to a very special lady who runs the challenge at Pixie's Snippets Playground. I have been lucky and won a few of the prizes that have been on offer over the years. I have a endless supply of Snippets and I am on a mission to use as many of them as possible. I really enjoy joining in with the challenge. Di often makes me smile with her posts and I am enjoy finding out about what Dudley is getting up to. It is such an achievement to have been running the blog for so long.

Here is the card I made using lots of Snippets of course.

I made the background with strips of patterned papers. It is worth keeping all those Snippets to make the strips. I added stars to the design made with Snippets of silver mirror.

The thank you die is from Crafter's Companion and I used the Refined Rectangle Frame die set to create an interesting mat for the sentiment.

I do love making those backgrounds with the patterned papers.

Not Just Cards - January Challenge - Anything Goes

Hello My Crafty Blog Friends and Visitors

How has your week been? Thank you for all the kind comments on my snippet Christmas cards. It was such a cool idea I wanted to share it. Since I have made another four cards.

Now as it is the 11th of the month it is time for the new challenge at the Not Just Cards Challenge blog. The theme is Anything Goes.

This is the card I made for our son-in-law's birthday back in early December. I used the bottle die set from John Next Door. It comes with all the bits to make the bottle and the wine glasses and stars. The backing paper was in my stash. I chose red for the wine as that is what he likes.

Our challenge is open just click on the logo and you will be taken to the blog to join in.

This is a Creative Expression Happy Birthday die.

The numbers for the year where cut with some Crafter's Companion dies. I think he like his card. I hope you have a good weekend. We are planning to do more tidying and sorting out.

My Husband's Christmas Card

Hello My Crafty Blog Friends and Visitors

How is your week going? I have been busy making Christmas cards again. The weather being the way it is has meant lots more time to craft.

Usually the first Christmas card I make is for my husband. This year with all the things going on I have only just got round to making it. Getting this done made a huge difference to how I am feeling about things. The card for our daughter and son-in-law is already made. Last week I managed to get lots of Christmas cards made with a Hunkydory kit that came free with the November issue of Cardmaking and Papercraft magazine.

I was very quick off the mark to get the Champagne Bottle die set from John Next Door. When I saw it demoed on TV I could see it had lots of potential.

So I used it to make a Christmas card for my hubby. The dies cut beautifully. I embossed the background and used some ribbon from my stash. The card is just a bit smaller than A4. The set comes with two dies that cut out stars. I have wanted dies to do this for ages and in fact I used them first on another card. I also cut some snowflakes in white to add texture to the background.

I used John's sentiment on the label.

I cut the wine glasses in silver mirror card and added red mirror card to look like red wine (it is his favourite).

Here you can see the detail of the bottle. There are lots of dies in the set it has been well though out. I did use some number dies from my collection to add the date.

Usually I post an off set picture of the card. I tried twice and for different reasons the photos  didn't work so I gave up.  I am pleased with how this card turned out. I have already made a birthday card with this die set it is going to be very useful.

Always Fun Challenges - Graduation

Hello My Crafty Blog Friends and Visitors

How has your weekend been so far? Yes some of us get an extra day today. For us that means a day in the garden but I am hoping to get out and do a bit of shopping. Last week we created a space in a border and hopefully we will be able to buy a plant to fill the gap (one that can cope with shade).

The new challenge starts at Always Fun Challenges and the theme is Graduation. As soon I saw this theme I remembered a digi stamp I had from Kenny K. Unfortunately he no longer sells his images.

The gold and black circles were left over from making an aperture for another card. I added  silver stars too. The pink paper was in my stash. I was able to bend the Congratulations die cut round the circle I added a drop shadow to help it stand out.

I used this image for a Design Team card a few years ago. All I can say is that my colouring has improved. I still have a lot to learn. She was coloured with Promarkers and cut out with my ScanNcut. I did decoupage the certificate and the hand. Though this doesn't show in photo.

Have a great day.

Beccy's Place - Ferris Wheel

Hello My Crafty Blog Friends and Visitors

How is your week going? I have been very busy the invigilating has taken a bit of getting used to and of course it has eaten into my craft and blog time.

I am the Guest Designer on Beccy's Place Design Team. Here I am using the second set of images from the second set I was sent.

The background for this card was made with inky kitchen roll that I had dried and stuck to card. The stars were cut with a die I think they were the waste.

There are many wonderful images in at Beccy's Place. If you click on the logo you will be taken there.

I printed the image onto Neenah card and I coloured it with Promakers. Then I cut it out with my ScanNcut.

I put two of the sentiments on the card.

I cut flags for them with some Sue Wilson dies.

There you have is quite a simple card. The colouring always takes me a while.  You can see my card on Beccy's Blog HERE.

Enjoy the rest of the week.

This is such a cute  image. I printed onto Neenah card and and coloured him with my Promarkers. Then I cut him out with my ScanNCut with a suitable border.

I used a Star Border die from Crafter's Companion. I have had this die for a while and this is the first time I have used it. I used some of the off cut stars to add to the background.

This is a die I won a while back I like how the sentiment sticks up.
