ART MARKET tomorrow !
donderdag 15 augustus 2024
felting : "water" and "fire"
For the upcoming Art Market in ZEIST
on the 24th of August
I started with a hew
fish
To make sharp colour edges
is it easiest to work with pre-felt
and the industrial pre-felt is nice and even . . .
BUT, I don't have that many colours of it.
That left me with the problem to lay out my wool tops
in a way that the edges were still sharp,
but where I could, I used the pre-felt
the same thickness as the pre-felt
So : a bit fiddly !
when my fish was drying in the garden !
(still a bit of stitching to do
to give the final touch for the eyes)
And after "water" came "fire"
Brown for the colour of wood
and on the flap :
FIRE !
First the inside colour, then,
the second layer, the colours on the flap
and a sleeve at the back for the belt.
Securing the edge after the cut to remove the resist
and I like to secure things with some (non-felting) stitches
(and I still have a belt to make !)

And again . . . we have sweet house guests
zondag 16 juni 2024
a new bird, dogs and a guest
I've made a lot of birds
since the first little robin
after the workshop of Mandy Pattullo in Stitch Club.
And then along came Ann Smith of Persimmon Stdio Art
(during the fun week of "Making ZEN")
she had this mini workshop making a zipper pouch
with a blackbird on it.
No pouch for me, but the blackbird was a good idea
for the 20 x 20 cm background
that was lying around for a while, with nothing on it.
found some snippets to add and the stitching fun could begin !
that I painted on the edges with matching colours
was something I also did earlier this week for daughter's work.
She made some fabulous pieces for
the handfasting ceremony of some friends.
WE
had a sweet guest to look after for those few days !
so a chair under the table was the preferred spot,
but that lasted only the first day.
(but he can come gladly some other time !)

new stitched work
Not all the workshops in STITCH CLUB \
were for me the last month.
There were some hospital visits
(over again now)
and some books to read
and older SC-work to finish.
Angie Hughes' workshop about "Indian memories"
was the start for a new garden-inspired one instead.
Though I started the way she explained,
in the end I removed all the stiff backing
and didn't use any glue (!)
Stitching it all together was much more to my liking !!!
Detail with the found felt flower
(it never became the brooch that was intended . . .
but now it found it's home here ! )
Hospital-waiting time was great for this small piece,
but it took some time to give it the finishing touch.
Now it's ready to stitch on a painted 20 x 20 cm canvas.
with the Aconites and the Snowdrops)
Even the Rowan tree in front of the house has already
lost its delicate white flowers . . .
because it is a "wild" one, from the forest
the berries will all be eaten by the birds, starting in August !

thread Thursday
Yes, I'm slowly recovering of October :
I missed two workshops
but this last one by Emily Jo Gibbs
I didn't want to miss !!!
I LOVE her delicate "hazy" way she works
and immensely enjoyed the Stitch Challenge last year.
Though I don't have the "needed" silk organza's
I have lots of different colours in synthetic sheers.
They are not as sophisticated as silk, but they do work similarly
and tulle worked fine for the overlay.
Though it's autumn and the trees are bare
I looked at my pictures of the lovely
wild apple tree (Malus) in our garden
that flowers so proudly in spring !
that Bella was with us
it's dedicated to her memory.

BELLA
Today we had to say goodbye
to our very old lady cat friend
BELLA
21 years, 4 months and 4 days
A very respectable age
(surely for a pedigree cat !)
but therefore not less missed !
She was tired and thin in the end
but still enjoyed sitting or napping on your lap
and being part of our family.
Blue Bella and her big brown brother Bagheera
were in fact daughter's cats.
But some circumstances made it better at some point
if they stayed with us,
and as daughter and the kids live in the same village
they still were their cats, but ours too.
In January 2017
we had to say goodbye to Bagheera.
Bella missed him at first very much
but then had the pleasure of finally having all our attention to herself
(because she always had been "second", after her big brother)
Dear little Bella
THANK YOU
for your sweet company
we will all miss you very much !

can you believe it : 21
When you have a pet
you never know in advance
how long you will enjoy its company.
We (kind of) inherited daughter's Burmese cats
(brother and sister)
(still going "strong")
has her 21st birthday today !!!
Well,
she doesn't jump on the kitchen counter anymore
(but I have to lift her up)
to have her drops of water from the tap,
(which is much better than the water in your bowl !!)
she walks slowly and a bit shaky,
but she loves her food
(tells us when it's REALLY time for a bit more,
and asks for her cat treats
when Man comes down in the morning,
she loves to sit on your lap
but thinks her cushion is a fine place too
as long as we place it on the floor in the sun
or even outside.
She is a dear old lady
and all of us hope to have her around still a bit longer
