Veterans Legacy Grants Program: Overview

Important Dates in 2026

FY2026 Pre-NOFO Workshops:

FY2026 Grant Opportunity:
The official NOFO will be posted on Grants.gov once it is approved and a link will be here.

Grant Proposals:
Grant proposals will be due 30 days following the posting of the NOFO on Grants.gov. The actual date will be on the NOFO.

Grant Awards:
Grant awards will be announced approximately 60 days following the closing of the application period.

Work on Grant Awards:
Work on grant awards is expected to begin no later than September 1, 2026.

Eligible entities for VLGP grants include:

  • Institutions of higher learning
  • Local educational agencies
  • State educational agencies
  • 501(c)(3) Non-profit organizations

In FY2022, NCA's Office of Engagement and Memorial Innovation (OEMI) began administering the Veterans Legacy Grants Program (VLGP) as part of VLP.

VLGP is a federal discretionary grant awarded using a competitive process. This provides a forecast of Funding Opportunities under the Veterans Affairs Discretionary Grant Program.

We invite applications for new awards and will provide actual or estimated deadline dates for the transmittal of applications under these programs.

If you are interested in applying for VLGP grants with the Department of Veterans Affairs, please take the time to gather your teams, schedule query meetings, and ensure that you are familiar with national, state, and tribal cemeteries.

A Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) calls for grant proposals that foster students in colleges and universities, including (K-12), to fund research and provide a tangible report using the stories of those interred in VA's national cemeteries and VA grant-funded cemeteries.

Projects under VLGP can include books, films, graphic novels, educational manuals, as well as electronic database resource materials.
