felting : "water" and "fire"

For the upcoming Art Market in ZEIST
on the 24th of August
I started with a hew
fish

To make sharp colour edges
is it easiest to work with pre-felt
and the industrial pre-felt is nice and even . . .
BUT, I don't have that many colours of it.

That left me with the problem to lay out my wool tops
in a way that the edges were still sharp,
but where I could, I used the pre-felt

The problem with this is that laying out tops isn't
the same thickness as the pre-felt
So : a bit fiddly !

second side . . .

and making the cut for the mouth
to remove the resist.

The final result was the little video
when my fish was drying in the garden !
(still a bit of stitching to do
to give the final touch for the eyes)

And after "water" came "fire"

A new belt pouch !
Brown for the colour of wood
and on the flap
FIRE !

First the inside colour, then,
the second layer, the colours on the flap
and a sleeve at the back for the belt.

Securing the edge after the cut to remove the resist
and I like to secure things with some (non-felting) stitches

(and I still have a belt to make !)

And again . . . we have sweet house guests

ART MARKET

We will have a wonderful start for September :

ART MARKET

in Baarn
(about 40 artists)

This time daughter accompanies me to help !
It is a first time over there too
and I hope it will be as much fun as the market in Zeist was.

I'm still busy felting right now :
all but one of the little belt pouches are sold
so I hope to take two new ones with me.

A turquoise one
again with a "stone" for closure.

Not quite finished yet :

the belt is still in the making.

If you live somewhere in the neighbourhood
it would be fun if you visit and we can have a chat !

I hope to see you there !

day 28 ... a friends-day

Ahhhhh, how I looked forward to this day
and yes, what I feared that could go "wromg"
........
but what a wonderful day we had
with my blogging-friend Natima and her husband Tom !!!

It was a lot of  sunshine  on a rather gray and cloudy day.
Thanks my dear friends for being such lovely special guests.

We picked them up on Rotterdam Central Station
took the Metro and had some coffee/tea
before we were off
to the windmills in Kinderdijk,
had lunch at our home,
then took the Fast Ferry back to Rotterdam again
and walked around the city
and ended it all in the "Markthal"
this amazing Rotterdam variation on the "Sistine Chapel"
(yes, I know : people in R'dam think BIG !)
They went back by train to Amsterdam
and we went on the boat home.

Boy oh boy, what a marvellous day !
We'll cherish the memory of it !

(Oh yes, then I still had to stitch a bit on my jewel)

Here is

Pink Ribbon  felted jewel 28

a flat square with a double coloured sun,
embroidered with silk and rayon thread
and sequins and beads.
6  cm  (2.3")

Have to show you the lovely presents
Nat and her Man brought to us :

some Greek sunshine in a bottle, a little felted pouch,
some gorgeous pieces of vintage Japanese textiles
and (the best)

a lovely little sewing pouch, handmade by Natima !!!

I was glad I had something to give her in return

"Delft" / indigo  BLUE  and "autumn" / Eucalyptus  ORANGE
(a kind of merger of me and her)

See you tomorrow with my next fe.lted jewel
but :
only three more jewels to go !

traveling ... near by and far away

Today I went to Rotterdam,
by boat as usual.
My hairdresser (a very good one) has his shop there.
At our stop I met four lovely ladies :
from Taiwan !
They had visited the windmills at Kinderdijk on their bikes
and went back to Rotterdam by boat
and then to Delft, to their hotel.
We had a nice chat in English,
one of the ladies (Lin Hsiu Chen or Joyce) was a high school teacher
;-)
I do hope Joyce and her friends have
during the rest of their stay in Holland
a bit more sunshine, than all the rain we had today !

Yesterday I did finish the belt
that went with the little "Judit" bag.
So when it was dry late this afternoon
I could take some pictures.

The making of the two ends didn't go smoothly :
I forgot to thread the cord through the top of the bag first.
Luckily I noticed it after only the first small square,
so I could pull it through.
(uhhhhm : almost did it again with the second end,
a donkey ... etc. )

Front

Back (and the inside of the belt)

Bag, now with a closure

turning ... (out of time)

Ha, we had a birthday girl today :
14
Yippee !
A beautiful number
and when you turn it around ...
there is mum's age
41
(even my age you can turn ...
well, upside down, and nothing happens)

Daughter was very busy this week
designing a drawing
for the handle of her Fire-keeper's pitchfork :
a fire-breathing lizard

Turning and turning to get it on the handle.

Yesterday I finally started on a cord (belt)
to go with the little bag I made in Judit Pócs' workshop
(about a year ago !)
Judit is such an amazing felting artist
and we learned SO much there !!!
But in one way or another
I never came to finish that belt.

Little coloured diamonds growing on the cord

Halfway there ...

Tomorrow I will finish it,
and make a closure for the bag
.....

busy felting

Apart from some minor internet problems
(which are  -more or less-  solved now)
I've been busy felting
not to loose my touch with my newly learned "Judit"-skills !
I have my notes and some pictures
.....
but, I need to practice too !

First I finished the red pendant,
made a necklace out of it : "fire"

Because it was fun, I dicided to start with some embroidery
(also took it with me on my Saturday Stitch'nBitch tour)
But,
in order to finish it properly,
it was on the wet table again ...
(well hadn't thought of thát before ...)
However, I found the perfect solution :

a plastic bag !
So I could easily finish it off now.

Next was felting the little bag
that will be part of a belt.

Still a lot to be done, but this bit is almost finished.

Then I had another idea, when I was thinking about the necklace I called "fire"

Wouldn't it be nice to make "earth", "water" and "air" too ??

Here is "earth" in the making with a fixed cord, and the pendant.

Finished "earth"
(but when it's dry I need to start with the embroidery)

Today I did the last bits on the ring that was already nearly finished when
the weekend with Judit was over.

(maybe a bit posh, but I love the old, old button that was in my stash
from times when I went to Austria with my parents)

So, I made a brooch to go with it
(with the same colours : orange red and magenta
but the picture isn't quite right)

The last thing I want to show is the lovely page I got
from my Challenge - partner Cathrina (UK)

front ...

and back
It was so much fun to see some bits I sent her during the Challenge
were in this piece  ;-)

And this crocheted "coffee pot" filled with flowers
was my gift for her.

(Ahhhh we're just waiting what Sara has in store for us again)

woensdag 18 december 2013

last minute things !

That's what I'm busy doing right now !!

Stitching beads (and safety pins) on flowers.

Sewing on buttons.

Stitching book covers.

Finishing bags :
I thought I'll use a simple method,
but in the end it turns out to be not simple at all  !
(I don't think I will stitch felted bags together ever again)

Stuffing fishes.
("gefillte Fisch")

Man decided to make stained-glass stars.

Though it was extra workload for me,
I stitched them this time on the machine
and Man burned them,
outside :
BRRRRRRRRRRRRR !

I had to make another "beast"
though nót from the sea this time :

Iiiiieeeeeee .... I like him

And today on tóp of all the other things
(I really couldn't help myself)
I made a little (very rare)
"Rainbow bird"

for my lottery at the Christmas Fair
this Friday and Saturday !

;-)

Little grandson had some fun too

(I still need that one from time to time)
