Blooms and Foliage...May, 2015...

I've been neglecting this blog for a while.
Travel and weed pulling, have gotten in the way.

The middle of each month, though, is when we join
Carol at May Dreams Garden
and
Pam at Digging.
for Bloomday and Foliage Follow-Up.

We've been having a lot of rain.
So, I got out between rains, for some of these photos.

Not much is blooming here.
My garden is way behind some others due to a late freeze.

But, this prickly pear has been showing off a little...one bloom at a time.

This one is in the Drive Bed.
And, it's really been growing.

The Feverfew bloomed this year, too.
The flowers are on long stems, and I'm not too crazy about that.
But, the blooms are pretty.

The Verbena Bonariensis is blooming.
Another one with pretty flowers on long stems.

I tried a Mexican Honeysuckle this year.
I really like it and so do Hummingbirds.

It seems the deer like it, too.
I'll be moving it to the Fenced Yard.

What we have most of here, is foliage.

The Japanese Aralia is finally taking off. Mr. Rooster might get covered up.

Lophantha

and Quadracolor agave are doing well.

The Inland Seaoats are finally filling in the way I planned.
They're loving all this rain.

This Japanese Holly Fern is coming back from the dead.

We got the weeds out of the front beds,
and put down new mulch.

I think some cutting back is in store for the fig tree....
which is in a very wrong spot.
It was here when we got here.

In the veggie garden, the grapes are putting on clusters of grapes.

And, even though they got a very late start, the tomatoes are putting on fruit.

There's more going on here.
But, the sun is out and there's gardening that needs doing...
before it rains again.

Be sure to check out the Blooms and Foliage this month.

Happy Gardening...

February Foliage Follow-Up...

Hello...
Seems I've been neglecting this blog lately.

It's already the middle of February!

Time to join in with
Pam at Digging,
for
Foliage Follow-Up.

Gold Dust Acuba

It was warm and overcast yesterday.  I got out and did some trimming.
I should have taken my photos then.  It's 30 degrees colder today.

Japanese Aralia

We're due for some freezing weather the next few days.
It just can't make up it's mind.

Japanese Holly Fern

It's been an interesting winter.

Asparagus Fern

Even though we've had lows in the low 20s a couple times this winter,
there are things that haven't gotten frozen back like usual.

Ruellia brittoniana

The Ruellia, for instance.  Very strange.

Purple Heart

And, things already peeking their heads out.

Plumbago auriculata

Canna lily

That makes me nervous.  Too early could mean things bitten back, and not recovering.

Dusty Miller

Feverfew

Softleaf Yucca

Some things just never seem bothered.
Guess I should try to protect some things this week, though.

One good thing...we've had more rain this winter.

I took these photos of the creek a couple weeks ago.

It's not flowing as much now.  We could use some more rain.

But, it is flowing.  I love to hear that sound.

This water helps the wildlife.  The frogs are enjoying it.
They sing their songs for us to enjoy, as we sit on the porch....weather permitting.

So, that's what's happening in the garden here.
Be sure to visit Pam, for more February foliage.

Happy Gardening...

A Different Foliage Follow-Up....

Late...as usual.
But, thought I'd join
Pam at Digging,
for Foliage Follow-up.

Since I have the same old, same old....
chomped yucca, agaves, etc...
and, I know you're tired of hearing my
whining about the deer, the drought, my disappointment
with my garden,
I'll take you way north.

Last month, we were in
Glacier National Park,
in Montana.

It's a beautiful place anytime.
But, we were lucky enough to be there in Autumn.

Enjoy....

Happy Gardening...

Foliage Follow-Up, June 2014....

The day after Bloomday.....
time for Pam's Foliage Follow-Up.

I'll do the same as for Bloomday...
photos with few words.

 'Gold Dust' Acuba

 Yucca 'Color Guard'....thought this was a goner...deer & flood.
But, it's putting on pups.

Lots of figs this year.  We'll see if they make it to ripeness.

Yucca 'Color Guard' in New Front Bed.
 Grass Bed from back.
Purple Fountain Grass, Lemon Grass, African Iris...salvias & yarrow.

 Grass Bed from side.
Mexican Feather Grass, Gulf Muhly, prickly pear and Spanish Bayonet yucca, rosemary, etc.

 Grass Bed from front.
Agave Lophantha in front.

Sago Palm...this poor thing had a hard time this last winter.

Along side, in Fenced Yard.
Aralia, purple heart, lamb's ear, dianella, liriope, asparagus fern.
Filling in slowly.....

Yucca Rostrata in Island Bed in front.
This is really growing.  I hope I'm not sorry about where it sits.

Soft Leaf Yucca....thought this one wasn't going to make it back
from the Halloween Flood.  But, it's looking good.

One of my new succulent pots.

 The other one...

Fits into the 'Tropical Corner', on the porch.

So, that's it for this month.
We have more foliage here, than blooms.
But, we like it that way.

Go over to Pam's, and see more great foliage.

'Til later...

Wide Shot for Foliage Follow-Up...

I am way behind posting on here.

I'm late posting the
Wide Shot,
to share with Heather at

But, since most of this garden is foliage,
I'll combine the Wide Shot with
Foliage Follow-Up, with

This winter, has made a mess of some plants, like this Sago Palm.
There's still some green, so hoping it'll perk up with new growth.

The same for this Foxtail Fern, on the porch.
I've left the frozen parts, for protection.  But, I think it's about time
to get them outta there.

There are some places on this Golden Barrel, that look a bit bad.
But, it's still firm.  This poor thing was under water, for about six hours,
when we had the Halloween Flood.
Along with the cold, I'm surprised it looks this good.

Other things look almost un-touched by Winter.

This 'prickly pear' could be the wave of the future,
in Central Texas gardens.
The Rosemary and Mexican Feathergrass, have held up really well.

We replaced the Color Guard Yuccas that had either washed away,
or been messed with, by the deer.  Deer love to pull things up.
That's why we have old tomato cages over these.

I found a Sotol at Natural Gardener, on sale.
The girl said it just had 'cosmetic damage'.
Hope she was right.  There was only ONE good root, when
we planted this.  Then, it blew over, with our 40 mph wind, after this photo.
Now, it also has a tomato cage.

The pansies are doing really well.

And, the Rose Jasmine has been blooming.

We got a new bird bath, that we nestled in a Gold Dust Acuba.
I like the colors together.

And, another bird feeder.  It's been getting a lot of business.

These bags say 'mulch' on the back.
But, these are 2 cubic foot bags of garden soil.
We spread 20 of them...along with some bags of compost.
Whew!

I'm hoping that Spring will really arrive soon, and I can stop taking
these in and out of the garage.

And, finally...
guess who needs to go to the beauty parlor.
It's been too long.

That's what's going on here.
Be sure to visit Heather and Pam, for more good gardens.

And, oh...

Can anyone tell me what this is?
There are several coming up.  I'd say Texas Persimmon.  But, these have been green all winter.
Texas Persimmon doesn't stay green....the mature trees, anyway.
The acorn is to show the size of the leaf.

Hope you're having a good weekend.
