Crafty Gals Corner - Challenge #89 - Freestyle

It's time for another challenge with us at the
This week it is anything goes with

Today I have used a My Besties image (img856) by Sherri Baldy Designs, one of our generous sponsors for the challenge to create my Design Team project this week.

I coloured the image with Copic markers then double matted it with orange cardstock.
The base is 8"x8" (yes, it ended up being a huge card) which I made into a top fold by scoring the back panel and adhering it in place using a book binding glue (see below).
The pom pom trim is quite bulky, so I added a foam layer between the green matted layers and under the matted image panel, so that all the layers sit nice and flat, with the trim tucked into a channel in the foam.
The ballons are a combination of balloon dies and "strings" from Christmas ornament dies.

At first I was nervous about her curls but once I got started and decided to give them a more doodled texture, they were fun, can't wait to colour more.  It is difficult to see but there are three shades of brown in each curl.

Crafty Gals Corner Challenge #83 - Birthdays / Celebrate

It's time for another challenge on the Crafty Gals Corner Blog.
Challenge #83 Birthdays / Celebrate

Today I have used the Gabbie Birthday Fairy digital stamp from Faery Ink,
one of our fabulous sponsors for the challenge this week.

This cute image comes with and without balloons.
Today I have gone without the balloons, adding die cut ones separately.

I coloured Gabbie using Copic markers, using Wink Of Stella Glitter Pens for the cupcake and hair bow.  I used a very delicate shade for the wings, adding sparkle with Clear Wink Of Stella Brush Pen.

What do you think?  Does she need red lipstick?  Do they need to sparkle?

Here is a close-up to show her sparkling wings & cupcake and her shimmering silver pendant.

string ornament rebellion

My Poppystamps String Ornament die is having an identity crisis.
Today it has turned upside down to make fun birthday balloons.

This card is 6"x6" and has lots of layers.
I love the cheery pattern of this paper from the Kaisercraft Fiesta 6.5" paper pad.
When I made the balloon panel it looked a bit stark all alone, so I started layering other colours to match the pattern of the paper.  There is a narrow 1mm border on each layer.

Here is a close up to show the dimension.  I have used two different thickenesses of foam dots, I layered one balloon with the thinnest, the next balloon with the thickest, the third balloon has them layered together, so they all sit at different heights.

What's that?
You're wondering how the "strings" can be so long?

Well I have to confess that the tallest balloon has had surgery.  I placed the orange balloon to be the highest but the string didn't reach the bottom of the panel, so I adhered it down, trimmed the end off another "string" and adhered it in line with it.  I placed the light pink balloon so that the string covered the join, so nobody will ever know ... except you and me.

My card design is based on a very old Becky Fleck CardMaps sketch from 2012.

Ingredients:
Paper Smooches - Birthday Words Dies
Kaisercraft - Fiesta paper pad
Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive (to adhere matted layers)
Tombow Mono Multi Glue (to adhere sentiment & balloon strings)
Foam dots, different thicknesses (to adhere balloons)

Zentangle Heartstrings

My first attempt at Zentangle.

  • I created "Heartstrings" using the tutorial by Helen Williams found here: http://tanglepatterns.com/2013/02/how-to-draw-heartstrings.html
  • I used a Becky Higgins Project Life Black 05 journaling pen on white Canson cardstock to create my heartstrings, really need to try 03 or even 01 for a more delicate design.
  • After struggling with where to cut my panel, my dear husband came up with the wonderful idea to fussy cut them out - LOVE how they turned out!!!
  • The sentiment is from the Sizzix Stephanie Barnard Regal Card Stand-Ups Framelits Die Set - I layered 3 together for dimension, adhered perfectly together with Tombow Mono Multi Glue.
  • The flourish is the "Ivy Tendrils" die from Poppystamps.
  • I used an A4 sheet of black Canson cardstock scored & folded in half to make the card base, the red & white panels are Canson cardstock too.  My card is sitting on some red cardstock with some black hearts scattered beside it ... I've seen it with sequins & thought I would give it a try :)
