BIOGRAPHY
Born in 1973, Marcus James was raised in the West Country by artistic parents. They encouraged him to study life drawing from an early age, which developed his draughtmanship and artistic awareness. Marcus moved to London in 1993 attending Central Saint Martins and graduated with a BA in Illustration.

Marcus moved to London in 1993 attending Central Saint Martins and graduated with a BA in Illustration.
He then went on to receive an MA in Illustration from the Royal College of Art, where he studied life drawing and anatomy in the morgue at the University Hospital.
These studies were the basis for an exhibition and book called “The Anatomy Room, The Drawing Studio, and The Beach” for which won the Sheila Robinson Prize for Drawing

Marcus runs a print studio where he concentrates on fine art projects and print design. Print design includes collaborations with Chloe, Yves Saint Laurent, and Camilla Staerk. In 2006 Marcus exhibited a one-man show entitled Dirty Flowers at Scream Gallery in London. Dirty Flowers is a series erotic drawings and screenprints about ambiguIty and sexual intrigue.
Marcus is currently working on two projects. A series of large drawings each defined with a narrative of its own. Images are drawn with heavy graphite onto paper and then rubbed out, the process is repeated many times with different scenes so that each layer is visible and the result is an understandable narrative. Secondly a series of life size drawings of Iberian bulls made from studies of Corrida in Spain.
