vests knit with reclaimed wool April 2015 I'm still working on finishing projects and using yarn from my stash. An earlier post gives the specifics of these vests that are going in the donation box.

On and Off My Needles

Steppe Vest reclaimed wool yarn March 2015 The yarn for this vest was reclaimed several years ago from a thrift shop sweater, and I have enough yarn remaining to knit another vest. Pattern: •   Original Steppe Sweater  (vest directions at the bottom of the pattern) - this link gives specific sizes and stitch counts • Steppe Ahead Sweater (vest directions at the bottom of the pattern) - this link is for the revised pattern, written with percentages rather than specific stitch counts Size : Large (cast on 100 stitches) Yarn : Reclaimed from thrift shop sweater  (70% wool 30% acrylic), knit double stranded - the finished vest weighs 6.9 ounces Needles : Knit Picks interchangeable (size 10.5 for ribbing, size 11 for body) Steppe Vest - off the needles 6.9 ounces of yarn used Size: Large Have you ever reclaimed yarn from a previous garment?

Tying Up Loose Ends

two wool vests - child's small women's size 8 socks  At the end of the year, I like to finish some projects that have been in the works for a while. Last week, I finished the second wool vest for a charity. Previous post with pattern and yarn information can be seen here . women's size 9 socks I'm still trying to reduce my sock yarn stash, but not making much progress. This pair was knit with Wisdom Yarns (Los Angeles #241). Socks in the first photo were knit from a scarf blank - it was a gift, so I don't know the specifics.

Child's Sweater Vest

Image
Steppe Sweater Vest One of the projects on my needles is a child's sweater vest. I nabbed the four skeins of wool several years from a Hobby Lobby clearance bin. When I discovered the yarn in my sewing room this summer, I knew it was time for the yarn to become a child's vest. Pattern : The Steppe Sweater  (free pattern) Yarn : I Love This Wool (#125 Deep Purple) 93% wool - 7% polyamide            knit with double strands to simulate chunky weight yarn Needles : US size 10.5 - ribbing                US size 11 - body of vest Stitches : 76 stitches, child's small vest This yarn definitely lives up to its name because it has a nice feel and knits well. I will purchase it again. Note to self : a child's vest, size Small requires 6.1 ounces of double-stranded yarn.

Spring Violets Vest

Image
Spring Violets Vest April 16, 2013 Oops, I didn't check to see if the vest was situated correctly before having a friend snap the photo. The vest looks good with denim and slacks and could even be worn with a skirt or dress. I love it! The vest drapes really well. I know that I am going to enjoy wearing it.

Blocking Spring Violets Vest

Image
Spring Violets vest started January 16, 2013  Spring Violets is truly off the needles. The picot edging needs tacked, and the sides seamed before it can be considered completely finished. The colorful, foam mats were purchased at Kmart several years ago for the fraction of the price of those sold by Knit Picks and other online stores; plus, the mats are large, 24-inch squares compared to the 12-inch ones sold specifically for blocking.  I use my quilting pins to hold the project in place. A photo of the finished vest will be posted soon.

Spring Violets Update

Image
One more edge to knit before this project is officially off the needles and can be blocked. The bottom edges are knit with the soft twist rayon, shown above. After blocking the vest, I'll stitch the picot edging at the bottom and the side seams.

Knitting Spring Violets

Image
Spring Violet Vest started January 16, 2013 I first saw the pattern for the Spring Violet Vest in the vendor's area at the Reno show . I don't know how many times I went back to the booth, drawn by the samples on display. The booth had many varieties of the vest on display and kits available, but the pattern was not sold individually. When I returned home, I contacted the company to see if the pattern was available and again was told it was not sold separately, only as a kit. My friend Cheryl must have grown weary of me talking about the vest. Before Christmas she presented me with a wrapped box and said, "This is NOT a Christmas present." I was shocked and pleased when I opened the box to find the vest kit. The vest is knit on size 6 needles, using three different weights and types of yarn: a superwash wool, a soft twist rayon, and a rayon loop. Specifics about the vest can be found on my Ravelry project page . The photo on the kit, and on the pattern...

Fifth Finish

Image
Monday night I finished a fifth vest of the afghans for Afghans youth campaign. This one is smaller than the other four vests because I thought I would not have enough yarn for the larger size.

Vest #4

Image
The last bit of the green lambswool was used for this sweater vest and hat for afghans for Afghans . Now, I am trying to use all of the rust wool for another vest, my last for the Youth Campaign.

Sending My Love

Image
Three youth vests and a pair of mittens are on their way to the afghans for Afghans Collection Center in San Francisco. My original goal was one or two vests, but I had more time to knit than I first thought. The mittens were knit in December. Hopefully, I can finish at least one more vest before the March deadline.

a4A Vest #2

Image
I'm finished with another vest for the afghans for Afghans Youth Campaign. I'm definitely getting better at corralling the yarn bits and resting needles: this time I'm using a safety pin through the adjustment hole in my Knit Picks interchangeable needles to keep them from flopping around. The vest was finished last night. I am going to make one more vest for this campaign.

a4A Youth Campaign Vest

Image
This wool vest is for the afghans for Afghans youth campaign . I hope to make at least two more of the vests before the March deadline. The vest option is at the end of the  Steppe Sweater  pattern. I knit the vest on size 10 needles, using two strands of worsted weight wool.

Presto Change-o

Image
I intended to make another sweater for the afghans for Afghans youth campaign, but I didn't think I would have enough time to finish it. When I saw Reed's finished projects , I decided to make a vest instead of a sweater.
