This and That on Thursday...

Again...it's been busy around here.
New projects and working outside.

We had a very nice Easter.
I hope you did, too.

More and more signs of Spring.
The Virginia Creeper, on the fence, seemed to leaf out, overnight.

The Cyclamen is still blooming....not much, but some.

A new Indian Hawthorn we planted recently, is blooming.
I thought it had been burned by the cold mornings.

There are even some blooms on the Ruby Chrystal grass by the Rio.
I thought this would be an annual here.  But, this is it's third year.

The things growing best, are these Cedar Elm seedlings.

Hundred....thousands...of these little seedlings.
I've dug them out of all the beds once....some beds twice.
And still, they keep coming.  I think it's from the strange fall bloom we had.

It's one of the frustrating things about gardening here.  You think you have a job done...
a project finished...and then you have to REdo it.

Lots of time, energy...and, MONEY...goes into it.  And, that delays other
projects you might want to get done.

But, we keep on keeping on.

We got the walkway put in, in the Front Bed.
I still need to get out and find a Bamboo Muhly for the back of the bed part.

But so far, it's made it easier to get to the faucet to turn on the soaker hoses.

We did get almost two inches of rain, the last three days.
That will help a lot.

The weather is still squirrely.....it was 86 on Tuesday
and, didn't get out of the low 50s yesterday.

We're still lugging plants in and out.

We had hundreds of American Goldfinches come through, the other day.
Mr. P. was able to get a pretty good shot of one.
Isn't he pretty?

***********
And, lastly....from the What the Heck Department....

I turned on my computer Monday, and the desktop...the screen thing...was all rearranged.
The wallpaper was a default Toshiba one.

And, ALL MY PHOTOS WERE GONE.

GONE!!!

Nobody seems to know why.
I'm not too happy, to say the least.

But, it's not complete devastation.

I blog.
In fact, I have THREE blogs.
All those photos are stored online, with Picasa Web Albums.
Plus, I have a couple other online album storage.

And, when we got the new laptop, we couldn't sync the new with the old.
I had to burn CDs to transfer photos.

Whew...that saved a lot.

And, I think I've learned my lesson...again...

BACK UP YOUR FILES!!

***********
So...that's what's been happening here.

We have more busy-ness coming up.
So, it might be another couple of weeks before I'm back here.

In the mean time...

Happy Gardening...

Yesterday was beautiful.
The temperature got up to 84 here at Patchwork Garden.

And, the sun, at the end of the day lately, has been beautiful, too.

It bathes everything in a golden glow.

Today was cloudy, but warm.  I have a lot to do outside.

But, I can't dig an new bed here.  It's too muddy.  And, more rain is forecast.
That's not a complaint, by the way.  We need the rain.
But, I'd like to get this project going soon....just in case it starts to get more than warm soon.

All that grass is going away.  We're going to put in some rocks and drought tolerant plants.
We want very little water needed here.

We have to get out and find some Primrose Jasmine, too.

To replace the ones the power company 'trimmed' last summer.  Should have done this already.

With the rain, a lot of great gardening weather is going to waste.  All the projects will still be there, though, when things dry out.

I picked up some Ball Moss and stuck it in a pot.  Makes a pretty little container 'plant'.
to perk up the porch.
I think this moss is interesting...and, we certainly have plenty.

So, are you getting that spring gardening bug, yet?

What's the Word?....

Sweet gift from neighbors at our old place

I've been seeing around the internet the idea of NOT making those lists of  'New Year's Resolutions',
but, usuing one word...maybe two or three...to sum up those resolutions.
One word that will make things happen.

It makes sense to me.  I can surely remember ONE WORD, more easily than a whole list.

So, my word of 2012 is
FOCUS.

I'm the kind of person who can easily get side tracked, no matter what I'm doing.
I have SO MANY projects around here that got started, but never finished.
Hey...just cleaning out a closet is sometimes hard for me to get all the way through.
I get sidetracked looking through old photos, or magazines, or....
you get the picture.

I almost made my word FINISH.
But, I've known me a long time.  I know if I'm going to FINISH something,
I'm going to have to
FOCUS.

I'm going to FOCUS, and get around to finishing the projects that are already started.
Like remodeling projects I started when we moved here,
THREE YEARS AGO!...
before I start something new.

I'm going to FOCUS on getting around to exercising more...
like walking in this great neighborhood of ours.

I'm going to FOCUS on getting around to...
well...looks like I have one of those lists, after all.

I'll just sum it up with saying..
I'm going to FOCUS on GETTING AROUND TO IT.

HEY!
I already have one of those!
Thanks, Rose.

So....what's the word?  What will you use to make your 2012 a good year?

FOCUS

Christmas Quilts...

Pieced Batiks

I mentioned a while back, that I was working on some quilts
for Christmas gifts.  Well, I got them finished...but, let me tell you...
I hope I never cut it that close again.  Five quilts, in ten weeks,
is not that much fun to do.

Pieced Novelty Cottons

They turned out pretty good.

Pieced fleece

Everyone seemed pleased.

Pieced Novelty Cotton and Fleece

Nice warm throws to cuddle in.

I'd really like to get back to a hand-made Christmas.  It seems more personal.

And, the smiles they evoked, made all the work worthwhile.

Stay Warm...
