day 27

Yesterday
was a bad-back day !
Stitching soooo many seed beads did the trick ...

I know it's because of my posture while stitching
(and overloading my back during garden work this summer)
but it's SO hard to change this !
I realize I'm lopsided in the chair ever so often
when I'm concentrated on my work
and need to correct it again.

Working at the sewing machine
was a better option for today !

My Pink Ribbon Textile Jewel
for day  27 :

a FEATHER brooch, fabric and felt, free motion machine stitched
with rayon thread.

The ice-blue jewel will look wonderful
on a denim jacket !

For a donation of

€ 10

SOLD  !

(or a bit more)
this magic feather can be yours to wear
or to give away to someone dear.

Just send me an e-mail at
fiberrainbow@gmail.com
(or you can leave a comment down here)

All the donated money goes to Pink Ribbon !

"MAGIC  FEATHER"

Hope to see you again tomorrow with a new textile jewel !

exchange to and fro

In our felting exchange
we had the two "holiday months" July and August
together for one exchange.
You should think that was plenty of time
to accomplish that "big task"
.....

Well, it really was on my to-do-list
(but probably too far at the end)

So then came my wake-up call

a wonderful  red  feather from Karin

presentable on both sides !

THANK YOU, Karin  !

So I went to work at once !!!

to make a "woman"
(Karin's theme)

In fact, I decidede to make only "half a woman"

After the felting, there was some stitching

Here's the little woman, ready to go in the mail ...

... swimming all the way to Nijmegen
to join the other "women" that are already there

;-)

Then I took some more wool

(a lot in fact)
to start a scarrf

And while the scarf was a LOT of gentle rolling,

I started some small things too !

moon faces in the summer garden

I'm planning to make a lot of moons
in my SUN piece.

For the faces I use the old "Jude-method"
the way she showed us in the
Patchwork Beasts class in 2010

Faces are drawn on the very thin base cloth with a fine pen
("sharpie" or whatever, as long as it doesn't bleed too much on the fabric)

one done, one in the making, and two waiting
(the base fabric is an unsuccessful eco-dye on IKEA curtain)

The fun is, to stitch whatever I like

Mmmmmm the weather was SO good today!
So I was stitching in the garden.
Every now and then, a blackbird just brushed past my head :
they have their nest in the Wisteria against the house

Here are two chicks (two eyes) of three,
it's rather overcrowded
and one is already flapping his/her wings !

The three little swans that frequently sitting opposite our garden
are growing nicely

... and grooming just like mom ...

The little feathers floating around :

just like little swans themselves

And later in the day : FUN

playing with water !!!

some sunny days

The last few days have been really sunny autumn days
with a bright blue sky.

The days were also bright in the events they brought :
...

some good news
...

man's quiet but joyful birthday

with presents for new creativity
...

a very nice and very crowded Stitch'n Bitch coming together
...

the very last stitches on the "Feathered Star"

(only the sleeve on the back is still missing)
...

and the follow-up on the stitching plan for a big cloth

I'm using up the little already folded squares,
that were planned for something completely different
that never got any further than pinning them on this piece of plastic.
I'm first making nine patches,
which I think look like stars,
then add bigger squares in between

I want to use them on the red brown ikat fabric
on which I stitched the big moon.
( but that big cloth needs some REAL good thinking
about how to continue ... )

a lovely weekend and ..... a giveaway !

Last weekend we had our grandchildren staying over
( and the cats )
They love all the extra attention,
and doing things together is great fun.
Man found a "Loupe" puzzle in the attic to start with
and I found an "old" package of small origami papers
and a book to work from.
( After a while I knew them by heart again ... )

On the last, very sunny day, I had some canvases,
brushes and acrylic paint.
( I wasn't in the mood to carry down two easels from the attic
so they worked on two little tables ... )

They were very proud

with the results !

It is hard to believe
but true :
one whole year went by since I started this blog

On the first of October 2010
( kind of nervous )
I made the "giant" step  to begin a blog
because otherwise I would terribly miss my new textile friends
from the Patchwork Beasts Class I took with Jude Hill that summer :
I never regretted it !

To celebrate this joyful event I'm stitching ...
on a small
giveaway

To join this giveaway, please leave a comment on this post
( through this weekend )

On monday October 3rd
I will draw the lucky winner
!!!

I know that there are people who read this blog
and never ever leave a comment, because they don't know how ....
I can only say : please try !
If you're not familiar with commenting :
write something,
follow the intructions and pick "anonymous" when asked for a "profile"
and add your name in the text piece
so I will know who you are.
Then I can include you in this fun game !!!

I'm back to stitching :
on a piece I started during the
Sun, moon, stars class from Jude in May
Not finished yet, but it's going fine.

I ripped off some bits and added instead a piece of Jude's
megamendung clouds

From the beginning there was a piece with a feather on it ...

After stitching ( and seeing ) só many beautiful feathers
for Jude's Magic Feather Project
there had to appear more on this "Star" piece

( you'll see the rest when finished )

little man

Remember this little person ?

He was swimming in his soapy pool awhile ago.
It took some time, but he slowly evolved ...

First he was waiting for some decent trousers
( jeans like a real sixties guy )

Then again after some days :

he was patiently waiting for his sweater of true Noro Kuryeon Sock yarn.
.....

"Ooooh my goodness, mam

do you see this ?
I can't go out like thát !
Can't hear a thing
and
   no hair ... "

Finally this morning
( on Feather Friday )
I gladly submitted to his wishes ...

and he could go out all by himself !

I love him, and I think I call him Gabriel
( someone will definately know why )

Before you're asking : is he alone in the house ...

O no, I can assure you .....  he is nót !
( and there are many more )

*

And don't forget, it really was Feather Friday :

the last of  four
ready to fly to the other side of the ocean
( this last one was inspired by the five young swans who are grooming
and taking flying lessons right across our garden )

feathers after the storm

August is rushing to it's end already.

The storm at the US East Coast has blown away
so it's a safe time to think about some more feathers
for Jude's Magic Feather Project.

In the attic I found a paint stained shirt of Man
that I was about to throw away untill I noticed the shirt pocket :
in one corner was the tiniest embroidered horse.

Well thát deserved another life !
Washed, ironed and basted, it was ready to recieve a feather.

 Was that Pegasus perhaps ???

... it might be ...

Then today I prepared two other pieces of my procion dyed fabric

The yellow one (a bit bright perhaps, but Jude probably will find a place for it) got a sun,
the blue one a discharge moon ...
... the feathers are still in the making.
When they're finished they will fly over the ocean to Jude

feather Friday

When I looked at all the gathered feathers
of the Magic Feather Project
I saw that mine arrived safely in New York at last
so

 here is the first

and here is the little extra : a felted one

I love how all these different feathers
are flying in from all over the world to Jude
so she can make them into something special
for the hurt children that Wendy Golden-Levitt
is taking care of as a therapist.
*

Daughter finished her  rose - waistband
it turned out very beautiful

( she looks gorgeous, I think )

a job well-done

the circle of water

Sometimes it's not easy
to start with what you want to do :
yesterday evening I wanted to go on with "Water"

but our house guests for the weekend
were desperate in need of some T L C !
( that's what they wanted to show me I think ... )

Well, after a while I was able to do some stitching.

Today I put the backing on,
and because the actual quilting was already done,
I did so with the tiniest stitches up front, small ones on the back
and the rest went in between the layers
( like Jude taught us )

And now "The Circle of Water" is finished !

( a bit skew, but I think that's more the photo ... )

Some of the details

You might notice I didn't forget my magic thread around the sun part
and the magnificent "megamendung" cloud I got from Jude.
I like how this un-planned piece evolved
into what it is now.
*
Yesterday I also sent my feathers in the mail to Jude
for her Magic Feather Project.
It's worth while to go over there and find out all about it !!!
( others and daughters feather may follow )

flying or not flying, that's the question

Yes !
The feathers are ready for take-off
to fly all the way to New York.

First there was the looking for inspiration and sketching some ideas

( daughter brought some beautiful feathers )
but I could not decide yet.

Then later last night : bleep, the light went on, and I knew what to do!
I started stitching at about 11 pm

and stitched on and on ...
till it was finished !

Then, this morning, I made another one
and put the two of them in an envelope with a little note for Jude.

But :
.....
daughter wants to send a feather of her own, along with mine !
The envelope is still open and waiting for the next feather for Jude.
So she'll have to wait a little bit longer
( ... and so have you all before I show them ... )
*

Later daughter came by to do some felting of her own : a waistband
on which she started a few days ago

... a rose is a rose is a rose ...
When it's finished you will see it.
*

( here she is, showing my  Kaffe "clutch" bag,
I don't know, but think I will make a rather short strap ... )
