Relax, it's your birthday

It's time for a new challenge with us on the

Penny's Challenge 467
As always, the challenge is Anything Goes.

The sponsors for this challenge are:

SheepSki Designs

~~~*~~~*~~~
Today I have used the My Pad digital stamp from SheepSki Designs, one of our generous sponsors for this challenge, to make a fun birthday card.
I opened the image in Silhouette Studio and sized it to 3 1/2" to fit in the 4" oval.  I printed the image on X-Press It blending card, heat set, coloured with Copic markers and die cut to size.  I scored a panel of cardstock and offset the largest stitched scalloped oval die over the fold then die cut to create the card base.  I die cut another full panel from the same cardstock, scored halfway down the "front" of the card base and adhered the full panel to the lower half of the front panel to create the easel card.  I die cut several matting layers for the front and inside of the card, adhering them and the image panel in place with liquid adhesive.  This is where I confess that I had to do a double-take, as some of the adhesive oozed through the stitches and looked pretty horrible, so I quickly pulled it off, cut another panel and was more strategic with how much and where I put the adhesive.  I created a sentiment using a combination of fonts, printed, trimmed to size, matted with cardstock then trimmed to size using a 1/16" Perfect Layers Ruler.  I adhered the sentiment in place with foam squares inside the card so that it provided a little ledge for the card front to prop against for the easel fold.
Easel fold cards are surprisingly easy to make and are such a fun fold,
they pop up for a pretty display and fold flat for mailing.
It's Stripes with A Bit More Time To Craft
It's time for a new challenge with us on the
As always, the challenge is Anything Goes.
Three to five random winners are drawn and
each get to choose 3 set of papers from the Paper Pick Tab
Note: there are lots of freebie patterned papers on the Freebie Tab
~~~*~~~*~~~

Today I have used the It's Stripes digital paper by Lozzy at A Bit More Time To Craft to make some some Christmas cards.  This digital paper set comes in thirty-three, yes, 33 different colour patterns and they're perfect for cardmaking, scrapbooking and off-the-page projects.  The best thing about Digital papers is that you can size or rotate the pattern to suit.  For this project I rotated the striped panel 45o and enlarged it to be slightly larger than the panels I wanted to cut, digitally trimming off the excess before printing it.  If you're a lucky challenge winner, you could include this set as one of your Paper Picks.

My cards started on my Silhouette Studio design mat, where I opened the cut file I used for the card base and the It's Stripes digital patterned paper I wanted to feature on the front and inside the card.  This fancy fold is called a gatefold shutter design, a traditional gatefold with a shutter mechanism on the inside that reveals an image or message hidden inside.  I enlarged the cut file as big as I could, which was limited to the belly band being 11 3/4" long, the flat folded card is 4 7/8" x 6 5/16".  I rotated the patterned paper 45o then enlarged it to be slightly larger than the two panels on the front of the card.  I duplicated this piece of paper and used the same size for the window panel inside the card.  I digitally trimmed off the excess from the panels before printing then cutting with the Silhouette Cameo.  I opened the I used the Cameo to cut the card base, shutter mechanism and belly band from cardstock.  I die cut the layers for the poinsettias, holly and sentiments.  I used liquid adhesive to secure all the layers.

Here is the closed card.

and here it is fully open

This gatefold shutter card is a fun design.

and Fredrick is a fun surprise to find inside

I thoroughly enjoy making both cute & traditional Christmas cards, I choose the designs based on the recipients, as I like personalise our cards for family and friends.  These cards are a combination of both, from the outside they look traditional, lots of red & green with layered poinsettias, once they're opened, the fun cuteness of a frog peeks out for a Hoppy Christmas.  Fancy folds and non-traditional images are so much fun and I like to mix things up a bit.

Hoppy Christmas Wishes

Yes, I know that I've made a lot of Christmas cards this year but I have to confess that I might have gone a bit overboard with the size and dimension.  It means that many are too big and bulky to go through standard mail, if I posted them they would all have to go as parcels, so I will be saving them for delivery in person.
Now it's time for some more "standard" cards.

These CAS cards are 5" x 7" and are flat for mailing.
I used Felix the frog from the Frog Hop digital stamp set from Beccy's Place.  Unfortunately I can't colour at the moment, so it's a real bonus, having both B&W and pre-coloured images in this set of cute frogs and fun sentiments.

I opened the image on my Silhouette Studio design mat and sized the image to fit on a 5" x 7" card.  I added a sentiment (font details below) then printed it on textured cardstock.  I trimmed the panels down to size then matted using a combination of Perfect Layers Rulers before attaching to plain card 5" x 7" card bases.

Not sure if you noticed, but I made the sentiment in the shape of a Christmas Tree, so finished it off with a sparkling rhinestone to match my pair of Christmas frogs.

Both cards were matted like the one above but I had a little
craft-cident with some washi tape on the green mat of the second one,
so gave it a little trim ... I'm thinking that this is even prettier.
Isn't it funny how sometimes things turn out better than planned?

What do you think?
Go with more elegant, narrow border or more festive, broader border cards?

BEE Happy

Exciting news!

I'm thrilled to be
Guest Designer
on the

Today I have used the super cute Sherri Baldy My Besties - digital stamp - img577.
I printed the image on A5 X-Press It Blending Card, heat set then coloured with Copic markers.

I cut the frame and green layers on my craft mat from textured cardstock and adhered the layers on an A5 top folding card base.
The sentiment is a die cut, the bee is too.
I die cut the bee in black and white cardstock, coloured the stripe panels with a Copic marker.  I traced around the bee body and cut a backing panel to adhere the body and stripes too.  I traced the wings on vellum, smothered with sparkle using Clear Wink Of Stella Glitter Brush and adhered them to the back of the bee wings.  I put a couple of foam dots under the body and popped it in place.

Here is a close up showing the sparkling vellum bee wings.

... and another couple of pics

~~~*~~~*~~~
I had lots of inky fun creating with these cute stamps,
so many frogs in all sorts of poses,
so many funny sentiments too.
Thinking ahead to some recipe books that we'll be giving as gifts, I thought that some bookmarks would be a fun way to make them extra special, giving a little giggle while they're preparing decadent treats.
I started by die cutting some X-Press It blending card into tags.
I stamped a bundle of the frogs and cupcakes on Post-It Full Adhesive Super Sticky Adhesive Notes and fussy cut each one.  Next came the tags.  I placed the small tag in the MISTI and aligned the frog, cupcake and sentiment using the "masks", placing the frog and sentiment stamps in place and stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink.  I masked the frog, then stamped the cupcake.
The images were coloured with Copic markers then masked.  I placed the tag die over the tag and applied Tumbled Glass Distress Ink over the inner panel, then gave a light touch of colour to the outer edges of the tag.  ... it was like openiing a gift as I peeled back the masks.
The colouring shows through the back of the blending card, so I cut another tag and a pair of tag rings from black cardstock and adhered them together.  It covered the back of the image panel, made the bookmark sturdier and gave me plenty of space to write a message.  I finished it off with several strands of orange/white and green/white twine.
The second, taller tag was made in the same way, stamping the tall balancing frog, masking it, stamping the sitting frog, masking it, then stamping the cupcake.
... and here are the two bookmarks together.
You can click on any of the images to see them in full screen.
The sentiment on the small bookmark reads:
"My head says yoga but my heart says cupcakes"
The sentiment on the tall bookmark reads:
"Some days you eat salads and do yoga.
Some days you eat cupcakes and refuse to put on pants...
It's called balance."
Don't forget to leave a comment for your chance to win the
The Muppets are favourites with our nieces and nephews and a song that strikes a chord is Kermit singing "It's not easy being green".  While it sounds sad while he is singing it, feeling invisible and insignificant, by the end he realises that being green is special and beautiful too.  ... of course it helps that I love frogs and confess to having a collection of "green" frog ornaments :)
