JAI 573: Just Add A Sketch

 Hi!

Welcome back to a new week of Just Add Ink, and a fresh challenge for you to sink your teeth into. This week Jan has designed a sketch for us to work with.

I like this one! The strip down the side adds a little touch of something extra to an already versatile sketch, don't you think? My son, Alex was invited to a birthday party, and so I used the sketch to create a fun card for the birthday boy.

I started with that cheeky strip down the side. I purchased the paper many, many years ago, and this was one of the last strips left from it. I don't have any information about which company made it, sorry! The rest of the card base was Basic Black card, embossed with the Subtle 3DEF folder. I popped it up over the strip of Lego paper.

The little figure was from a Kindred Stamps set, called Building Blocks. I coloured him with my Copic Markers and popped him up over the stamped Number Of Years numbers, finishing with a sentiment from Label Me Bold. Lots of retired products on this card!

I stamped the figure on the inside, but this time I gave him glasses. I did this because Alex wears glasses, but the birthday boy does not. It was probably too subtle a touch for either of them to notice, but it tickled my funny bone!

That's all from me for the new challenge, but please do pop on over to the Just Add Ink blog, where you will find the rest of this week's Design team cards. They've done an amazing job with this sketch! You can also link up your card in our challenge. I can't wait to see what you create.

Everything Is Awesome At Christmas

Hi!

Today's card is one I made for a challenge in the Kindred Stamps Facebook group. The challenge was to use a non-Christmas stamp set to make a Christmas card. The first temptation is to just whack a Santa hat on a person or animal, but I wanted to do something a bit more than that.

I wracked my brain for over a week, and then I just happened to walk past Alex's bedroom as he dug through his loose Lego. Bingo!

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Kindred Stamps, Building Blocks, Star Of Light, Santa's Workshop SDSP, Blends

When my kids were younger they used to make all kinds of shapes out of their Lego bricks, including Christmas trees. I decided to use my Kindred Stamp Building Blocks stamp set to make a Christmas tree.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Kindred Stamps, Building Blocks, Star Of Light, Santa's Workshop SDSP, Blends

I started at the top with the double brick and then masked it before I stamped the larger brick in the second layer. I continued masking and stamping until I had the width I wanted for the tree, finally finishing with a trunk. I then stamped some flowers to represent the star on top and a few baubles.

I couldn't make a Christmas card like this without Santa, so I made one for the inside. I stamped the basic man and then I used the stamp that is a top view of the single brick to create a belt buckle. I just used a marker to add lines to turn it onto a belt. Challenge completed!

JAI #429: Just Add Vellum

Hi!

Let's finish off the week with the newJust Add Ink challenge! This week Di has challenged us to Just Add Vellum to our cards.

My first thought was to use the Graceful Glass Vellum on my card, but then my son, Alex, got invited to a birthday party. I decided to kill tow birds with the one stone and use vellum on the card. As lovely as the Graceful Glass Vellum is, it certainly isn't suitable for a 16th birthday card for a young man!

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Kindred Stamps, Plumber Brothers, Building Blocks, Pick A Pennant, Number Of Years, Large Numbers, Copics

I started by sponging some Frost White Shimmer Paint through a Kindred Stamps stencil onto Poppy Parade cardstock. The stencil featured a scattering of stars of all different sizes. I layered a large vellum circle over the top so that the stars could still be seen.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Kindred Stamps, Plumber Brothers, Building Blocks, Pick A Pennant, Number Of Years, Large Numbers, Copics

The stamp set I used was also a Kindred Stamps set called Plumber Brothers. The party Alex was going to was a go-karting party, so if you know the character, you know why it was perfect for this card! The retired Large Numbers dies and Number Of Years stamps were used for the 16. I wanted the number to be prominent, but not the main element, so I tucked them under the sentiment.

Alex thought the card was fantastic, except I was chastised for colouring the mushroom the 'wrong' colour - apparently the 1UP mushrooms should be green! Oh well - green just didn't work with the rest of the card. I'm pleased to say that the birthday boy (young man!) liked the card too.

You can see what the rest of the team has done with the vellum challenge at the Just Add Ink blog. Will you join in the fun with us this week?

JAI #424: Just Add Texture

Hi!

Hooray for a new Just Add Ink challenge! This week Di has challenged us to add texture to our cards. I toyed with the idea of using the Faux Silk technique on my card, but then a new stamp set arrived in the mail and I just had to use it!

I was lucky enough to be able to purchase a limited edition super themed box from Kindred Stamps that included a stamp set called You're Super. It arrived in the post just before Rob's birthday. He's mad on these super heroes, so it was a no brainer to use them on his card!

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Kindred Stamps, Just Add Ink, You're Super, Building Blocks

To add the texture on my card, I used my Pacific Point reinker to dye some Embossing Paste. I then used a retired mask to apply it to the front of my card. I was worried when I dyed the paste that I'd made it too dark, but it's actually dried lighter! The red zig zag paper was in the super pack from Kindred Stamps.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Kindred Stamps, Just Add Ink, You're Super, Building Blocks

I stamped this patriotic Super Hero on Shimmery White cardstock using Memento ink and then coloured him using my Watercolour Pencils. Of course, I blended with my Wink Of Stella pen. It's a bit redundant using it on Shimmery White, but I love the way it blends the pencil so much that I just have to use it. I used my Pacific Point, Real Red, Calypso Coral, Basic Black and Basic Grey pencils to colour him in.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Kindred Stamps, Just Add Ink, You're Super, Building Blocks

This inside sentiment is from another Kindred Stamps set called Building Blocks. The You're Super set had a sentiment that said 'Have a super birthday', but as I'd used super on the front it felt weird to add it to the inside too.

The Just Add Ink blog is where you'll find the rest of the textural cards made by the Design Team. I wonder what they'll think of to add texture? What are you thinking of? I can't wait to see!

JAI #422: Just Choose Two

Hi!

Time for the new Just Add Ink challenge! This week Rochelle has set the challenge to Just Choose Two.

It's an embossing week! Powder, Folder or Paste - which two will you choose? I went with the Folder and Paste combo.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, The Ink Road, Kindred Stamps, Pitch Please, Building Blocks, Stitched Shapes, Subtle DTIEF, Embossing Paste

I made this card for Ada to give to her school Performing Arts teacher. A few weeks ago she organised a day of concerts to show off all that the kids have been learning with her. It was amazing day and a half of rehearsals and three performances, and the teacher did such a wonderful job of organising. The rapport she has with the kids is an incredible thing to see - they all adore her. I wanted to make the card as special as she is, so I went all out.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, The Ink Road, Kindred Stamps, Pitch Please, Building Blocks, Stitched Shapes, Subtle DTIEF, Embossing Paste

I used a retired SU mask to add some Shimmer Embossing Paste to the card. When it dried, I sponged Berry Burst and Powder Pink ink over the top. It makes me think of a tulle tutu - can you see it?

The stamps I used are from The Ink Road set called Pitch, Please. Can you tell which series of movies it's themed on? LOL - the perfect set for this card! Before I move on, I'll point out that I used the Subtle Embossing Folder on the Berry Burst layer  - it's just hard to photograph!

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, The Ink Road, Kindred Stamps, Pitch Please, Building Blocks, Stitched Shapes, Subtle DTIEF, Embossing Paste

The stamps on the inside are from a Kindred Stamps set called Building Blocks. If you think of a movie from a few years back that had a very catchy song with the word 'awesome' featuring heavily, you will work out the theme of the stamp set. LOL.

That's it from me for this week. You can, as usual, see the rest of the team's cards and link up your own acrd over at the Just Add Ink blog. See you there!

JAI #416: Just Add A Sketch

Hi!

Hooray for school holidays! I've been on the count down for weeks, and now they are here. Two weeks of chilled time home with the kids - I can't wait!

In the meantime, it's time for the new Just Add Ink challenge. This week Patrice has given us this fabulous sketch to work with.

It's so versatile - you could really do anything with that square! I went very literal with the sketch this week, as it suited the theme of my card.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Kindred Stamps, Creative Imaginations, Just Add Ink, Building Blocks, Milestone Moments, Little Numbers Thinlits, Copics

Who doesn't love those colourful plastic building blocks? Until you step on one, that is! My kids are mad on it, but this card was made for a friend who, as you can probably guess, was turning 40. The figure stamp was from a set by Kindred Stamps called Building Blocks. The paper was some I had in my stash by Creative Imaginations.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Kindred Stamps, Creative Imaginations, Just Add Ink, Building Blocks, Milestone Moments, Little Numbers Thinlits, Copics

I had a lot of fun colouring the little man with my Copic markers. Unfortunately I didn't have the correct colours among my Stampin' Blends. It was great practice for trying to show a curve in a shape by using highlight and lowlights. It's hard to see in the yellow head, but you can certainly see it in the top pant of his pants.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Kindred Stamps, Creative Imaginations, Just Add Ink, Building Blocks, Milestone Moments, Little Numbers Thinlits, Copics

Anyone else got a certain song from a movie soundtrack stuck in their heads right now? LOL! Alex used to sing the famous line from it all the time, and it drove me nuts!

Why not pop on over to the Just Add Ink blog, where you can see the gorgeous cards the Design Team have come up with this week? You'll be just as amazed as I was how everyone has interpreted the sketch. What will you do with it? You can link up and join in the challenge on the blog. See you there!
