Becky Seddon Flying High

This card was designed using the new Becky Seddon Flying High die set from Elizabeth Craft Designs.  The design team has been busy creating cards with all the new producrts from this release.

Here is the LINK to the Elizabeth Craft Designs Blog so you can see all the cards created with the new Becky Seddon release.

Here is how my card was created.

1.  This is a 6-inch square card.

2.  Cut a 6 inch square piece of white card stock for the front of the card.  Center the Flying High Die in the center of this square and die cut.  Color the plane with markers

3.  Die cut a second scene for  and cut out the airplane for a second plane.  Color the plane with markers.

4.  Use a piece of white card stock and shade with blue inks to represent the sky behind the die cut scene.  Attach behind the die cut.

5.  Use the circle die that is in the Flying High die set plus a die from the Fitted Circles die set to cut a narrow black frame.

6.  Attach the die cut Flying High scene over the blue background.  Attach to the front of the card.  Glue the black circle frame around the opening of the die cut scene.

7.  Attach the second plane as shown, using dimensional tape.

8.  Use the stamp from the Plant, Grow & Bloom Stamp set and stamp it using black ink on white card stock.  Cut around the sentiment using scissors.  Sponge blue ink around the edges and attach to the card front using dimensional foam tape.

9.  Use Black Line Peel Off Stickers to go around the outside edges of the card front, as shown.

We usually have a hard time designing masculine cards, and this die set is perfect for this.

Be sure to go over to the Elizabeth Craft Designs Blog to view all the other great new dies in the Becky Seddon Release.

Heartfelt Creations Balmy Breeze Design Paper

One of my favorite things to do when we go visit our son down in California is to go sailing with him.  This month Heartfelt Creations new collection is called Balmy Breeze and has beautiful stamps and design paper perfect for designing masculine cards.   This card was designed using a piece of the design paper for the background then cutting out some of the designs from a different paper in this pack to create this card. The large piece was cut out and backed with a piece of blue card stock that was distressed using the Zutter Distrezz-It.  Under this piece I taped down a piece of black mesh.  The compass was backed with a Nestabilities Petite Scalloped Circle then holes punched in each scallop.   The sentiment is from the Heartfelt Creations "Beautiful You PreCut Set".

This was a very quick and easy masculine card to create.    I love the beautiful package of  Design Paper that coordinates with all the stamps in the Heartfelt Creations Balmy Breeze collection.

You can order this new Heartfelt Creations collection from Joan's Gardens.

Special Moments with You

Today I created a masculine card using  the new Heartfelt Creations "Sweet Serenity" collection.  One of my favorite things to do is find a covered bridge when we go out for a ride in the countryside.  We always have to get out and take a lot of pictures.  This new collection from Heartfelt Creations has four beautiful scenic stamps I am sure you will enjoy working with.

For this card I used an older piece of Heartfelt Creations design paper for the background.  To distress it, I used the Zutter, Distrezz-it-All to rough up the edges of the paper.  To create the stitches around the edge of it, I used the Tim Holtz "Idea-ology" ruler which has little holes along one edge, and punched every other hole.  Next I used several Distress Inks to color the edges of the design paper, then used the Ranger "Perfect Medium" bullet marker to draw lines for the stitching.  Ranger bronze embossing powder was then sprinkled over the edge of each side.  Because I had used Distress Ink to shade the edges of the paper, some of the embossing powder stuck around the edges, which gave it a really cool look - like aging.  The Distress Inks stay "wet" for a while so if you don't want that added embossing, you must let it dry before creating the stitches and embossing them.

The stamped image is from the "Natural Beauty PreCut Set".  It was colored using Derwent Inktense pencils and Faber Castell Pastel Pencils.  The frame was created using the two largest Spellbinders "Labels Twenty" dies.  I just taped the smaller one down inside the larger die and ran it through the eBosser.   It was run back through with the embossing pad to get the embossing around the frame.  Tea Dye and Walnut Stain Distress Inks were sponged on it prior to placing it over the stamped design.  The larger die was used to cut out the stamped image, then it was glued to the back of the frame.  The sentiment is from the Heartfelt Creations "Sweet Serenity" design paper pad.

For Someone Special

As much as I love to design feminine cards, I do have three grandsons and they all have birthdays coming up soon, so I need to create three cards appropriate for them.  I have these Marianne Design Dies from Joan's Gardens that are perfect for a card for one of my grandsons.  The sail boat is one from the Marianne Design (LR0199) die set.  There are two boats in this set.  The lighthouse is a new die Marianne Design (LR0321).  I wasn't quiet sure how I could build a scene out on the ocean with just the dies, so I used a Heartfelt Creations stamp for my background.  I believe this particular stamp has been discontinued but there are other Heartfelt Creations lighthouse stamps you can get.  The scene was colored with Distress Markers.   I placed the die cut lighthouse over the stamped one which gives it added dimension.  When you die cut this lighthouse, it cuts out some of the areas so I die cut it twice so I could insert the red strips on the base of it.  Distress Markers were used to color the top portion.

Some clouds were part of the stamped image, then I used a cloud stencil to sponge on a blue sky creating more clouds.  The sail boat was colored using Distress Markers.  Both the lighthouse and sailboat were lightly sponged with Tea Dye Distress Ink to tone down the white.  I used a black marker to add some additional "waves" in the ocean.  To give the water some "white caps" I used a new product I am really in love with. You can purchase it from Joan.   It is called "Copic  Opaque White".  It is a thick white liquid that you add with a paint brush.  It is truly opaque.  I can imagine a lot of things I will be using this new product on -- especially when it comes time to design Christmas cards.  I'm sure this is another product you will love having in your supplies.    The pretty sentiment is from another new stamp set from Joan's Gardens.  It is a "Tina Wenke" clear stamp set called "With Love".

Tomorrow it will be time for a new Challenge at Joan's Gardens.  We have a fun challenge for you so hope you will come back to see what we have planned for you.

Masculine Happy Birthday

I am still playing with some of my new JustRite stamps.  The stamps I used today are from the "Anchors Away" clear stamps set.  I had a lot of fun creating the background for this card.  I wanted a masculine looking background so decided to create the background using torn pieces of masking tape.  Have you ever done this?  It is a little work, but I love the look, especially for masculine cards.

My card is 5.5" x 6".  I cut a piece of navy blue card stock 6" square for my base.  I then used a "cheap" masking tape and tore off small pieces about the size you see under the roll of tape above. I started at one corner and filled the card stock with lots of little pieces to cover the entire thing.  When I put the tape down, I kind of "scrunched" it up so it had some texture. In lots of areas I layered additional pieces to help with the texture.  Once I was satisfied with the coverage, I sponged on "Chipped Sapphire" Distress Ink over the entire surface.  Because Distress Ink stays "wet" I was able to cover the surface with clear embossing powder without covering it with VersaMark Ink.  As soon as I had all the embossing powder melted, using the heat gun, I added more "Chipped Sapphire" ink to make all the edges of the torn masking take show up even better.  I dried the ink with the heat gun.

The JustRite Ship was black embossed and cut out with a  Spellbinders circle die and sponged with "Tea Dye" Distress Ink.  The Medallion from the same set was black embossed, cut out with the matching JustRite Spellbinders medallion die and also sponged.     The ship was attached to the medallion with dimensional dots, then the medallion was also attached with dimensional dots to the background.

The tag was cut using one of the Spellbinders "Fancy Tags" dies.  It was sponged with "Tea Dye" Distress Ink before taking it out of the die.  Next I stamped the sentiment from the same JustRite stamp set, then lightly sponged on more "Tea Dye" Distress Ink.  I used a wide piece of "ScorTape" along the bottom of the card and layered pieces of black and tan twine across before attaching the tag.  To complete the card, I used a few black Dew Drops.

Masculine Card

The new Cheery Lynn "Bass Fishin" frame came out at the right time for me.  My son's birthday is next week and I know he loves to fish so I think he will really like this card.  I die cut the frame using black card stock and wanted to create a card with "texture".  I know. . .   I always think I need texture but it always adds so much "interest" to cards.   Any way, I used the Sizzix "Woodgrain" embossing folder to create a pool of water behind the fish.  Who would have thought a woodgrain design would make "water" but it worked out great!   There is a part of this embossing folder that looks like a Knot Hole in the wood, and that is the part I have just in front of the fish to resemble to area he jumped up out of the water.  I glued the aqua embossed piece, on the back,  along the outside edge of the die cut .

I added additional texture by using the the Poppy Stamps "Grassland" and Cheery Lynn "Grass Border" dies.  The Cheery Lynn grass was die cut using a darker shade of green card stock and the Poppy Stamps grass was die cut using a lighter shade of green to give some contrast between the two.  I wanted to create "cattails" in the grass so I used an old punch I have that was intended to create holes for a ribbon border.  The punched out pieces were perfect to use for cattails. These pieces were glued to the tips of the Poppy Stamps (taller) grass.

Since the Bass is jumping out of the lake, I figured he must be after something good to eat.  I added a pretty Memory Box "Willow Dragonfly".  It was die cut using a light lime card stock.  The wings were glued to the bottom of the body.  This die will cut two sets of wings and a body.  I have also placed the wings on top of the body in different posts, but kind of like it with the body on top of the wings.  To make it very "appealing", I add three colors of "Stickles" to the wings and another color to the body.  I first added "Firefly" over the wings, then a little "Lime Green", to the tips of the wings, then mixed in little "Aqua".   "Golden Red" Stickles was added to the body.  It turned out really pretty.  Too pretty for that fish to eat!!!!!   On the cattails, I added a little "Distress Vintage Photo" Stickles to help make them standout.   On the swirls, in the water, "Diamond" Stickles was added.  That doesn't show up very well in the photo, but it makes the rippled water look more realistic.  The sentiment is from Heartfelt Creations.

I hope you like my card.  This is a great die to create masculine cards.  It is beautiful even if you just want a quick and easy card without all the "extras" I added.

Masculine Happy Birthday

Today I needed to make a masculine birthday card and thought the new Poppy Stamps "Grand Madison Window" die (815) Joan's Gardens now has in stock, would be the perfect place to start.  Two pieces of design paper were layered on a 5.5 x 6" white card.  I used a scenic stamp from Heartfelt Creations but you could use any outdoors scenic stamp to get this cool effect.  It was colored using colored pencils and oms.  The window was die cut using vanilla card stock and sponged with several colors of light brown Distress Inks.  The window was attached over the scene with dimensional strips.  In the upper left corner I die cut the Memory Box "Woven Circle" (98114) using vanilla card stock and sponged it also with Distress Inks.  The sentiment in the center of this circle is from the JustRite "Birthday Sentiments stamp set.  A Tim  Holtz embellishment and a few brads were added to complete the card.

You can purchase the dies I used on this card from Joan's Gardens.  She has them in stock right now.  Have you been over to see all the new Poppy Stamps dies Joan just posted?  One of them is a window box  die to go under this great window.  While you are there, also check out that cute "Wildflower Patch" die!   You can place your  pre-order now for any of these dies. Remember, you will not be charged until they are shipped to you.

I want to thank all of you that have sent me birthday wishes today.  It has been so fun hearing from all of you.

Heartfelt Creations Beach Scene

It is a beautiful day and I wish I was down by the beach.  Since I can't go there right now, I decided to use the Heartfelt Creations "Harmony of Land and Sea" (695F) and "Seagull Roost" (698E) stamps and create a beach scene.  This is a shadow box card.  I started with two 6" square pieces of white card stock and scored two sides at 1/2" to create the box.  The light house scene was stamped using Memento Black Ink and colored using Copic Markers.  Clear glitter was added to the water and a very fine white flock was added to the clouds to give them a "fluffy" feeling.

To create the top of the shadow box, I used the Spellbinders Labels Two to create the opening.  A piece of 6x6" design paper from a new paper pad from Joan's Gardens called BoBunny "Barefoot & Bliss" was also scored at 1/2" on two sides and attached to the white card stock to be used for the top.  The largest of the Labels Two dies was used to cut the opening.  The second largest die in this set was used to cut a blue, slightly smaller, opening which was attached to the backside of the top.

The "Seagull Roost" was stamped, colored with Copic markers and cut out.  I wanted to attach this piece to the left side of the opening and there was one too many rocks on the left side of the stamped image, so I carefully cut it off and placed it on the right side of the opening.  Before attaching the sea gulls, I frayed and gathered a piece of mesh and attached it to the side of the card with glue dots.  The stamped design was also added over it with glue dots.  I used some of the threads I pulled off the large piece of mesh and created some dimension for the two sea shell "buttons" added to the lower right and corner.  Additional buttons were added under the sea gulls and up on the top corners.

It is always hard to design a masculine card.  I think this one will work great for one of my grandsons.  All three of them have summer birthdays!

All the products printed in "bold"  can be purchased from Joan's Gardens.

Hope you are having a nice weekend.

Joan's Tag Challenge #2

Have you joined in on the fun Tag  Challenge at Joan's Gardens?   I want to congratulate Cathy Willet for receiving the most votes on her tag last week.   This week Joan posted a gorgeous tag using the new Graphic 45 paper, Springtime paper.  Be sure to go to Joan's blog to see her tag and read about the second  challenge.

I am loving the tag challenges because I always need a tag for something.  I can't believe it, but my oldest son turns 50 next week -- yikes,  I can't even believe I am older than that!  I am mailing his gift to him today and this is the tag I will put on it.

I started out with a shipping tag purchased from Joan's Gardens.  I took a piece of newspaper and tore around the edges of a sports article, wrinkled it up and ran it through the Zyron machine, and attached it to the tag.  Using different Tim Holtz Distress inks, I sponged several shades of brown inks over it.   The lighthouse is from the JustRite "By the Sea" stamp set.  I stamped it twice with brown ink on ivory card stock.  One image was trimmed around the border and the lighthouse was cut out of the second image.  These were also sponged with the Distress inks.  The lighthouse that was cut out was attached with dimensional tape over the one on the larger image.

The "celebrate" is from the JustRite stamp set "Just A Note".  I used scissors to cut around the design and attached it with dimensional tape.   Several pieces of fibers were tied in the hole at the top of the tag.  It is always hard to make masculine tags/cards, but I think my son will really like this one.

Hope you will join us in the tag challenges.

Paper Piecing Challenge

Did  you check out all the beautiful cards on the CSS Design Team Blog Hop last night.  Wow!  There are so many beautiful cards.  If you missed it, you can click here on Gina's Blog and take the tour.

Tonight I am posting my example for doing the Paper Piecing technique.  You can go to StampTV here to see all the details about the Blast From the Past challenge and watch Gina's great video showing you how to do this technique.

To create my card, I used two stamp sets from Gina K Designs:  Guiding Light and  Hip to be Square.  The  background paper is Gina's digital paper.  I started by stamping  the Hip to be Square Window.  Using a stamp positioner, I then stamped the lighthouse inside the window.  I stamped a second lighthouse on Eclipse masking tape and cut it out for my mask then stamped it once more on  another piece of Gina's digital paper so I could paper piece it.  Copic markers were used to color the blue potion of the lighthouse, the two buildings, and the sand.   A mask was placed over the  stamped design.   A large sponge dauber and blue ink  was used to create the sky.  My clouds were created using a piece of acetate cut in  scallops.  A darker blue ink was used for the ocean.  I originally was going to cut some Nestability stars to decorate this card  because I had used the  dp with stars for the lighthouse, but changed my mind and  added birds.  The birds were stamped and lightly colored with  a Copic marker and cut out.  I cut part of the wing off one  then placed one in the middle so I could draw a line through it.  I was trying to make it look as though you are looking out a window.  To decorate the bottom of the card, I cut  one plank of the woodgrain dp out, then used deckle scissors on each end and sponged on a little gray ink.  Screw brads were added at each end to help make it look rustic.

I hope you will join in on my challenge this week.  This is a very fun technique.  If you would like to see the cards submitted so far for this challenge, click  here.  Remember, you  have a chance to win a  stamp set valued up to $24.95.

Happy Birthday

Today is my husband's birthday. He is an avid golfer so naturally I had to make a "golf" birthday card. Gina did a StampTV tutorial today on how to ink a Cuttlebug embossing folder. She made a beautiful card and her technique is easier than what I have done in the past. You can watch her video here. I loved the card she made and thought this would be the perfect background for my card.

I used the Cuttlebug Argyle embossing folder, Vanilla card stock and Sahara Sand ink pad. Gina did this with a small ink pad and I think it would work much better but I didn't have a soft neutral color, in a small pad, so used a regular size pad and a brayer. Don't you love the way this technique brings out the texture of the embossing! I mounted it on Night of Navy card stock.

I stamped the golf bag (retired from SU) with black Memento ink and colored with Copic markers. The reason I use Memento ink is because the ink does not smear when using the Copic markers. You can use other inks, but you usually need to heat set them first. I used a silver Copic's glitter pen on the head of the golf clubs to make them look like metal. After getting it colored, I cut the image out. I used the Long Rectangle Nestabilities to cut out a Sahara Sand card stock frame. I mounted that with dimensionals onto a piece of Night of Navy card stock.

The "Happy Birthday" is from SU. I cut it out using a the SU Word Window Punch. I added two brads in the tag and mounted it on dimensionals. The golf club is an embellishment I have had for a while and decided to add it to this card for more dimension. I used Scor-Tape to attach it. I then stamped three golf balls using VersaMark and Detail White Embossing Powder.

The inside of this card holds a gift certificate for him to go play at a very nice golf course he has been wanting to go to. We will be having a special dinner and party tonight.

You raise me up

Have you ever been up in a hot air balloon? I went straight up in one once, but didn't actually go for a ride. It was very noisy, but fun. I think it would be fun to really go for a ride. When we go to visit our son, down in Del Mar, CA, there are lots of hot air balloons out every day. We love to watch them.

This card was made with another stamp from the StampTV Eclectic Summer Kit and the verse is from the Eclectic Summer Verses. This all comes in the fantastic new kit just released - everything is there to make lots of beautiful cards. To give you lots of ideas, be sure to check out Gina's tutorial over on StampTV. You receive two stamp sets, sheets of red, white, and blue cardstock, designer paper, ribbons, brads and a storage case to keep everything in. There is also a free digital paper download on StampTV that works well with these stamps. Get your free download here: http://stamptv.ning.com/page/freebies-2

To make this card, I first stamped the hot air balloon on a piece of white cardstock then cut it out with the petite oval nestabilities. I used a piece of the navy blue cardstock for the scalloped background. The sky was first sponged using a large sponge dauber and Bashful Blue ink. I then stamped one of the trees from Gina's "Tree Silhouettes" on the left side and added some grass to the bottom of the frame.

To create the hot air balloon, I stamped it twice -- once on the red/white stripped digi paper and once on the navy with stars digi paper. I did this different than Gina did on her tutorial on StampTV. I cut out the entire balloon part from both pieces. I then cut out the four strips of blue and glued them to the red strip. (You can see I'm working on that Tan Teflon Craft Sheet I talked about in my blog on Monday.) I then stamped the top portion of the balloon, just to get the red band that goes across the top, and cut it out then glued it to the balloon. I then pieced all that onto the hot air balloon stamped on the oval frame. A brown marker was used to color the bottom of the balloon frame and the basket.

For the card background, a piece of white cardstock was embossed with the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots folder then layered on a piece of the red cardstock. A piece of ribbon from the kit was attached to the bottom and the verse attached on it with dimensional glue dots. Red rhinestones were added for a little sparkle.

Our family is going up to Canada early in the morning to spend the weekend, so I will not have any posts until next Monday. Have a fun weekend.

Another Lighthouse

I am loving this set. Up until now, I have not had many stamps to make masculine cards with. This is another card made with "Guiding Light" from GinaK Designs. I wanted to try something different this time. I wanted it to feel like you are seeing the lighthouse from the ocean, rather than looking out at the ocean. I used a piece of Gina's Digi background paper with some of the nautical netting she now carries. It goes so perfect with this set. The lighthouse was black embossed then watercolored with Peerless Watercolors. You can purchase them from GinaK here: http://www.shop.ginakdesigns.com/category.sc?categoryId=50 I love these watercolors because they come on a thin sheet and you can punch out a small square of each color and mount them on a piece of heavy cardstock. All your colors are right in front of you and it makes it so easy to choose colors to blend. You just use the Niji Waterbrush to pick up color.

After coloring the lighthouse, it was masked off and the background was stamped then sponged. The mountains are from a retired SU set. Long rectangle Nestabilities were used to create the frames. Each layer is on dimensionals. The anchor was colored with a Copic Glitter pen. To get the netting and sailor's knot to stick to the background, I ran it through a sticker machine. Three bronze brads were added under the scene.

Textured Sunset

This card is made with Rupa's "Guiding Light" set from GinaK Designs. Actually when I purchased this set I wasn't sure I could come up with many good ideas (after all, it isn't a flower set!!!). However, I just love working with it. I decided for a "different" texture I would do a background using masking tape. I tore tiny pieces of the tape and covered the whole piece of cardstock. I then rubbed my Barely Banana ink pad over the whole thing then repeated with Cameo Coral and then some Old Olive ink. Because the texture of the tape is rough, I then poured clear embossing powder all over it and then heated it up with my heat tool. It gave it a shiny look. That finished off my textured background.

I then black embossed the lighthouse. I cut it out using nestabilities. I left it in the frame while adding color. I masked off the lighthouse. I then used sponge daubers to create the sky to coordinate with my background, sponged on the ocean and the sand. I then used colored pencils to create an "old dirty" looking lighthouse and buildings. I used my Peerless Watercolors to create the faded red on the buildings. I added the birds to give it more dimension. I used Kitty Caracciolo's Cause a Scene beach set for the small birds and the sand. I cut a piece of the nautical webbing I purchased from Gina and ran it through my small adhesive machine so it would stick well to my background. I added a few nautical charms I had to the netting and three brads to the upper right corner. I don't usually get very excited about a card I make but I really like how this one turned out. I am going to save it and send it to my son who lives in San Diego.

On The Beach

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

I would love to be spending time on the beach. My friend, Dianna, just returned and had a fabulous time. I'm looking forward to today. My sweet granddaughter, Alison, is making a special dinner for her mom and me -- it is one of our favorite meals. She is 15. Hard to believe my grandkids are getting so "grown up". Maybe Shannon will be giving us each a beautiful card she made. She is 11 and has been my stamping buddy since she was very small.

This is another card made with Rupa Shevde's "Guiding Light" set from GinaK Designs. The images were black embossed and colored with Peerless Watercolors. The seagull, on the pilings, was cut out and attached just on the bottom half to give it a 3-D effect. The sand was watercolored then I used a little "sand" stamp from Kitty Caracciolo's Cause a Scene beach set. I thought it gave the large sand area some texture. The Lighthouse was masked then I used Not Quite Navy ink and a large sponge dauber to create the sea. The sky was sponged with Bashful Blue using a cloud template and a large sponge dauber. The birds in the sky are on dimensionals. I had a few little sea shell embellishments that I thought looked great in the on the bottom of the card.

Lighthouse

It is beautiful outside today so I am going to do my post this morning so I can go out and enjoy some sun. This card was made with a new set released by GinaK. It is Rupa's "Guiding Light" set. The image is black embossed then colored with Peerless Watercolors I purchased from GinaK. So fun to work with these watercolors! On StampTV, Jessica showed us how to punch small squares of each color and tape them to a cardboard. I purchased both the starter set and the larger set so I have lots of colors to choose from. The colors are vibrant and blend so beautifully. I used a cloud stencil and a large sponge dauber to create the clouds. The image was cut out with Oval Nestabilities. The cardstock colors are Bravo Burgundy, Basic Black and Always Artichoke. The base of the card is Very Vanilla. I used the SU scallop punch to make the border then attached the sailor's knot on top. Thanks to Brenda from StampTV for the instructions on how to do this. The top portion of the background was embossed with the Cuttlebug Argyle embossing folder. The image is raised on dimensionals.

Well I'm off to go out and enjoy the beautiful weather! Have a great day.

At The Beach

The weather is finally getting nice and I would love to go to the beach. I see seagulls in the shopping center parking lot but it's not the same as seeing them on the beach. This card was made using Rupa's "Guiding Light" stamp set. This set was just released by GinaK Designs. The main image was colored using Copic markers. I used a large sponge dauber and Soft Blue ink to create the sky/clouds with a cloud stencil. The sand was created with a stamp from Kitty's Caracciolo "Cause a Scene". I used chalks to fill in the sand area. The rectangles were cut with Nestabilities. The So Saffron piece was run through the Cuttlebug Tiny Mosaic Texture embossing folder. I thought it coordinated well with the rope. The designer paper is a piece out of my paper stash. The two birds in the sky are put on dimensionals. I added antique brass brads to each corner of the design.

Howdy

Well, I just couldn't stand it. I didn't expect to stamp until later next week since I don't have the best eye sight right now. However, I just received Theresa's Out West stamp set (GinaK Designs) and just had to make a card with it. I was so excited for this set to arrive. Theresa's mom, Geri, made a beautiful card that I love, and it was the inspiration for my card. You can see Geri's card here: http://stamptv.ning.com/photo/in-the-stables. She made the most realistic woodgrain for her card. I used the Cuttlebug Distressed Strips embossing folder to create my woodgrain. I also used a Cuttlebug cut/emboss frame for the horse, and sponged over it. The images were colored with colored pencils and OMS. The lasso was made with hemp and hung on a large brad. Howdy was black embossed.

Monkey under tree

Wanted to create a scene with this little money from Melanie's "Just so Hippy". I created the tree trunk by cutting 3 narrow strips of Creamy Carmel cardstock and spraying them with water to soften them. I then used a clip to hold all three pieces together and started braiding. To create the top of the tree, I used a leaf stamp from SU Daisy set. I stamped seven and alternated layers. The monkey had to sit on sand, so I tore a piece of River Rock cardstock and stamped some sand hills using one of Kittie's scene sets. I then tore a piece of sky blue to add for water and mounted on a piece of Bordering Blue for the sky. I used Sky Blue, and a new large sponge dauber I ordered from GinaK, to create the clouds and waves. The monkey is colored with chalks and colored pencils. I did not use OMS because I wanted it to look like hair on the monkey. I cut three very thin strips of green cardstock for stems then attached the little flowers from that set. The Miss You is also from the Just So Hippy set and cut out with an oval nestability. I used the piercing tool to punch holes around the oval. Two black gems were added on the upper corners.
