It's Thursday so we've got a brand new sketch for you at CAS(E) This Sketch! Those horizontal layers stumped me for a while but eventually I figured something out.
That something was also inspired by the code word at Addicted to CAS. The word is "tweet" and I immediately thought of the hashtags that are used on Twitter for people to tweet their thoughts! So for those stripes on the sketch I chose a blue that is kind of close to the blue that Twitter uses as its logo, then added a fun emoji for the circle. I deviated from the sketch a bit for the hashtag sentiment because it was a little bigger than I wanted and didn't fit in the place on the sketch exactly.
Thanks for stopping by! We love to see you playing along with us at CAS(E) This Sketch so I hope you'll join us in the gallery!

Freshly Made Sketches 254!
Hello Wednesday! It's time for a new sketch from Freshly Made Sketches. This week our hostess is our resident queen of layers Narelle! I always get a big kick out of her sketches because they appear so simple. Everyone knows that she loves to layer it on and every week she shows me how to take a simple layout and kick it up a notch or two with layers, color, and texture.
The color challenge at The Paper Players got me thinking of fall, even though the weather around here has been anything but fall-like. I grabbed some leafy dies and cut out some leaves in the colors of the challenge and arranged them to resemble the circle in the sketch. I even broke out some washi tape I've had for ages that is a dead-ringer for Cajun Craze and used it for one of the vertical layers. The challenge this week at Retro Rubber is "anything goes" so I'm adding this over there as well. At Retro Rubber they challenge us to use stamps that are older than one year on our projects. I was pretty sure that I had the stamps that I used for a while but I was curious about how long I've had them so I checked back on my blog and I first used the slash border image in October of 2013 and the hashtag sentiment (LOVE this set) in April of 2014. I love it when I can take some oldies but goodies from my stash and show them some love!
Thanks for stopping by today and I hope you have some time to check out our latest sketch at Freshly Made Sketches! We'd love to have you play along with us!

Freshly Made Sketches 190
Yay, it's Wednesday! Which, of course, around here means a new sketch from Freshly Made Sketches! This week Amy is our hostess and her sketch gave me some room to show off some fun images.
The oval in the sketch turned out to be this dotted image on my card and since I couldn't let that image go un-adorned I added a butterfly layered with some vellum. The vertical layer on the side was made with a stencil and some translucent embossing paste (love that look)! The colors for my card come from the latest challenge at Sunday Stamps and the challenge this week at Addicted to CAS is butterflies!

colourQ 292
Hello and welcome to my latest addition to colourQ! This week our palette is quite bold and is inspired by this wall art.
How's that for a bold color palette? I took the inspiration colors one step further and used some rays on my card to mimic the rays in the photo. I did the inlaid die technique and substituted Coastal Cabana for the rays of the sun. I also added a slim black border around the focal layers to make them pop a bit more.
The CAS challenge this month at Happy Little Stampers is to use die cuts or punches so I'm going to add this over there too!
As usual our colourQ design team has made some beautiful cards with these colors so be sure to check them out. You won't be sorry! And thanks for stopping by!

A little bit ago I got an email from Nina from Cupcake Inspirations inviting me to be their Surprise Sweetie this week. Since I love playing along with their challenges there was no way I was going to say no!
Ooh boy, I love this color combo! I think the lime green is what gets me. It just makes a fantastic contrast with just about everything! For my card I created a grungy background using the blue and gray shades then topped it off with the beautiful butterfly.
Special thanks to Nina and the Cupcake Inspirations design team for having me along this week. What a treat for me! And thanks for stopping by!

colourQ 269
This week the color palette at colourQ might make you think of fall. Or it might make you think of Christmas. It might make you think of hand-crafted felt items. It made me think of all those things but in the end it inspired me to make a thank you card with an abstract background and a very on-trend social media statement.
The colors are inspired by this Leaf Embroidery Hoop Art and the layout from The Paper Players. Although I was tempted to add a leaf to my card I used a layered star instead. The colors initially made me think of fall but I really didn't want to do the whole autumn leaves thing so I grabbed a new stamp set I got from Ellen Hutson and layered a bunch of the scribbly circle images. Then I overstamped it with the hashtag sentiment from Mama Elephant.
The colourQ design team have knocked it out of the park with the colors this week so be sure to head on over there to check them out! And thanks for stopping by!
Supplies:

Freshly Made Sketches 142
Wednesday's in my house mean a new sketch from Freshly Made Sketches! This week, the supremely talented Jen Brum is our hostess and she has created a sketch that I fell in love with as soon as I saw it!
This is actually the second card that I made for this sketch this week. The first had a misguided attempt at using an artsy paint splash stamp along with some washi tape and I just couldn't wrap my head around it. So I set about creating this card with it's stripey embossing paste which looks better with the floating dots. Much better, I say to myself.
The bright colors come from the latest challenge at Just Us Girls. When I first saw it my thought was to run in the opposite direction, but then I realized that a challenge is called a challenge for a reason and I figured I ought to at least try to play along. In the end I'm glad I did because these bright colors are quite eye catching.
We'd love to see you in the gallery this week so why don't you check out the inspiration from the Freshly Made Sketches design team then join us!
Thanks for stopping by!

Hash Tag Life is Good
I really loved the simplicity of the sketch at CAS(E) This Sketch and thought it would look especially good when paired with the monochromatic challenge at Colour Me. But in order to create what I was envisioning in my head, I had to turn the sketch upside down, something I don't normally do!
I actually tried another image first before going with this billowy outlined flower. But the first image was too chunky and after I popped it up on foam it looked like a giant pimple on the front of my card. Definitely not the look I was going for.
Monochromatic often means simple to me and I wanted to do justice to all the white space on the sketch so I kept the design rather minimal. But to prevent the washi tape from looking lost amid all that space I added a bit of texture with some grungy images stamped behind it. I love how adding random images like that seems to give a card texture.
It's a beautiful day here just in time for Mother's Day. I hope you mothers out there have a wonderful, relaxing day!

MUAH!
I got some new stamping goodies in the mail from Mama Elephant and couldn't wait to ink them up so I teamed up the colors from Color Throwdown and the sketch from CAS(E) This Sketch and put one of these stamps to work.
I learned this technique of doing a heat embossed sentiment over some sponged shapes at an Online Card Class that I took a while back. (I think this is actually called "emboss resist"). Kristina Werner demonstrated this technique and I love how it looks with this big MUAH stamp! In the video accompanying the class, she outlined the sentiment in a gray ink to make it stand out a little bit so I did the same. I was a little nervous doing it, sure that I was going to wreck it, but I'm happy to say that I think it looks pretty good. The effect is subtle, but makes a big difference in how the sentiment looks.
Thanks for stopping by!
