Ellie's creative Monday / Lundi créatif d'Ellie

Another tiny booklet for you today:

Instead of white, black heat embossing this time; coloring with Nuance powders.
That's al there is to the cover. One stamp for both front and back.

... and some script stamped with red.

A picture of both the booklets; which one is your favorite?

Ellie's creative Monday / Lundi créatif d'Ellie

Create the notebook by folding black cardstock, and approximately  6 white papers in half.
- Use the 3-hole-binding to bind the notebook with waxed thread.
- Cut the book to size.

I had a part of the colored background left and created a bookmark from it.

I folded the bookmark and added a thin strip of red doublesided tape to the upper edge on the inside.
This way it will stick out a little at the top of the notebook, but also stay put.

The background has been colored with Nuance. I love these colors together.

It measures about 10 x 10,5 centimeters.

An easy bound notebook:

HOW TO:
- Create a colorful background with Distress Oxide Inks, Broken China and Fired Brick.
- Stamp the flowers and heat emboss in clear.
- Remove the color from the images with bleach.
- Mask the images and stamp the script in the background.
- Add red to the centre of the flowers and the berries with a watercolor pencil.

- Create the book by folding black cardstock, and white paper in half, use the 3-hole-binding to bind the notebook with waxed thread.
- Cut the book to size.

- Heat emboss the script in white on the black front cover.
- Sponge with the same colors of Distress Oxide mentioned earlier over the black cardstock.
- Stamp the word "NOTE" on white cardstock.
- Assemble the front-cover as shown.

- Add white doodling with a gelli roller or acrylic marker... and add white splatters!

I hope you got inspired!

Tutorial on how to make a vintage booklet..

(Als je nederlands spreekt, bezoek dan even mijn persoonlijke blog, de tutorial heb ik daar in het nederlands.)

A tutorial for you today, of how I made this booklet; to be used for art journaling later on!!

The book measures about 11 x 7,5 centimeters.

****

All photo's in the step by step can be viewed larger by clicking on it.

- Step 1 - Make this booklet by tearing out every second page from an ancient hymnebook (or any other book). Glue two pages together with multi-medium. After it has dried, tear off the edges of all the pages. Cut the cover of the book to fit the size of the pages; approximately 4 mm more on each side than the size of the pages.  Add a label as shown to the top of the booklet.

***

- Step 2 - Adhere some fabric to the cover with bookbinding glue. I chose to use some burlap type of cloth; it has a nice structure. Leave to dry. Paint the cover with white acrylic paint, which has been diluted with water; makes it easier to paint it, and will not fill up the structure of the fabric. Leave to dry.

***

- Step 3 -  Make your own tissue wrap by stamping onto tissue paper. Tear off some of it to fit the front and back cover, and glue it to it as shown. Dab with a sturdy brush when it has dried on the surface (otherwise the tissue paper will tear), to get the structure of the fabric back a little. Leave to dry.

Step 4 - With a waterbrush, color it with some liquid watercolors with a waterbrush. I've used different blues and purple Ecoline and Rohrer & Klingner aquarellfarbe (watered-down!). Let the colors blend, and dab it off when it gets too colorful.

***

- Step 5 - Add some red-goldish Quiacridone Gold from Golden with a dry brush technique, or otherwise with a finger, applying a tiny bit of paint at a time.  The paint still looks very darkish as I took the photo while it was still wet.
When dry, add touches of white acrylic paint, to knock back the yellowish color a little.

front
- Step 6 - Add some white with a white acrylic marker around the edges of the butterflies. I stamped the text of the collaged butterflies on a white piece of paper and adhered it to a filmstrip with double-sided tape. I also attached an eyelet to the strip.  Adhere the filmstrip to the back and front cover as shown.

***
- Step 7 -  Glue a piece of the same fabric onto stiffener, and glue that to the back of the book as shown. See to it that it overlaps the fimstrip a little bit. Color it with the same colors as in step 4, 5 and 6. It does not have to be perfect- it adds to the vintagy feel of it. LOL.

***

  - Step 8 - Adhere a torn piece of bookpaper on the inside of the book, to just peep over the edge. I added several layers of multi medium to stiffen the paper a little.

So there you are...
I really hope you like this.
PS  I made this for a dutch Art Journal group on Facebook, of which I am the owner and incouraged the members to also create a booklet like this.
