JAI 566: Just Add A Frame

 Hi!

Thanks for joining me for the new Just Add Ink challenge. This week Jan has challenged us to Add A Frame to our cards.

I never like to do things the expected way, and I remembered a digi stamp I'd purchased ages ago that suits this challenge perfectly. It's very cheeky, but a whole lot of fun! My frame element is a walking frame!

The digi stamp is from Dr Digi and is called Duncan Disorderly. Isn't it funny? I printed him onto cardstock and coloured him with my Copic markers. I enjoyed colouring, but boy, did those studs on his belt and wristband test my eyes! The sentiment is from a Kindred Stamps set, called Rock On.

To create the background, I used my Heffy Doodle Zapp Attack Stencil to add Real Red ink to some Real Red cardstock. Nice and simple, and it doesn't detract from the main image.

I also went simple on the inside, with another sentiment from Rock On. Now I just have to work out who this card might be suitable for! It was my husband's birthday last week, but he didn't seem keen on receiving this card!

That's all from me tonight, but please do jump on over to the Just Add Ink blog. You'll find the rest of this week's Design Team cards there, as well as the Linky for you to add your card to. How will you interpret our challenge?

Bye for now,

Tina

JAI #447: Just Add A Sketch

Hi!

Welcome to another week of Just Add Ink! This week Narelle has designed an awesome sketch for us to use. It's fabulous - certainly open to many different ways to interpret.

I happened to be looking at the sketch as I heard the song 'Purple Rain' on the radio, and so my card was born from that!

I started by brayering some Gorgeous Grape ink over a piece of the retired Shine On SDSP. The card is Kraft with a silver foil pattern, so the purple turned out very differently to how I expected. It's a lot closer to Fresh Fig. Oh well, it's still purple! I embossed a piece of Silver Foil with the Subtle DTIEF. I love how the texture looks a bit like rain, which certainly fits with the theme of my card!

To create the sentiment I pulled out my old typewriter. It took a few goes to get it right, as I typed too fast and I ended up with spaces in the middle of words. I got there in the end! My rock star is from a Kindred Stamps stamp set called Rock On.  He was a fun one to colour! I used my Highland Heather, Basic Grey, Basic Black, Bronze and Ivory Blends to colour him. I also used a silver metallic sharpie to colour his guitar. I wasn't sure about those little triangles on his face - I thought maybe they were his collar, but perhaps it's meant to be facial hair? Anyone know?

I repeated the same elements on the inside. I really love the sparkly black ribbon, and I'm so glad it carried over from the Holiday Catalogue so that I can use it for a bit longer.

That's me done for this week, why not pop on over to the Just Add Ink blog, where you can see the rest of this week's cards? You won't be disappointed!

Bye for now,

Tina

JAI #440: Just Add Something New Blog Hop

Hi!

Yay for the return of Just Add Ink for another year! As always, we are kicking off the new year with a Blog Hop to start our challenges. Blog hops are a circle, start where you like and just keep on hopping until you get back to where you started. You may want to grab a cuppa first! The very lovely Jo's blog is the one before mine, and you'll find the link to the next blog at the end of the post.

Just before Christmas I treated myself to some new stamps from Kindred Stamps. My daughter, Ada is a huge fan of a superstar band that has just had a movie released about the lead singer. Hopefully you get the hint - I'm not allowed to say the names! When Kindred release a stamp set inspired by some iconic rockers, and it included Ada's favourite, I just had to get it. This was the first time it saw ink.

Ada is starting High School this year (I nearly typed next year!!) and so I wanted to make a card for her to let her know I think she's going to have an amazing year, and this set fit the bill. I started by using some Vegas Gold Shimmer Paint to create the spotlights. I just masked horizontally across the top and bottom and then, one at a time, I masked the diagonal lines to create the spots. I wanted the lights to fade out towards the bottom, so I let the sponging taper out. To get the pool of light on the ground, I cut a very thin oval into a post it note and sponged through the opening. The trickiest part was lining it up with the spotlights. I repeated, on a smaller scale, for the tops of the spotlights. I tried using cardstock to make the top of the lights, but it ended up looking like the aliens were trying to beam him up, so I abandoned that idea!

I coloured the singer with my Copic markers and then fussy cut and popped him up using Dimensionals. I definitely need more practice with hair/highlights, but overall I'm pretty happy with how he turned out. I should also mention that I used the same Shimmer Paint to edge the piece of cardstock under the main panel. I like my golds to match, so this was the best way to get the look.

The sentiment on the inside is also from a Kindred Stamps set, but a different set to the one on the front. I thought it was very apt though!

Now you're off to see what the incredible Lou has made with her 'something new'.

What new crafting things have you purchased recently? Don't forget to link your card over at the Just Add Ink blog.

Bye for now,
