day 14

 Ohhh how time flies
when you're looking back
. . . . .
There are things you don't have to do anymore
things you can't do anymore
things you can still do.
One experiences many changes because of old age,
but, we're still enjoying the fun !

For today I have made a very "busy" animal :
taking good care, so there will be something to eat in winter,
hiding treasures for "later"

My PINK  RIBBON Textile Jewel
for (birth)day 14 :

a wet felted circle pendant with a real acorn cup,
stitched with silk, rayon and cotton
on an adjustable wax cord
(8 x 5cm,  3.15 x 2")

For a donation of
(at least)

€ 20,-

SOLD  !

this busy squirrel can be yours
(to remind you to take good care of yourself
or to take care of someone else !)
Just send me an email at
fiberrainbow@gmail.com
and everything will be arranged !
Bank or Paypal
is possible and easy.

ALL the donated money is for Pink Ribbon !

"SQUIRREL"

You can collect this acorn
or you can wait
(or might have to wait !)
for a new Pink Ribbon Textile Jewel
tomorrow.

"night friends"

Here's the finished little painting
(only 9 x 14 cm ,   3.5 x 5.5")
The new fine brushes I bought lately
are just fine for this
(I had some older ones with hairs sticking out : grrrrrrrrr)

Because it is such fun
I started on the next one immediately.

day 26

October 26
is a special day in this house
hmmmmm
forty-seven years ago
.....
and still going strong !
;-)

Today there's a lovely creature in my mandala :
hasty, swift, careful
and with a LOT of fine reddish hair ...
yes, I love
squirrels

The Pink Ribbon mandala for day number twenty-six

"gatherer"

Karisma colour pencils on heavy weight drawing paper  (A4)
the mandala itself is  14 cm  (5.5")  in diameter

If you want to hang this lovely agile fellow (girl) on your wall,
or you want it as a present for someone who loves the woods
then please send me an email at fiberrainbow@gmail.com
This original artwork costs  € 26, -  (+ postage
€ 1,92 in Holland and  € 3,15 elsewhere)

Some people might ask why I don't have the artworks framed ?
That would be rather difficult and expensive in the mail.
And you might have a different taste for a frame than I have.
IKEA (HEMA in Holland) or any Art supplies store
have simple and good quality frames
for anyone's taste.
(it's not difficult at all to put a drawing in a frame !)

(see you tomorrow)

day 13 (and a trip to town)

Drawing my mandala,
and then a quick tour to Rotterdam
for some shopping.

First of all
the most important thing this month :
Pink Ribbon mandala number thirteen

"the quick brown ..."

Karisma colour pencils on fine watercolour paper  (A5)
The mandala is  12 cm  (5")  in diameter

I you like this fox, or have it as a present for someone dear
(Christmas or "Sinterklaas" isn't that far away)
you can send an email to fiberrainbow@gmail.com
It costs  € 13, -  (+ postage)
And all the money goes to Pink Ribbon

*

So ... I made my trip to Rotterdam by boat,
as usual, and bike.

Holland has a lot of water
so a lot of bridges too !

On my way to the city, with all the bikes ...

and at the end of my trip in the center of the city

where the former office building (now a hotel) of the old
Holland - America - Line
is dwarfed by the new Port of Rotterdam building
and the Montevideo appartment building

I also visited the new Market Hal
a spectacular design
(and far from finished)
It is an arch-like building
with appartments on the outside
and a huge hall with little shops inside.

People in Rotterdam have already come up with a nickname for it :
the "Rotterdam Sistine Chapel"

The outside

Just looking through
you can see the "Pencil" (another nickname) an appartment building.

To the left, including a portret of the "Sint-Laurenskerk"
whereof only the tower and the outside walls
were about the only bits that were still standing downtown,
after the big bombing of Rotterdam in May 1940

and to the right, more fruits and flowers.
Perhaps you can understand the nickname now ?

Little shops and stalls : just like a market
(though not as cheap as on the real market ...)

(see you tomorrow,
a special day for Man)

maandag 2 december 2013

fishy business ?

Working for the Christmas Fair
gives me the opportunity (or urge)
to try some new things.

This time my inspiration is what lives in the sea.
Not very Christmassy you might think,
but that isn't specifically required.

I love seahorses !!!

(though  NOT  the dried ones cast in plastic !!!)

in progress

Then another creature came along

They're waiting to be rinsed in vinegar,
but I'll do that later,
when there are more

Both templates tore when I pulled them out
(never mind that : I have lots and lots more of that)

When they're dry
(I will probably do some stitching)
and stuff them (a bit) with wool .

embellisher's "eye"

Last Saturday
daughter and I went to the Alpaca farm.
There they have a knitting group
that meets every first Saturday of the month
but, this day was additional.
Though the weather turned rather cold
inside it was warm and cosy :
with nine ladies,
coffee, tea and cookies
a LOT of talking and laughter
and some knitting.
We had a lovely morning.

One of the ladies (Linda) made these fun crochet animals,
lóve that mole with his pin prick eyes !
(no ladies in sight here, because I didn't ask their permission, so ... )

Because I still had some felt cuts
I started with the embellisher again.

... an angel under the machine ...

and an angel in my hand

The little piece made me think of the "God's eye" image

(a lovely picture that I found on the web)

animal crackers

Well .... not really of course
but when I look at my felt cut outs
the name is appropriate

fabric, felt and tulle sewed together.

Here are yesterday's fish
in the piece of needle felted felt
(so it's not real "felt"  because it isn't wet felted !)

After adding some pre-felt parts
and woolen thread

it's time for my magic thread !

(Although this little ball is all I have
I'm sure it will last to decorate many many more of my pieces)

Next steps will be : to do some more stitching,
paint a canvas in a matching colour
and then attach the piece with invisible stitches.
