For a change, I went back to a few miniatures from my vintage Hero Quest box from 1989 and painted over the figures, which were first painted over 30 years ago, with today's skills.

Lupus

Space Hulk: Time for some Upgrades
My first contact with wargaming was in the late 80s through SPACE HULK from GW. Almost 25 years later it's time not only to reminisce, but to give the vintage 1st edition a few upgrades.
For now, the plan is to replace the old plastic miniatures with new 3D printed designs. The cardboard airlock doors will also be replaced with modern 3D printed designs. In the long run, the old 2D floor parts will also be replaced with 3D prints (or perhaps 3D paper models). But let's see.
Genestealer and Space Marine proxy STLs are from Puppetswar Miniatures.

DL-44 Heavy Blaster Pistol
The DL-44 Heavy Blaster Pistol from BlasTech Industries, made famous by Han Solo, who used it to shoot Greedo in Mos Eisley on Tatooine, among others. The gun is known for being very easy to modify, for example, Solo removed the motion-sensitive scope during his smuggling career in order to draw faster.
The 1:1 scale blaster was my most extensive 3D printing project to date. The printing time for all the individual parts was over 25 hours (spread over many days), and I unfortunately had to reprint 2 parts because I was too dumb to put everything together correctly. An additional problem was that my printing plate is only 12.5 x 12.5cm, so I had to cut some larger parts by CAD first, to have to glue them together again after printing. The painting was then the relaxed part of the work. There are many different templates and even in the "original" the appearance of the blaster varies greatly from film to film, so you can let your imagination run wild here. I opted for a very worn appearance to do justice to the history of this iconic weapon. The whole thing was tremendous fun.

A modern Prometheus
"No man chooses evil because it is evil, he only mistakes it for happiness, the good he seeks." (Mary Shelley, Frankenstein, 1818)
With the creature and the bride, the little project is now complete. For the first time I made all the figures and props with the Resindrucker, only the base plate came from the good old filament printer. The 3D models are all available for free at MyMiniFactory. I still have great respect for the resin print, the stuff is unfortunately not harmless in the liquid state and you can not just print (as with filament), but must be meticulously observed any safety measures, so as not to irreversibly damage themselves and the environment in the long term. Once cured with UV light, resin loses its terror completely. The current resin printers make things much easier and fluffier to handle, but filament is just child's chocolate in comparison. However, one is rewarded for the effort with models that are hardly distinguishable from industrially produced figures and often enough would not even be available in stores because they are "too niche". The small Frankenstein project is then again the dusty corner of the niche in the niche of the niche.
The figures will certainly end up in a small one-shot scenario on the gaming table, but were primarily for me as a fan of the story of the "modern Prometheus" a matter of the heart. And if you haven't read Mary Shelley's novel yet, you should do so. It's worth it.
