CAS(E) This Sketch 171

The month of May has started off dull and dreary around here.  We are having lots of rain and the temperatures are chilly -  more like November than May!  Hopefully things will turn around soon and we can progress to warm temperatures and some beautiful sunshine to get those flowers and trees blooming!  And speaking of blooming, my card for this weeks challenge at CAS(E) This Sketch has a little blossom on it!

I went quite literal with the sketch and inked up a new little grungy stamp for the background, added some wee paint splatters, a flower (which took me three tries before I liked what I saw) and a sentiment tucked into one of the folds of the flower.  The colors I got from a recent color challenge but the challenge was closed before I could get this posted - drat!

As you can imagine the cards from the CAS(E) This Sketch design team are amazing so be sure to check them out.  I hope you'll join us in the gallery!

Thanks for stopping by!

colourQ 291

Happy Tuesday!  Today we've got a pretty new palette up at colourQ inspired by these garden stakes.   I thought the colors would be perfect for a sweet little flower with a little grungy background.

I got some further inspiration from the latest CAS(E) This Sketch.  As per my usual, I substituted some stamps for the banner layers in the sketch - some on top, some on bottom.

I added some Wink of Stella to the flower petals but, of course, you can't see that unless you look very closely.  Rest assured, it is there and it looks fantastic!

Thanks so much for stopping by and please pop on over to colourQ and see the fabulous design team creations there.  We love to see you in the gallery

colourQ 286

Hello everybody!  What a busy time I've been having the last few days.  Who knew that Easter would throw me for such a loop and severely curtail my crafty time!  But I'm back today with a brand new palette from colourQ.  This week our palette is inspired by this insulated tote bag.

Am I the only one who loves seeing bold, rich colors at this time of year?  Usually spring time cards are full of soft, pastel colors but those aren't the colors I normally reach for.  So whenever I see a challenge with colors like these I'm in heaven!

For this card I used a brand new stamp set (new to me anyway).  I love the artsy feel of these images and I thought they would be perfect to show off these colors.  I think I was right!

The challenge this week at Just Us Girls is "spring" and since flowers are such a powerful spring time image for me I'm entering this card over there as well.  After the long, snow-filled winter we've had I'm really looking forward to seeing the first buds of spring.  Here's to their imminent arrival!

As usual, our colourQ design team has got some beautiful cards for you this week using our beautiful palette.  So please head on over there to check them out and I hope that you can join us in the gallery this week!

Thanks for stopping by!

Stamps:  3 Flowers (Rubbernecker Stamps); Much Appreciated (SU); Textures 1 (Florileges Design)

Just Us Girls285 GD

For some reason this week at work dragged on forever.  So thank goodness that Saturday is here and I can relax a bit.  I do have to pop in to work on Sunday for a software upgrade but that shouldn't take much time at all.

But for now it's time to share my latest card for Just Us Girls.  This is my third week joining them as a Guest Designer and this week the challenge is to design a project that is black and white and another color of your choosing.  Fun!

Whenever I see a challenge like this I want the third color to be something bright.  I'm particularly fond of how Melon Mambo looks when paired with black and white so I went with that.  I'm also playing along with the sketch from CAS(E) This Sketch.

My coffee stains take the place of the circles in the sketch and I went quite literal with the butterfly.  Although I think that an all black butterfly is a little unusual I really like how it contributes to the bold color scheme.

Well that's it for me.  Thanks so much for stopping by.  And please stop by Just Us Girls and check out the cards from the designers.  I hope you can join us!

Supplies:
Stamps:  Java Spills (Stamping Bella); Live, Love, Laugh & Be Happy (My Creative Time); Textures 2 (Florileges Design)
Paper:  White (Spectrum Noir); Whisper White, Melon Mambo, Basic Black, Vellum (SU)
Ink:  Melon Mambo (SU); Onyx Black (Versafine)
Accessories:  Cheviot Butterfly die, Delaney Butterfly die (Poppystamps); enamel dot (My Mind's Eye); washi tape

colourQ 279

We've got a bold and dramatic color palette for you this week at colourQ based on this vintage print.  The challenge this week is to use red, black and newsprint!

Good thing I keep this old DSP around because I never know when I'm going to need it!  Using newsprint brings out my secret crush on Tim Holtz and makes me want to get messy.  But before I do that my CAS sensibilities slap me upside the head and I manage to restrain myself before I get too carried away.  One of these days I'm going to put the CAS me in the closet and really go crazy!  But today I have to satisfy myself with this toned down card and playing along with the Cardabilities sketch.

I heat embossed the circles in black and the top ones look funky in this picture due to my recent CATastrophic light issues.  To fill up some of the space around them I added a few ink splats then layered my flowers over all that.

The colourQ design team have some beautiful creations for you this week so I hope you'll stop by and admire them.  Then, of course, you should join us in the gallery!

Thanks for stopping by!

Freshly Made Sketches 172

Hello!  Hello!  It's time for a brand new sketch from Freshly Made Sketches!  This week Linda is our hostess.  Don't be scared by the big ol' heart on the sketch because you know that you can use whatever shape you want!

I knew almost right away that I wanted to use a butterfly on my card, but I got the idea to layer it over a tag while I was putting this card together.  And using embossing paste over a chevron stencil for the horizontal layer was a last minute decision too.  Originally I was going to do a little upcycling by using a textured piece of kraft paper that started out in life as a coffee cozy.  Unfortunately it wasn't wide enough so I had to come up with Plan B.  And the colors on my card are from the latest challenge at As You See It.

Thanks for stopping by.  And I hope you can join us at Freshly Made Sketches.  Hop on by to check out the cards made by our fabulous design team!

Supplies:
Stamps:  Group Hugs (Paper Smooches); Jumbo Abstract Art (My Favorite Things); Textures 1 (Florileges Design)

Accessories:  Tag Sale #5 die (Papertrey Ink); Cheviot Butterfly die, Delaney Butterfly die (Poppystamps); Chevron Pattern stencil (Simon Says Stamp); enamel dot (Doodlebug Design); embossing paste, white seam binding ribbon, crochet thread

Hashtag Happy

I love to play along with the sketch challenges at Cardabilities.  The design team make such beautiful cards full of layers and embellishments enough to make me swoon.  And here I come with my CAS designs, I'm sure they don't know what to make of me!  I love the challenge of taking their sketches and adapting it to my style.

For this card I incorporated the colors from Hand Stamped Sentiments along with the Oh Feathers challenge at City Crafters.  I love a challenge where the colors are black, white and a pop of something bright and cheery.

I made a slightly grungy background then added the feathers.  One embossed in white on vellum and the other stamped in hot pink-ish with a smattering of embossed black dots.  I think there are dies to go along with this stamp set, but honestly sometimes I think it's easier to fussy cut them out than to try and line up the stamp and die perfectly.

Well that's it for me today.  Thanks so much for stopping by!

Supplies:
Stamps:  Feather Finery (Papetrey Ink); Textures 1, Textures 2 (Florileges Design); Hashtag (Tim Holtz)
Paper:  Classic White (Flourishes); Basic Black (SU); Vellum (Papertrey Ink)
Accessories:  Blueprints 13 (My Favorite Things); black embossing powder, white embossing powder

Holiday Cheer Tag

I should be concentrating on my Christmas cards since I'll need to get mine addressed and mailed in a few weeks, but I got distracted by the Tag challenge at Addicted to CAS.  So I took the colors and sketch from Viva La Verve and made them into a tag.

I added a bit of falling snow with some embossing paste then layered on some card stock and patterned paper in the layout of the sketch.  The trees were stamped over a couple of grungy background stamps.  I wanted them to have some texture and I didn't have any patterned paper in Cherry Cobbler or Mossy Meadow so I improvised.  My stash of patterned paper is already bursting at the seams and I don't want to add to it!

Thanks for stopping by!

Supplies:
Stamps:  Textures 1, Textures 2 (Florileges Design); Joyous Noel (Verve); Jolly Holiday (The Alley Way Stamps)
Paper:  Kraft (Papertrey Ink); Naturals White (Neenah); Cherry Cobbler, Mossy Meadow (SU)

Accessories:  Pierced Traditional Tags STAX, Pierced Circle STAX (My Favorite Things); Falling Snow stencil (Simon Says Stamp); Antique Brass jumbo eyelet, Crumb Cake seam binding, Cherry Cobbler baker's twine (SU); white embossing paste (Dreamweaver)

Freshly Made Sketches 152

Happy Wednesday!  Time to get ready for a new sketch from your friends at Freshly Made Sketches.  And speaking of friends over there, I'm especially excited to tell you that after spending the last month with Kim Singdahlsen as a guest designer we couldn't bear to see her go so she will be joining us permanently!

This week our sketch is designed by Cindy Hall and it is truly a classic that you will love!   So lets get to it.

The first iteration of this card had me using some embossing paste that I colored with some Crumb Cake ink and a stencil to create the horizontal layer.  But after I let it dry I just wasn't feeling the love, if you know what I mean.  I love to add texture to my cards, which is why I used the embossing paste to begin with, so for the next best thing I grabbed this somewhat loosely woven burlap ribbon.  I got it on Etsy ages ago and I love how it's not perfect and just sort of adds some interesting detail.  I cut it short of the ends of the card so it would look a little more "natural."

Then I had some trouble with with the layer where I stamped the flowers.  There was something missing and I couldn't figure out exactly what so I stamped off a chicken wire image and lightly went over the whole white layer but I still wasn't satisfied.  So I grabbed some black enamel dots.  When in doubt enamel dots or sequins will always save the day!

That's it for me except to say that you should check out the design team inspiration at Freshly Made Sketches then plan to join us in the gallery!

Thanks for stopping by!

You Made Me Smile

Last night I got into my stamp room pretty late and somehow scrounged up enough energy to make a card inspired by the sketch at CAS(E) This Sketch and the colors of the inspiration photo at Just Us Girls.  I was watching television while I made this (sometimes not a good idea) and since it was late by the time I finished I waited until this morning to photograph and post it.  Well I must have been dreaming of this card because in the light of the morning I was prying things apart so that I could re-do parts of it!

It's a glorious day today with the sun shining so I'm headed outside to putter around the garden and then do a little relaxing with a book on the patio.  One thing I discovered since being on vacation this past week is that I can't wait until I retire and I can putter around to my heart's content!

Thanks for stopping by!

Bravo!

I've been busy making some graduation cards for a friend and needed to squeeze one in for my niece too.  I was actually kind of tired of looking at sentiments that proclaimed that the graduate would soon conquer adventures the likes Christopher Columbus had hardly seen.  So I went in a bit of a different direction.

"Bravo" could mean a lot of different things, but in this case it's a celebration of all that my niece has accomplished.  She deserves a hearty congratulatory sentiment and this one sure sums it up!  The colors at The Card Concept merged with the sketch at CAS(E) This Sketch for this one.

Thanks for stopping by!

Ink:  Basic Gray, Daffodil Delight (SU); Pitch Black (Adirondack); Onyx Black (Versafine)

Freshly Made Sketches 137

This week the sketch at Freshly Made Sketches is hosted by little ol' me!  The funny thing is that when I got serious about making my card for this week I had no ideas.  Zero.  Zip.  Nada.  If nothing else, this tells you that I don't design sketches with a card already in mind!  As I sat staring aimlessly at my stash of supplies hoping for divine inspiration I somehow remembered this great DSP I had that my uber talented friend Karren used on her FMS card last week.  From there I made a leap of some sort to a sunflower and my card was born!

I think my using a flower was heavily influenced by the CAS floral challenge this week at The Paper Players and the flower challenge at CASology.  Sometimes I get something in my head and there's just no getting it out!  Luckily this time the inspiration paid off and I created a card that I like lots!

Be sure to check out the beautiful cards the Freshly Made Sketches team have created to inspire you this week.  Then break out your own supplies and join us in the gallery!

Thanks a Million

May the 4th be with you.  * Sorry, couldn't resist *

On to the card.  I was working on this card for a long time in my head yesterday afternoon as I ran errands and did some housework, so you'd think that it would have come together in a snap when I finally got in my stamp room.  Not so...

I've got a rare three-fer here since I made this for the sketch at CAS(E) This Sketch, the colors at Pals Paper Arts and the grunge challenge at Addicted to CAS.  I didn't like how I had the grungy images arranged on the first card I made.  So I grabbed another piece of card stock, but this time around the background images were too dark and the sentiment got lost.  Finally I remembered to stamp off, arranged the images "just so" and sure enough the third time was a charm and I got a card I liked!  By the time I had put it together it was late, my eyes were droopy and I put it aside to photograph and post today.

The sun is shining and I've opened all the windows (finally) to let some beautiful fresh air inside!  My kitties are going nuts running from window to window since they pretty much haven't smelled fresh air since I took them to the vet last November!  Poor things!  My new rolling garden seat arrived and I think I'll put it together so that I can work outside without  killing my back.  I peeked inside the box and there's about a million pieces in there so I hope I can put it together before winter sets in.  :)

Thanks for stopping by!
