Storm Update!

We didn't have any major damage here in North Central Florida. There are some trees down here and there but not anything like they've had on the coast.

It was a stressful week with all the preparations and waiting on the unknown and then two days of rain and wind.

Blue Jay

We moved some of the furniture out of our lanai to be ready. It has windows but they are not glass, they are acrylic and there are windows on three sides of the room. We walk into this room through French doors from the kitchen. It's not technically a lanai, it's a Florida room but we called it the lanai when we moved here and the name stuck.

Anyway, we spent the day yesterday cleaning and getting things back in order. At least we have lots of good food cooked that will last us a few more days. We have a generator so we could have heated meals so we wanted things precooked. We made a roast in the crock pot and a big pot of spaghetti sauce, broccoli cheese soup, boiled some eggs and baked muffins and biscuits.

Great Blue Heron

I'm anxious to get back on the Florida trails but I'll wait a couple of days. I'm sure the roads are busy with people getting out. Our stores were closed for 2 days so there will be those needing groceries.

Gulf Fritillary

We are praying for our fellow Floridians that are suffering from the damage from Hurricane Ian. I've talked to some of them but I'm waiting to hear from others. There was damage to both coasts so it is widespread!

I hope you have a beautiful weekend. The weather is gorgeous here now.

These aren't my dogs but they sure are cute!

And they are probably wanting to take some walks too!

Photos from the Florida Trails taken last week.

I appreciate your prayers!  Sweet hugs, Diane

Go for the GOLD!

We don't usually go on a hike with a purpose in mind.

We just get out on the trails to enjoy nature and stretch our legs!

But sometimes we get home with our photos and see a theme.

We saw SO many wildflowers in bloom this week.

I decided to start an identification folder on my desktop to put ID flower pics.

Since I forget what they are from year to year, this might come in handy next year! lol

There are lots of yellows colors and lavenders at this time of year.

So what was GOLD?

Oh, that's my new Mac!

I changed the throw on the back of the sofa in the lanai too to declare Fall in Florida!

It's great and I love it. Thanks hubby for the surprise gift!

Have you seen any pretty colors in your neck of the woods this week?

Fuzzy Chicks and Red Roses

Our roses are blooming like crazy!

And fuzzy chicks are trying to make things more fun in the lanai.

It's hard to imagine 'fun' right now because I've managed to make myself really sick with the stress and strain. I have some kind of terrible cold, headache, nausea...the works.

So our house is quiet and the curtains are pulled and we are taking turns napping.

Thank you all for your prayers. I'm sure we'll see sunnier...and funnier days soon!

A Fun Day planned!

It was a good start to the day when hubby saw an eagle soar overhead when he was at the Post Office! That’s always exciting! And I plan to do a little baking this afternoon for my sweet hubby!

'Prims' for Wednesday Wee Ones

I love Prims! And how excited I was to find a new Etsy shop with all the things I love best!

Bet's Dolls has Raggedy Anns, Prairie dolls, bunnies...and MORE!

She does wonderful work and her prices are very reasonable.

The dolls and elephant are from her shop.

The bear is not but the tiny Raggedy Ann is the first thing I bought.

Don't you love to find a shop you can afford?

And don't you need one more bunny? (I always think I DO!!!)

Beautiful Mosaic

I love spending time in our lanai in the winter months.

And it's nice to have so many of my favorite things close by to enjoy.

My new little fairy (a gift from my sister) is on the coffee table in front of me, along with favorite things I've collected over the years. The pretty Abalone shell was a gift from Betsy at My Salvaged Treasures.

And this week I found this precious set of Lefton lambs at the thrift store, so I put them on the table at the end of the sofa. (that's where I'm sitting as I write, with my net book in my lap...on the sofa, not the end table)

It doesn't cost a lot to surround ourselves with beautiful things, whether it's a thrift find, a gift or something you've made. And what a difference it can make in our moods.

Summer Time Reading

Here in Florida we have nice weather during the winter months. When it gets HOT in the summer, we have to plan more activities inside. I love to read and we have a beautiful pool that we can walk to with a bottle of cold water and a book (and a hat and sunglasses!). Or I can sit in the lanai in the air conditioning, under the fan!

My blog buddy Terra shared her 10 favorite authors of all time in a post HERE. I’d love to do this soon.

Stacey at Poofing the Pillows has So Many Great Books HERE

And Farm Girl Sam showed off some of the books she’s been reading HERE. She has other posts with books this week too.

I mentioned that I went to the library and came home with a stack of books.
These are the big oversized paperbacks and they were for sale in the lobby of the library. Paper backs are 50 cents and hardbacks are $1, so you can’t go wrong. (it’s a great place to donate books, too)

(in order of popularity from top to bottom)

I did something fun this time. I looked each book up on Goodreads to see what each one was rated. I wrote it down on little slips of paper and then put them in order. It might help me decide which one to start with.
Like Dandelion Dust was rated the highest at 4.20.

Right now I’m reading Mademoiselle Chanel by C. W. Gortner, all about the life of Coco Chanel. I’m finding it very entertaining.

(I checked these two books out at the library)

What are you reading this week?

Keeping me Company in the Lanai

I’m still having to take it easy and rest.

If you missed it, my ‘pitiful pearl’ post was HERE.

I think I’m going through the ‘feeling sorry for myself’ phase of healing.

But look who’s in the lanai with me.

Meet Trixie!

IMG_4759

I got this sweet doll from my friend, Maxie a couple of weeks ago. Her Etsy shop Prims and Annies is HERE.

And isn’t she smart?

She can already read.

IMG_4790

(she prefers vintage Winnie the Pooh books)

And we both have played Gummy drop a ‘few times’ this week.

IMG_5063

How can you feel bad when you look at this big smile.

I’ll have to wait to smile that big though.

My face needs to heal some more.

Lanai Livin’ “Mosaic Monday”

When we moved to Florida 10 years ago, we called this room the lanai. It’s not a ‘true lanai’ because it’s heated and cooled just like the rest of the house. It would more properly be called a Florida room.

It’s where we spend most of our time.

best2mosaictext

And I always keep ‘pretties’ on this baker’s rack.

I haven’t really pulled out Spring décor so it’s in a transition phase.

IMG_2450

Don’t you love these little quilts that I used for the bottom shelf?

Have you decorated for Spring?
