Spooky Halloween with Cats & Bats

The new Cats & Bats product line is super cute.

I am loving this colour combo!

I cut the shape of the spooky haunted house with my CTMH Artbooking Cricut cartridge.

By the way, did you hear the news???  Provo Craft has discontinued making their physical cartridges and are switching over to only digital.  So if there are any cartridges that you were wanting to get, you will need to get them now, before they are sold out.  If you have already made the switch to digital, then no worries.  ;)

Happy creating!  :)

Purr-fect Halloween - August Stamp of the Month - Adorable Sample Cards!

Okay, so I am back with some adorable samples of cards using the August Stamp of the Month set, Purr-fect Halloween!

I can't take credit on these, as they are designs from fellow CTMH Consultants, but it made it super quick for me to make cards to share here with you.

These first two are more traditional Halloween themed cards.

 (Jen Rubio and Karen Pedersen's designs.)

And these next two are using the stamps in this set in a non-Halloween theme!

(Maz Wood and Jen Rubio's designs.)

Oh my, don't you just love them???

Here's a better look at them individually...

 (Jen Rubio's design.)

Aren't they super cute?!

Keep in mind that this set is only available during the month of August.  $6 with a minimum $50 order, or for full retail at $21.25 without a qualifying order.

Non-Traditional Halloween Layout

This year Cole dressed up as Elwood Blues, from The Blues Brothers movie.

He is involved in Leadership at school, and therefore was involved with the school dance.

I was able to get a few photos of him during clean-up after the dance.

Looked like all the kids had fun.

I used a new CTMH paper packet called Wanderful, which is actually travel themed.

But in my usual style, I used it for something completely different.

Happy creating!  :)

Chalk It Up... a Sweet Cherry Inkers' Team Challenge!

Before I share my cards with you today, I just want to take a moment to thank you for the kind words on my previous post.  Brought tears to my eyes.  ;)

~~~~~~~
As a Close To My Heart Consultant, I am part of a team and our group has a private Facebook page.
Angela Fehr, one of our team members from Sweet Cherry Inkers, began a new monthly challenge for the members of our group.
This month, the theme is Chalk It Up, where she asks us to create anything we want that is inspired by chalk art.  (We can earn extra points by using Chalk It Up papers and the September stamp of the month - which I don't have yet.)
So this is what I created, taking the chalk art idea even further...
It may not be very noticeable in the picture, but the little pumpkin is opaque in the above card.  I achieved that effect by using my blender pen and painting White Daisy pigment ink onto the pumpkin.  It gives it a ghosting type of look.
After the images were stamped with White Daisy pigment ink, I sprinkled clear embossing powder over top and heat set them.  Then I took a sponge and lightly rubbed White Daisy pigment ink randomly over top (for both cards) to give them both the look of a used chalkboard.
Super cute, hey?
Happy creating!  :)
Supplies used (all CTMH unless otherwise noted):
Happy Halloween card:
Paper:  Chalk It Up; Black, White Daisy CS
Stamps:  What A Hoot! - Aug SOTM, Stitch Wonder, Card Word Puzzle - retired, Save the Date - retired
Inks:  Black, White Daisy pigment
Embellishment:  Chalk It Up Assortment
Other:  Micro-tip scissors, Blender pen, 3D foam tape, Clear detail embossing powder, Corner Chomper (WRMK), Sponge
Life Is Wonderful card:
Paper:  Chalk It Up; Black, White Daisy CS
Stamps:  Life Is Wonderful - upcoming July SOTM, Stitch Wonder
Inks:  Black, White Daisy pigment
Embellishment:  Chalk It Up Assortment
Other:  Micro-tip scissors, 3D foam tape, Clear detail embossing powder, Sponge
Pumpkins
I love the What A Hoot! August stamp of the month set.
Here's the little pumpkin from that set.
For the base, I inked up my Damask embossing folder with Black ink and placed a piece of Whisper cardstock onto it, then ran it through my new Big Shot.
{ Did I tell you all that I won big at a stamping event when I was visiting my sister in Calgary in July?  She signed us up to attend Allison Okamitsu's Bingo night event at her home - luv Allison by the way!, and I won the biggest prize at the end of the night that included the new SU In-Color cardstock and markers and all of the Hostess Rewards stamp sets AND also included the money collected from everyone who bought additional bingo cards at $5 each, so I also won $145 in cash to put towards Stampin' Up! product from their new catalog.  I quickly ordered a new Big Shot -- as I had sold the one I had won from the Stampin Royalty blog years ago, and had regretted selling it ever since!  I left Allison's in shock that night... ;)  }
I stamped the pumpkins in Versamark and Black ink onto White Daisy cardstock, and heat embossed Clear Detail embossing powder over top.
I pulled out my old markers to color the pumpkins, but they seemed so bare even though they were cute on their own, but I thought I'd water-paint the sky with my waterbrush and inks and color the ground with my markers.  I also added a little shading around the pumpkins on the ground with my old markers.
Love how it turned out.  ♥
Happy creating!  :)
Supplies used (all CTMH):
Paper:  Whisper, White Daisy, Black, Goldrush
Stamps:  What A Hoot! - Aug SOTM, Holiday Tags
Inks:  Black, Versamark, Gypsy, Thistle
Markers - old style:  Sunset, Whisper, Slate
Embellishment:  Purple Shimmer Trim
Other:  Waterbrush, Clear Detail embossing powder, Damask embossing folder
Happy Halloween... signs made from leftover hardwood
Okay, so this is a little late for Halloween, but I want to show you a sign I made using a left over plank from our unfinished maple hardwood flooring we bought for our home.
For my project, I was completely inspired by Lisa Johnson's fabulous Halloween card
that you can see in this post.
Backside of sign/floor board.
It is currently sitting in my kitchen window facing towards the outside, but I do plan to add some picture hanging hardware to the back of it.
I first made the Halloween sign on Colonial White cardstock by cutting out the alphas from Moonlight B&T on my Cricut, and using a pumpkin stamp for the 'O'.
I stamped the spider web and the spiders with Black pigment ink, and used Clear Detail embossing powder to set the ink.  I did the same to the word 'Happy'.
I had my hubby cut the board down to 7" x 14", then I lightly sanded it, and then sponged Black acrylic paint around the 4 sides and on the outer edges of the front side.
I used to tole paint years ago, so I have tons of colours of acrylic paint left over from those days.
After the paint dried, I painted a thin layer of Mod Podge over the back of my cardstock piece and carefully centered it to the front of the board, trying to get it to lay as flat as possible, and let it dry before applying two more coats of Mod Podge over top of it all.
It did buckle a little here and there, but not too badly.  ;)
~~~~~~~

Oh, and speaking of making signs out of floor boards/planks...
here's one I made back in August.

This one is hanging above my kitchen window and sink.

The brown vinyl letters are from a SU freebie earlier this year.

I simply painted a couple of coats of creamy white paint over the board, let it dry and gave it a good sanding, taking it down to the bare wood on the outer edges.

Then I simply applied the vinyl letters.

Easy, peasy.

I love how it turned out.

Happy creating!  :)

Supplies used for the cardstock portion of the Halloween sign (all CTMH unless otherwise noted):
Paper:  Moonlight B&T; Colonial White CS
Stamps:  Spooky Smiles - retired, Happy Everything (SU)
Inks:  Black pigment, Black, Sunset, Sweet Leaf; Black journal pen
Other:  Cricut Artiste cartridge, Clear Detail embossing powder, Micro-tip scissors

Paper Trail Blog Hop for September... Moonlight

Welcome to the Paper Trail Blog Hop for September!

You should have arrived from Mary's blog, but this is a circular hop, so it doesn't matter where you begin.

This month we are featuring the Moonlight paper packet.

For this month's hop, I created a little treat pocket to share with you.

It would be perfect to hold some old fashioned candy sticks, but since I didn't have any, I put a couple of new Smokey Plum alcohol markers into the pocket.

Now that's my kind of treat!  lol

To make my treat pocket, I cut a piece of Moonlight B&T paper measuring 2 1/2" x 12", and scored it at 5", then sealed the sides with 1/8" ScorTape.

I used a Martha Stewart Drippy Goo punch for the decorative edge at the top of the opening.
Perfect for a Halloween treat!

The sentiment is from a new stamp set called Magic Potions, full of lots of great labels.

The other new items I used are some Black Tulle ribbon, and some Black Striped Grosgrain ribbon.

~~~~~~~
I've been a busy girl getting ready to attend my first upcoming Close To My Heart event -Regionals, which will be held in Edmonton, AB, in September.
I was honoured to be asked about being a presenter, but with my shyness in talking in front of large groups of people, I decided it was best to turn it down.
Still so very exciting to have been asked.  :)
I was also asked to create a project for the Auction they hold at Regionals.
Now that I could do!
Close To My Heart donates to Operation Smile, so I'm hoping my project brings in enough money to pay for a surgery for someone.
How wonderful would that be???
I will be able to share my project with you after I get back from Regionals.
~~~~~~~

This is what the papers in the Moonlight paper packet look like:

And with it being a new month, that means there is a new Stamp of the Month - Fall Favorites.

~~~~~~~
Anyways, it's now time for you to hop along and see what Connie has created.
Happy creating!  :)
Halloween card
I created this card back in February/March and had submitted it along with the treat holder that got published in the current issue of Paper Crafts.
This one didn't make the cut, but I LOVE this card even so!  ♥
I used the now retired Mischief B&T papers, and "Halloween" is from the retired Wicked stamp set.
I used the Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge to cut the circle and the decorative circle cardstock pieces, as well as the numbers (if I remember correctly).
The bats are from a Martha Stewart punch, and the edge along the right side was done with a die from MFT.
I used the same technique for the flying bats on this card that I used on my treat holder from  yesterday's post.  I simply cut strips from a transparency sheet at different lengths and attached the bats to the ends to have them appear to be flying.
Happy creating!  :)
Stamp:  Wicked - retired
Ink:  Black
Halloween Treat Holder... a Paper Crafts publication!
Hey, I'm back with my second publication that I promised to show you when it was released.
I created this Halloween Treat Holder back in sometime around March.
You can find it on page 52 in this issue of Paper Crafts, available now.
Paper Crafts is my fave papercrafting magazine!
I'm super excited to be published with them again.
Happy creating!  :)
Trick-or-Treat
My cute pumpkin card was inspired by this one created by Rachel Sztonyk.
I stamped the polka dots onto Colonial White cardstock using Versamark ink, then embossed with Clear Detail embossing powder.
Then I sponged Black ink over top of the polka dots until I had good coverage, and then took a piece of paper towel and wiped the ink off of the embossed dots.
After I created my card, I remembered a retired paper pack that CTMH used to sell, called Silhouette, that had B&T in the pack that looked just like this.  Woulda saved me a step or two if I'd remembered,
'cause I'm sure I still have a fair amount left over... lol
Happy creating!  :)
Supplies used (all CTMH):
Paper:  Sunset, Colonial White CS
Stamps:  Spooky Smiles - retired, Beware - retired, Argyle Backgrounds - retired
Inks:  Black, Sunset, Versamark
Embellishments:  Orange gingham - retired, Black button, Colonial White waxy flax
Other items:  Clear Detail embossing powder, ScorTape (ScorPal), Sponge
Embossed & Dry Embossed Halloween Card
Are you looking at the background paper and wondering, "how'd she do that"?
I watched a how-to on Mel Stamps' blog you can take a look at here.
She's soooo creative!
I've seen the same process done by others lately, too.
I'll walk ya through the how-to process.  ;)
  • first you dry emboss your B&T paper or Cardstock ( I ran my B&T through the Cuttlebug with an embossing folder)
  • then you ink up your brayer with Versamark ink and run it over the raised parts of your dry embossed piece
  • next you sprinkle clear embossing powder over it, tap off the excess, and then heat set the embossing powder
  • take a sponge and ink (I used Black ink), and rub the ink into the paper, and then take a kleenex or paper towel and lightly rub off the ink that doesn't stick to the clear embossed areas
I hope you enjoyed my card.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you in Canada!
And happy creating!  :)
This is my winning project #3 for the Make It From Your Heart contest.
Mischief Test Tube Holder
Aren't these test tubes the cutest?  Like many of you, I'm signed up to get Beate John's posts via email and the instructions link was included in her post today, as well as her fab project.
Here's the link to find the instructions on the Splitcoaststampers website for the test tube holders.
Because I used a test tube from Taylor Expressions (as Beate did), I used Beate's dimensions starting with a 4"x12" piece of cardstock (instead of 4"x11" as in the Splitcoast directions).
And I came across a couple of scoring issues.  This is my adjusted scoring measurements:
Score long side at 1/2", 1 3/4", 4 1/2", 5 3/4"
Turn and score short side at 1 1/4", 2 3/4"
Then turn it back to long side and score from the 8 1/2" mark..... the rest is perfect.
I also, like Beate, found that the 3/4" circle punch is too small for an opening, and the 1" circle punch was too big.  But I had to work with the 1" cricle punch, because that's what I had on hand.  ;)
I cut little strips from a transparency sheet to attach my "flying" bats onto the top of the holder.
They're sure cute!
The B&Ts are from a new paper pack called Mischief.  It has a couple of sheets in there that are full of fantastic labels.  I cut out one of those labels and used it on the front of my test tube.
My project is done, but I now need to find the perfect treat to fill it with.
Happy creating!  :)
Supplies used (all CTMH unless otherwise noted):
Paper:  Mischief B&Ts; Pear, Colonial White, Black, Barn Red CS
Stamp:  Beware (retired)
Inks:  Black, Barn Red, Chocolate
Embellishments:  Dk. Chocolate striped grosgrain, Pewter designer brad, Black waxy flax
Punches:  Bat (Martha Stewart),  1", 1 3/8", and 1 1/2" circle (EK Success), 1/8" hole punch (Fiskars)
Other:  Test Tube (Taylored Expressions), Transparency (Staples), Uniball White gel pen (SU), Sponge, 3D foam tape
Paper Trail Blog Hop - Anything Goes!
Welcome to the Paper Trial Blog Hop
You should have arrived from Karen's blog, but this is a circular hop so it doesn't really matter where you begin.  ;)
Each month the Paper Trail Blog Hop features a specific Close To My Heart paper pack, but with a new Idea Book starting August 1st and 8 whole new paper packs to choose from, the powers that be have decided that this month the theme is "anything goes"!  So we are allowed to choose whichever paper pack we want to work with.
I decided to work with the Mischief paper pack because it works perfectly with Wicked, the August Stamp of the Month.
(Unfortunately at the time of my getting ready for the hop, my order of new product had not yet arrived so I had to use cardstock in the same colors that are in the Mischief paper pack.)
Now the obvious use for Mischief is Halloween themed projects, but if you take a close look at the papers in this pack you'll see that you could easily use most of them for any antique themed purposes, too.  Very cool.
So some quick notes about my card...
  • I stamped the "honeycomb" image onto Desert Sand cardstock with Desert Sand ink
  • I used my Cricut to cut the black triangular shapes
  • I created my paper yo-yo with a 1 1/4" x 12" strip of Grey Wool cardstock, scored at every 1/4"
  • I stamped the sentiment onto my paper yo-yo with black ink to give the cardstock some pattern
  • I clear embossed my main image and sentiment
  • I sponged Black ink onto the outer edges of each piece of cardstock before assembly
I hope you enjoyed my card.  Please continue along the Paper Trial Blog Hop to see what Betsy has created.
If by chance you get lost along the way, here's the list of Paper Trail Blog Hoppers:
Vicki (you are here)
Happy creating! :)
Halloween Class Treats
Okay, so admittedly I was running out of time and needed an even faster class treat for Cole to hand out to his schoolmates.  I saw some treat bags made by fellow Consultant Julie Carriere and just had to CASE them.  So I can't take any credit for these, it's all Julie's idea.  ;)
I love the eyeballs created with punches!  Super cute.  Thanks for the inspiration, Julie!
Happy creating!  :)
Supplies used (all CTMH unless otherwise noted):
Paper:  White Daisy, Black, Clover Meadow (retired), Orange (retired), Hydrangea (retired)
Stamps:  Witch's Brew (retired), Halloween Backgrounds (SU-retired)
Ink:  Black
Punches:  1 1/4" circle, 3/4" circle (EK), 1/2" circle (SU), Small oval (SU)
Other items:  Uniball White gel pen (SU), Stapler (other), Spider Web treat bags (WalMart)
Wait just a minute... I had an idea! (more Halloween Class Treats)
Okay, so I just had to use the eyeball gumballs as eyeballs!  I simply turned one of the card bases I was making and turned it into Frankie's face, using a few different punches from my previous post.
What do you think?  I like them both, but I think I'll wait until Cole gets home from school and ask him which one he wants to use.
Happy creating!  :)
Supplies used (all CTMH unless otherwise noted):
Paper:  Black, Clover Meadow, Grey Wool CS
Punches:  1/2" circle (EK), Grass edge (Martha Stewart), Ornament (SU), 2 step Bird (SU)
Other items:  Black Journal pen, Uniball White Gel pen (SU), Gumballs (Life Brand - Shopper's Drug Mart), ScorTape (ScorPal)
Boo Class Treats
While Cole was at his guitar lesson last night, I spent my 1/2 hour browsing the Halloween aisles at the nearby Shopper's Drug Mart and came across a bag of eyeball gumballs.  (110 gumballs for $6.99)  I thought to myself that I could make something cute and quick with these for Cole to give to his classmates for Halloween.
This morning I made this as a flat, postcard style card, where Cole can easily write who they are from in a white gel pen on the backside before we attach the eyeballs on all of them.
I used my Cricut (George & Basic Shapes) to cut the 'B', a Martha Stewart punch for the bats with a white gel pen to add dots for their eyes, the Drippy Goo Martha Stewart edge punch, and a sentiment stamp.  To attach the gumballs, I used pieces of ScorTape.  The thing I like about ScorTape is that you can tear off the length of tape you need with your fingers.
 The card base is:
  • Black CS 3 1/2" x 5"
  • Clover Meadow CS 3 1/4" x 4 3/4"
  • Hydrangea CS 1" x 5" (cut to size first, then edge punched)
Easy, peasy... just the way I like it.  Besides, let's face it, the kids will just rip the eyeballs off and toss the cards anyways.  LOL
Happy creating!  :)
Humble Artists Swap card for August
It's now time to share my swap cards!
These are my swap cards I made this past July for the Humble Artists Swap which were for the August swap.
It was my turn to set the guidelines and these were what we all had to follow:
  • 3 1/2" x 8" sized card
  • Use a card design from Wishes or Originals
  • Use one of your favourite colour combos from Jeanette Lynton's blog
  • Use a circle and a square or rectangle somewhere on your card
  • Use ribbon
  • Use 2 other embellishments
  • Have a minimum of 7 layers
I used a 50/50 mix of Prisma Glitter and Clear Detail embossing powder on the main bat stamped image, to give it a little glittery goodness.  I don't think my camera picked up the glitter very much in the photo.
I thought they turned out pretty cute, although I never really seem to give Halloween cards!
But they were fun to make, nonetheless.  ;)
Happy creating!  :)
Supplies used (all CTMH unless otherwise noted):
Layout:  Originals - Puzzle Backdrop
Paper:  White Daisy, Black, Clover Meadow, Twilight, Grey Flannel, Sunflower CS; Splendor B&T
Stamps:  Beware, Believe in Your Dreams
Inks:  Black, VersaMark
Embellishments:  Black stitched grosgrain, Pewter hinge, Pewter photo hanger, Pewter brads
Punches:  1 1/4" circle (CTMH), 1 1/2", 1 3/4", 2 1/2" circles (EK)
Other items:  Prisma glitter, Clear Detail embossing powder, Craft Heater, Paper piercer, Micro-tip scissors, 3D foam tape, Circle Coluzzle (retired), Pinking shears (Singer)
Hooligans Halloween Candy Corn Treat Box
I've had the Scallop Envelope die (SU) for a while now and finally played with it.  I've seen many cute boxes created with the scallop envelope, so I wanted to try one out myself.
I created a piece to wrap around the bottom and sides of the envelopes to adhere the envelope flats onto, creating a quick and easy box.  The CS piece is 1 9/16" x 7 3/4", scored at 2 1/4" in from both ends.  The B&Ts are from the Hooligans paper pack.  Even the little creature is from one of the B&Ts.  I just cut him out, matted him with some black CS and pop-dotted him with foam tape.
I'm always surprised how little the die boxes are because the finished projects I've seen always look so much bigger.  The size of this box is approx. 3 1/4" long x 2 1/4" tall x 1 9/16" wide.  Not huge by any means, but perfect for packaging up some Halloween sweets!
Happy creating!  :)
Supplies used (all CTMH unless otherwise noted):
Paper:  Hooligans B&Ts; Black CS
Stamps:  Tag The Occasion, Thriller (Sept. SOTM)
Inks:  Pear, Gypsy, Black
Embellishments:  Pear ribbon, Bitty sparkle, Purple chain (purse hardware by Leisurearts - LSS)
Punches:  1 1/4" circle, 1 1/2" circle (EK)
Other items:  Hole punch (EK), 3D foam tape, Scallop envelope die (SU), Micro-tip scissors, Score board (Martha Stewart)
(the bag for the candy is simply the one that I filled at the store...)
