Color Dare #640 (Due 02/21)

This is my Design Team project for Color Dare #640 and combining it with Sketch Saturday Challenge #769. My first thought using shades of Brown was to create a masculine card and the focal point in the sketch inspired me to include gears and sprockets.  Masculine cards are not my comfort zone; but I was very happy with the result.

I chose a dark brown wood grain design paper for the smaller panel and used a white and brown patterned paper to brighten up the background, bordered both with Mocha cardstock and adhered to the cardbase.

Die cut each of several sprockets in Espresso but didn't like the color against the other browns so cut another set in bronze metallic and layered on the first cut.  My sprockets took the place of the hexagon and hearts in the sketch and were adhered directly to background and the bottom sprocket using 3d thin foam tape for a little dimension.  Finished off with a Sentiment stamped directly on the woodgrain, and added other sprockets on the inside corner of card base.

OOPS:  When I went to post my card in Color Dare's DT Album, other DT members had an additional color in their projects... re-checking the graphic "Shades of Brown + 1 Color".  Decided to do a quick fix and cut more sprockets in a patterned paper that looked like aging bronze/copper using a greenish/blue color and ahered over the bronze/copper sprockets.

Below is my result prior to fix of + one color.

Color Dare #602 - 12th Anniversary Celebration

This is my Design Team project for ColorMyHeart Color Dare #602 "Triple Play" for our 12th Anniversary Celebration. In homage we are doing an updated take on those original colors. While I was looking for a sketch to combine with our color challenge, the CTMH "Just Chicken In" was sitting in my space beckening me to use. When I selected the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #578 there was a floral on the same stamp set which was perfect for this sketch. Even though I wanted to use chicks; just couldn't see chicks in these color... so the chicks will sit there for another challenge and I'll use the floral.

The floral was stamped using Memento black ink on Wisteria (one on dark side and the other on the light side) and another one stamped in Royal. The Royal floral was fussy-cut for the base of the floral. The light Wisteria was fussy-cut for the inner part of the daffodil and the dark Wisteria was fussy-cut for the outer part of the daffodil. The Wisteria pieces were added to Royal floral base with glue and some parts with thin 3-D foam tape for dimension.

Periwinkle is one of my favorite colors. We had a Periwinkle car way back in the 90's because I wanted a purple car. My husband was hesitant; but we purchased it. There were times I would wander around a parking lot looking for my Periwinkle car but in daytime light it was more blue than purple and there weren't remotes at that time to lead you to your car. So... there were difficult times when looking for my car; but it wasn't difficult to choose the background papers in Periwinkle, border them with the Royal and place them as in the sketch on the card base.

The focal point and sentiment frames were cut, one with patterned paper and the other in Royal cardstock, modified using a stitched rectangle frame.

On the inside of the card base the right-hand border was a strip of Royal cardstock, zip strip and another strip of the same background patterned paper.  Please hop on over and join us at Color Dare's Color Board #602 for our 12th Annniversary, check out the Design Teams inspiration and then let us see what you create... hope to see you there.

CAS Cards - Double Trouble Challenge #106 "Less is More"

Double Trouble Challenge #106 "Less is More" is challenging us to create Clean and Simple (CAS) cards and Twisted Sister's optional twist "White + One Color" and if the optional twist is  used it can be  entered at our partner's challenge Use Your Stuff Challenge #444 "White + 1 Color"

This was quite a challenge for me because I love layering and CAS is out of my comfort zone.  However, after viewing a couple You Tube tutorials proved very helpful and I didn't want to stop creating CAS cards.  Of course my first attempt ended up in the trash.

Sending Smiles - Double Trouble Challenge #67 "Off/On/Over the Edge"

This is my Design Team card for Double Trouble Challenge "Off/On/Over the Edge" using Try Stampin' on Tuesday Sketch #476.  The sketch itself shows how you can simply use a doily off the edge or partial stamp on the off the edge circle.  But, I decided to use one of Jennifer McQuire's tutorials veering away from my comfort zone and create something off the edge using stamps and dies.

Off the Edge Die Cutting
Partial Die Cutting
Off the Edge Stamping

Using this Sketch, Feel free to change the orientation... rotate or flip the sketch or use its mirror image.

Many of my cards are done with lots of layers for dimension; but decided to keep my design simple and use stamps directly on the card base using different inks and pens to pull it all together. This card took me longer to create than throwing a lot of layers together; but I was happy with the result... but don't know how soon I will create another one layer CAS card.

Time was taken for cutting out images for masking, coloring and trying to keep within the sketch layout.  Thought I was done until I brought out my clear Wink of Stella.  A design sheet was added to the inside of the card

Hugs - Color Dare #384

Here is my DT card for Color My Heart Color Dare #384 "Greys + 2 Colors of your Choice" (Wisteria and Julep).  Selected a light grey from the Paper Fundamentals (Slate) with a polka-dot design, cut a corner die and a decorative edge, layered this on top of slate cardstock. First layer of the flowers were cut in Wisteria cardstock, top layer was cut with vellum and adhered together with thin foam tape.  Cut the flourish out of Julep cardstock, placed on polka-dot paper, randomly adhered flowers to the flourish for dimension and added a Julep Glitter Jem to the center of each flower.

Something seemed to be missing in the background, thought it needed a little color...die cut the same corner border using both wisteria and julep cardstock, placed alternating colors in some of the diamonds and then adhered with thin foam tape again for dimension.  Cut "Hugs" from an alphabet die set in slate and julep, layered for shadow and glued on side border.

Took some of the left over diamonds and adhered on the edge to the inside of the card.

Please pop over to ColorMyHeart Color Dare and see DT members' inspiration, along with other participants that have entered this challenge. Please join us in this fun color challenge. Color My Heart Color Dare challenges are carried forward for two weeks so if you didn't share your project the first week you still have another week to enter that challenge...current challenges are on the side bar of the blog.
