First Tri-Shutter Album

While looking for a tutorial on the Double Display Card (Thanks Brenda!), I stumbled upon several examples of a tri-shutter album. I really like mini albums since you can actually get them finished in a short amount of time. Decided to try out this technique using some new paper by Basic Grey. Ended up making it a sample for Island Scrapboooking by adding in photos of events over the past year that I've been helping out at the store. The photo at the top of this post is what the album looks like when its closed up. I added a belly band since it would hold it closed better. Since there are multiple folds that the band could get stuck on, I attached it using some velcro dots. Here's what the album looks like when its fully opened. I was able to add 3 vertical photos and 4 small horizontal photos. Here's the first panel... Made that flower using my new large scallop circle nestibilites and just cut slits where each scallop ends so that it looked more like a flower. Here's the middle section of the album. For the smaller panels, I decorated them with dew drops, punched flowers and the new MS flower patch border punch. The two blank panels were left blank so that we could add in "Island Scrapbooking". Needed Michele's help with that, so she's going to see if she can cut it for me. Used butterfly punches to accent photos since they can be placed anywhere and seemed to go with the floral theme. Here's the last panel...
I love this album and am going to make a few more as gifts... so can't post them just yet. I'll probably be teaching a class on them too if anyone is interested in Hilo.

Nutshells Challenge #6

Hi Everyone! Thank goodness its Wednesday! Do you know what that means? The week is half over- Yay!! The sooner this week is over the better.
Since its Wednesday, that means its time again for another Nutshells Challenge!! Challenge #6 to be exact. This week's challenge is to make a Christmas Card using any stamps that Nutshells carries. I chose a the Christmas digi stamps since they are perfect for a Christmas card.
I've been meaning to use this Cosmo Cricket paper and thought it would be a good background piece since I wanted to keep the angels in white/pastels. I decided to make a tri-shutter card since they are very easy to make AND I could dangle the angel on the cloud from the middle section.
Here's what the card looks like when its open.
Here's another view of the inside. I used the SU Sizzix deco strip with the sentiment Peace, Love, Joy & Cheer. I ran out of glitter paper, so I just cut it from white cardstock and used stickles to give it the bling it needed.
Its hard to tell from the photos but there is a little shadowing on the angel's clothing, but that's it... kept it very simple.. they are angels after all!
I hope you will join us for this challenge... check out the challenge blog here for more info.
Supplies:
Angel digis- Nutcrafters
DP- Cosmo Cricket
Cardstock- Bazzil
Stickles
Markers- Copics

Wild About You!

Here's another tri-shutter card that I made recently... I really wanted to suspend the birdie from the Greeting Farm Wild Things set, like I did with the bee and vampire from my previous cards. Since most of the animals were brown (I guess if used my imagination more I could've colored them other colors) I decided to color the bird red so that it would stand out a bit. This prompted me to make the words red and choose red dew drops to match the bird.
See the birdie flying?
Supplies used:
Wild Things stamps- TGF
Markers- Copics
Wild About You (Curlz alphabet dies)- Sizzix
Cardstock- Bazzil
DP- K and Co.
Dew Drops- The Robin's Nest
Hope you have a great week! I'm off today due to waiver day at Akemi's school. Geez, how many waiver days are there anyway?

Smell My Feet!

I think I'm overstimulated... can't decide which new stamps to play with first! After waiting for almost a month, I finally got my Stamping Bella stamps. I also got my Elzybells and new Greeting Farm Stamps all within 48 hours! So you already saw my Elzybells bear stamp... here's one of my new Greeting Farm stamps! I couldn't wait for Island Scrapbooking to get their shipment in of these cute little monsters. The only one not featured here is the mummy since I used him on another card.
To give you a little background info on this card... after my class on Saturday, Tracy and I were discussing what other stamps/dies would look cute hanging from the tri-shutter card. We identified several cool ideas- which I know I'll get to some day, but for now... this is the one I thought was the coolest! Isn't it so cool that Dracula is suspended in mid air?
At first I tried to use the sentiments that came with the set but after I stamped and mounted them on cardstock, it hit me that I NEEDED to use the Trick or Treat, Smell My Feet chant that kids still use till this day. Aaahhh, takes me back to those days in elementary school when Halloween was all about trick or treating. So I decided to print out the words from my computer and incorporate them into my card.
My daughter sure got a kick out of the words and started happily chanting them herself.
Supplies used:
Cardstock- Bazzil
Embossing folders- Cuttlebug
Spooktacular stamp set- The Greeting Farm
Markers- Copics

Busy As A Bee

Happy Friday! Wow- only 2 days of work this week and I'm already burnt out! Glad its Friday and I have the weekend to do more crafting- yay! Still need to prep my cards for Hospice- did half of one card but gotta finish cutting the kits; finally designed the 2nd card, but haven't even started on the kits for that one! Good thing the meeting isn't until 1:00 on Sunday- I'll have Saturday night and Sunday morning to finish. K.I... don't worry- I'll get it done on time! Wanted to do another tri-shutter card since I didn't get the first one quite right. Here's the end result... I just love this bee!! It's from one of the Hello Kitty deco strips from Sizzix. I've been meaning to use it, but just haven't had any inspiration until now. I thought he'd match perfectly with this new DP I found at Island Scrapbooking. I replicated the flowers on the paper by cutting out similar shaped flowers using my Spellbinder dies. Since I don't have any of those clever "bee" type phrase stamps, I printed my own on the computer. Thank you for "bee"ing a great friend! Special thanks to Michele, Tracy and Kelli at Island Scrapbooking, who helped me put this card togehter. For some reason I had a hard time with this one. Kelli- see? I decided you were right and I did end up adding the additional layer. Sigh, so much for saving on paper! I decided that being that she is a bee, she should fly right? So I added some fishing line to her and had her dangle from one of the folds. When you open it up, she moves around randomly like a busy bee. Tried to take a photo up close here so you could see that she's dangling and not attached directly to the card. Supplies used: Bee- Sizzix Sentiment- Printed from my computer Leaf die- Sizzix Flower dies- Spellbinders circles- Marvy Uchida punches cardstock- Bazzil DP- TPC Studio (paper is double sided and I used both sides) Glitter paper- Doodlebug Designs fishing line Well, hope everyone has a fun weekend. My mini vacation is over and my baby is going to Kindergarten today! (tear)

Copy Cat

Yes, I'm a copy cat. I like to borrow ideas and make them my own.... I think we all do that, right? Anyway, I just love learning from all you other bloggers out there... I recently saw a tri-shutter card and looked up the directions... found them at the Craftiblog click here...
Anyway, here's my version... had to use TGF stamps that I never used yet. These are part of the Wild Sprouts line of TGF. The sentiment is part of my Friends Hero Arts set. The Butterfly and roses are from Big Island Packaging (sorry, no company was listed). I like how the girl's head covers most of the words on the sentiment except for "friend".
Here's what it looks like when its open.
I also saw this card on Eunice's blog. She has such great ideas! You need the cricut, george cartridge and design studio in order to cut the flower from the cut file. This is my sample card- not that nice, but useful to look at the technique. Much easier than it looks!
Supplies:
Cricut- George Cartridge, design studio software
Stickles
Vine die- Sizzix
Cardstock- Bazzil.
