I Thank My Lucky Stars...

Well, it's been awhile since I last blogged.  Sorry for the absence, but craft fair season is right around the corner, so I've been crafting, just haven't really had the energy to update my blog.  Although I'm in "mass production mode" (aka I have a lot of unfinished projects in the works), I thought I'd share an older project that I did for my friend Cami.. (Hi Cami!)

Cami's birthday was last month and because I only get to see her when I go visit Oahu, I had to plan ahead and get my project done for her birthday.  We had already agreed on the clipboard swap (see previous post) so I had to get that done too, but I still wanted to make something for my friend.  We decided to deviate from our usual dim sum and go to Tsukiji's for lunch.  It was good!  Now I know why it's Cami's favorite!

On to the project...  I had found this alarm clock from Ross awhile ago and had always meant to alter it.... Then I saw Sabrina's clocks, which inspired me to dig mine out of the closet and make one too!  My biggest challenge was the painting.  It was a really dark color- not sure if it was brown or black, but you get the idea.  It took several coats of gesso and paint to get it the color that I wanted.  I went with white since then I could accent it with any color flowers.  Here's how my clock came out...

I think I shared earlier that Cami loves Magnolia images, so I decided to use some of my new stamps on her clock.  These girls are growing on me! I think its cause they really match the whole shabby chick thing.

I found some of my little birds and added a pink one to the handle.  (oops, you can really see the glue there!)

I added this Tilda stamp on top of the clock.  It was fun to play around and add her to the outside of the project.  I stamped her with a brown ink before coloring and really like the results.   BTW- all flowers are by petaloo, Wild Orchid Crafts, and Prima.. oh and some from Downtown LA.

Here's a better look at the main image.  I think she's one of my favorites.  Do you also see that teapot stickpin?  Love it!

Sorry, this shot is a bit difficult to see.  I used a piece of silver mirrored cardstock and embossed the sentiment in white.  I like this new stamp set I got from Simon Says Stamp called W plus 9.   I thought the sentiments in the set were cute and matched this project.  I was kinda worried about the embossing on mirrored cardstock, but it seemed to come out ok.  Oh yah, that pearl star is from DIY boutique.  Love it!

A better look at that cute teapot stickpin!

Here's the side of the clock that is right behind the Tilda image. I think you can see that I actually ran some lace around the clock before adding all the flowers.

And here's the back of the clock where I wrote a message and added more flowers.

Cami really seemed to like it! I'm so happy!  It was pretty fun to make.  I have a few more frames that I should try out too.  Now I want to get more of those alarm clocks!

Forever In My Heart- Part Deux

The last couple trips home, my mom asked me to find the photo that was taken during my wedding of her and my stepdad.  I didn't realize she liked that picture so much!  She told me later it's because he was wearing a tux and never did before.

I was a little worried because when I first started looking for the photo, I looked in my hard drive and didn't find it.  I thought I only had a regular print and was worried I wouldn't find it.  Then I tackled my hallway closet and found it in one of the photo storage containers that had everyone's wedding pictures, including mine.  I was soooo happy to find it for her.

Then I went to make copies of it.  Decided to enlarge one so I could use it on a project for mom.  Then I remembered that Mom's birthday was coming up, so I decided to use it on a canvas.  Here's what I came up with.

The first thing I did was choose the paper.  Because our wedding colors were red, pink, and white, I decided to incorporate red into the project.  Plus mom is renovating her "woman cave" and has opted for a earthy rustic theme. She picked out dark colored wood, rattan type furniture, so I thought the red would match nicely in her new room once its done.

So the paper I chose is from Prima's Stationer's Desk collection.  Lately I've been into the whole shabby chic colors (pastels) but I think it was a good break to go with some bursts of red.  I fell in love with the paper that I chose and love that the opposite side is that dark red.  Its good that the opposite side coordinates well with the side I'm using.... for the reason below... If you curl the paper as I did and the opposite side doesn't match, it will likely ruin your project.

To make this little peek a boo window, you figure out where you want your photo. I then marked it on the paper and then cut an X from corner to corner.  Then curl back each end to reveal the photo.  Oops forgot to add that I sprayed the edges of the canvas with brown before I adhered down the photo and covered it with the DP.  After placing the photo down, I could then start decorating.

Not sure why but I had a hard time with this layout.  It took me several days to figure out how I wanted to do it, but I finally just started gluing and this is what I came up with.

Below is the top left hand corner of the project.  Not sure if you can see, but I layed down a piece of burlap, then a crochet doily, then all the flowers and burlap leaves.  The keyhole was also glued there but the key is at the bottom by the photo.  Oh yes, and peeking out from behind one of the large roses is some bling I got from Downtown LA.  Still having a hard time letting go of my stash, but I think canvases are the perfect project to do so with since it won't be discarded at the end of the day.  The "Love" branch is an embellishment by Prima that I got from one of their warehouse box sales (good find!)

Over the photo, I added some black Prima swirl bling and then glued on another bling from Downtown LA.

Here's the key I told you about.

I think the hardest part was finding the right sentiment for this project.  Not sure if you remember but a few posts back, I shared the mother's day canvas that I made for my mother in law. I used the same sentiment because I felt like this captured my mom's feelings for my stepdad.. he will always be forever in her heart.  Of course I had to add some hearts right?  (Hearts are my favorite!) So I decided to part with one of my heart blings I got at the last Rubber Stamp Expo.  Also shown here is the other part of that black bling and another bling piece from Downtown LA.

Hope my mom likes this present.  I made her a regular copy of the photo anyway because she wanted it for a special frame she bought.  Gonna surprise her with this when I see her.  Happy Birthday Mom!

Happy Birthday Haley!

One of my niece's is gonna have a birthday soon!  I'm really trying to be good and get my cards out on time.  Hope I'm not too late!

She loves animals- especially dogs!  Like Daba, my niece has a "Daba" called Woof Woof.  I think her name has changed to Lacey.  My brother (more like my SIL) was smart and got several Woof Woof dolls- just in case.  But believe me they know the difference between the "real" Woof Woof and the fake Woof Woofs.  Akemi could do that too.

So, everytime I see a puppy, I think of my niece. Hope she likes this card.  Oh, and she also likes the color blue, so that's why I tried to incorporate it into my project.

Here's a better look at Kiki...

And it's a pop up card!  Here's what it looks like when you open it up!

Hope Haley has a great birthday!  See you soon!

Happy Birthday Sara!

My niece's birthday is coming up soon and I am actually ahead of the game this time!  I made a quick card to go with her gifts and kept it pretty simple.

Used my new Doodlebug birthday papers as the background. Because the paper is pretty busy, I kept the card simple.  Colored up Minako in the same bright colors used on the dp and just added a banner with an Island Scrapbooking laser cut.

Yay!  Easy peasy card.  Here's a closer lok at Minako.

My Favorite Gorjuss Girl Card

So are you sick of these girls yet? Making these cards actually made me fall in love with them!  I had so much fun that I'm definitely gonna get the next set!

My last Gorjuss Girl card share is my favorite.  She is hugging a bunny, which reminds me of Akemi.  First I picked out what paper line I wanted to use and opted for the Princess Collection by Prima. This is one of my all time favorite paper collections by Prima.  After I picked it out, it help set the color scheme I was going to use.  I distressed the edges and layered it over a corrugated card base that I had previously gesso'ed.  Then I stamped my favorite birthday sentiment and layered it over a piece of lavender cardstock.

Here's a closer look at the Gorjuss Girl!

And another look at the flower cluster. I really wanted to use those pearl sprays I got from DTLA and some of my prima flowers in purple.

And more Prima goodness.

And here's the inside...

Hope you enjoyed this Gorjuss Girls card series!  Maybe I gotta go dig up my old Gorjuss Girls now!

Pig-Tailed Gorjusness

Did we make it to Friday yet?  If so.. TGIF! Back with another Gorjuss Girl birthday card for my stash.  I gotta say, I really liked how this one turned out.  I guess I'm liking red again, but wanted to keep it a bit shabby or should I say vintage-y...  Started with a white card base and added the DCWV corrugated background. Then I went through my stash and found a printed paper from one of my Prima stacks (I think), but I can't for the life of me remember which one.  Maybe you know?

So after I added some red cardstock, I decided to add some wheat colored cardstock for the sentiment. This would allow the red dress to stand out better.  I used my favorite birthday sentiment stamp, added some pearl bling, and then popped up the Gorjuss Girl using pop dots.

Here's a better look at this Gorjuss Girl.  I guess my iphone is not always good at focusing.

Across the bottom, I used some butterfly lace trim I got from Etsy and then layered some red roses over it.

I added a bow made of seam binding and then added a red rose to the middle for balance.

Here's a look at the inside of the card. Yes!  It's the Walter and Winnie stamp set again!

Ok one last stop on this Gorjuss Girl train.. see ya tomorrow!

More Gorjusness!

Phew!  We made it to Thursday!  Yay!  Only two more days of work till the weekend!

Did I even tell you why I made these cards?  Well, I've been bad about sending out my birthday cards this year.  I decided to mass produce some so that I can use a couple, plus have a few spares.  So proud of myself for thinking ahead, but disappointed that I'm so tardy on the ones I should've sent out earlier this year.

OK so now that that's out of the way, here's the next card I came up with.  Yesterday you saw I used a scrap from the Paper Studio paper stack... well it was a scrap from this card.  Again I started with the corrugated base from Recollections. I really shouldn't hoard it because I have a couple of boxes.  I can't help it.  Wish I could get these cards here in Hawaii!

Ok enough complaining... back to the card.  I just recently got that Tiffany Frame die from Memory Box recently and wanted to use it on one of my projects.  I like that you don't have to fit the image perfectly into the frame.  Make it so much easier and less stressful for me to not have to play by the rules.

I then basically just added a bunch of white flowers underneath this girl.  Oh yah, also added wheat sprays behind it.

Here's a closer look at this Gorjuss Girl.

And the wheat sprays...

And here's the inside of the card.  I like that I could still use the rest of the paper on the inside even though it had a large print on it.  See my favorite stamp set again?

Ok.. not done yet!  More to come!

Another Gorjuss Birthday!

Hi there!  Back with more Gorjusness to share.  I wish I busted these girlys out earlier!

This next image is actually the girl sitting on a clothesline with a pair of socks hanging on the line next to her.  I imagine she went out on the line to go get her teddy bear!  Anyway, I decided to cut her out instead and make her look like she's sitting on the fence.  Not sure I accomplished that, but that's what I was aiming for.

This card started with a white base that I layered some of my corrugated DCWV kraft paper on.  I guess I started getting a little hoardy and didn't want to use up all of my Recollections card bases! LOL!

Then I added some scrap pieces of cardstock. I think the blue ground is from the Kirby Teesdale paper pack by The Paper Studio at Hobby Lobby.  This stack is right up my alley- totally love the colors and images!

Then I layered some of my MS crafts grass border punch and the DooHickey's fence die (my favorite fence).  The background was made with the Lawn Fawn die set that contains a sun, clouds and drops.  I like that they have a stitched look and are a great size for backgrounds.

Then I paper pieced her dress using some gingham cardstock from my stash.  Below is a cluster of flowers I adhered over a DooHickey vine die cut.  All things I've been meaning to use and finally got around to!

And again we see my favorite Walter and Winnie stamp set!

Oki doki! Hopefully you are having a good week!  Be back with another card share tomorrow!

Happy Belated Birthday Debi!

Late as usual.. I did quite a bit of traveling last month, so we had a hard time meeting up to celebrate Debi's birthday this year.  But we were finally able to get together for lunch and had such a good time catching up!  I guess we were gabbing too much and forgot to take a pix.  Next time!

So I decided to keep with my resolution and use the stuff I have.  I bought the new Jumbo Tim Holtz tattered florals die and wondered when I would ever need a flower that big?!  So here's what I came up with...

Decided to replace the bow with a handmade flower.  That flower is huge!!!  But I like how it came out.  Cut about 6 of the largest flower and made a rose with it following Rosanna's tutorial.  Check it out- you can use smaller flowers too.  Love the results and how easy it is to make.  Thanks Rosanna!

Next I finally sat down to make a card.  Not sure why I always struggle with cards nowdays.  But I managed to crank one out before our lunch.  Started with Recollections corrugated cardboard base and distressed it using gesso.

Then I layered using the new Lawn Fawn paper and cut some green cardstock using my PTI die that makes making hills so much easier!

On the green hill, I used my new Walter and Winnie stamps.. I LOVE THEM!!!  Super happy with the results.  Also picked up a similar set by Stampin up that I hope to get to use soon.  Also used the new banner punch that I got from Stampin up and punched out several papers. Strung them on some pink twine I got from the dollar bin at Target (score!).  And the focal point of the card is the two bunnies from the new Mama Elephant set.  So cute!

Finally, I also made her a Happy Meal too.  Decided to keep it simple since the background paper was a little busy.  Stamped up another bunny from Mama Elephant's Up and Away set. I also wanted to try using some of my pocket scrapbooking cards in my other projects, so I pulled one from an American Crafts birthday set and added it to the Happy Meal.

Need to catch up on more birthdays!  Hopefully I will have more projects to share in the near future!

Epic Adventure Mini- Part 3

Phew!  We made it to the end of the birthday posts for Lfundoo's birthday presents.  I decided to make her a mini album to commemorate our epic adventure.  That trip was sooooo much fun that I just had to incorporate it into her gift.  I saw post an envelope mini using legal sized envelopes and I was very intrigued by it!  I've seen other envelope minis before, but I really liked the long look of this mini, so here's what I came up with... first up is the cover.  I couldn't resist titling it "Epic" like our adventure.  Used some of my scrabble tiles from my vault.  That lace is from my trip and so is that sheer flower and camera and plan resin pieces.  I really like that set and wish I bought one more of it.  The trim on top of the lace is hard to see, but it looks like mini acrylic leaves.  Got that trim from One Little Dreamer on Zibbet.

See the camera resin?  I also added a few of the say it in crystals from our Prima classes.  I hope I can get my hands on more of these soon!

Ok we finally made it to the inside- yay!  Here's what it looks like when you open it up.

The title page was fun to mix alphas, stamps, and pearl embellishments.

Page 2 is of our first day in Downtown LA and dinner with Ohaijoy.

Page three is of our 2nd day in Downtown LA and shopping at Tamaya and dinner with Fumi.

The middle section is all about Prima baby!

Panel 1 is of Limor's class.  I decided to do them in the order of our class schedule.

Next was Frank's class.

Then the Rock Star- Finnabair!

And then sweet Steph!

Turn the next page and it has more Prima and other fun stuff.

First page is Nathalie!

Then Jamie and Scrap Ninja- Sherry!

The next pages are all about shopping at the Prima Warehouse!

And Linda met up with the Scrapstress later that night.

Then our other favorite part of the trip... our meet and greet with Creative Young Mama and Scrapstress!  Too bad Ohaijoy couldn't make it, but we managed to facetime with Nadinetx!

Lucky Rina was taking photos of our day!  I had to use her photos cause I didn't take much.  Had too much fun I kept forgetting!

Hi Nadine!

And the back cover was our trip home...

What an epic adventure.  Still going through withdrawals!  Hope you had a great birthday Linda! Hope you enjoy the gifts!
