JAI 691: Just Add Inspiration

Hi!

Welcome to a new Just Add Ink challenge. This week we have an Inspiration Challenge for you, suggested to us by Kerry.

I love all of the moody blues in the collage, and my eye was drawn by the mandala-like circle on the left. Being the bookworm that I am, I also noticed that two of the images had books in them. There is so much to take from this image!

scissorspapercard, Just Add Ink, Uniquely Creative Read Past Your Bedtime, Waffleflower Layered Books Dies, Stampin' Up! Waves Of The Ocean DSP, Delightfully Detailed Laser Cut Paper, Three Room Studio One More Chapter

I delved into my retired papers for the basis of my card. The DSP is from the Waves Of The Ocean DSP. I chose a section of the paper that had a lot of dark blue, but also had touches of Coastal Cabana at the top. The white layer over the top was from my Delightfully Detailed Laser Cut Paper pack. I popped it all over a Coastal Cabana Card base.

The stamped sentiment is from a Uniquely Creative stamp set, called Read Past Your Bedtime. Great advice, BTW, LOL! I paired it with some die cuts made using my Waffleflower Layered Books Dies.

The stamped sentiment on the inside is from a Three Room Studio stamp set, called One More Chapter. I also used offcuts from the DSP and laser cut paper from the front to decorate the insert. One final book, and the card was finished.

We'd love to see what takes your fancy from the Inspiration photo this week. There's soooo much to zoom in and look at. I'm sure that you'll create something magnificent, and when you do you can add it to the linky over on the Just Add Ink blog. You'll also find the rest of the Design Team's awesome creations on the blog.

JAI 689: Just Add Colour

 Hi!

Thanks for joining me for the new Just Add Ink Challenge. This week we have a Colour Challenge for you, suggested to us by Rochelle.

For some of us, it really was a challenge! The colours are gorgeous, but I struggled so hard with working out what to do. My tried and true method in instances like this is to use mostly white, with little splashes of the other colours. It didn't quite work out that way in the end!

scissorspapercard, Just Add Ink, Waffleflower Book Cover Die, Layered Books Dies, Three Room Studio One More Chapter

I started with a Waffle Flower die, called Book Cover Die. I used it to crop some Tahitian Tide ink... but it looked too plain. I used another Waffle Flower Die set, called Layered Books Die, to crop the Gorgeous Grape book spines. They are slightly larger than the spines in the Book Cover Die, but close enough!

Unfortunately, I couldn't use the layering dies for the pages. I used the Book Cover Die to crop some Whisper White card, which I then hand cut to fit over the Tahitian Tide pages. I think the extra effort was worth it! A sentiment, from Three Room Studio's One More Chapter stamp set, finished off the front nicely.

scissorspapercard, Just Add Ink, Waffleflower Book Cover Die, Layered Books Dies, Three Room Studio One More Chapter

I used a Gold Foil card as the base my card, but the Cover Die covered all of the gold foil edge! SO that I didn't waste it, I simply folded the card inside out and used it on the inside of the card. I used the One More Chapter stamp set and the Layered Book Dies to finish off the card.

We'd love to see what you do with these colours. They give a little bit of a tropical vibe to me. What do you think? You can see how the rest of the Design team used the combo on the Just Add Ink blog. You'll also find our Linky there when you're ready to add your card to the challenge gallery.

JAI 654: Just Add Colour

 Hi!

Thanks for joining me for the new Just Add Ink challenge. This week we have a colour combo for you, suggested to us by Rochelle.

I really love it! The bright colours are a little bit Summery (as I sit here on a miserable rainy day in late Autumn) and a little bit retro. I had some arch dies that I hadn't played with yet, and thought they'd go well with a retro theme. We used to have curtains with an arched pattern when I was a little kid in the late 70's.

scissorspapercard, Just Add Ink, Clearly Besotted Bedtime Story, WaffleFlower Layered Books Dies, Paper Rose Nesting Arches Dies, Stampin' Up! Timber 3DEF

The arched Dies are from Paper Rose, and are called Nesting Arches. I used the largest three to cut cardstock in the challenge colours and then layered them up over some Whisper White cardstock embossed using the Timber 3DEF.

scissorspapercard, Just Add Ink, Clearly Besotted Bedtime Story, WaffleFlower Layered Books Dies, Paper Rose Nesting Arches Dies, Stampin' Up! Timber 3DEF

The sentiment is from a Clearly Besotted stamp set, called Bedtime Story. It has a marvellous range of sentiments, all book-related. Speaking of books, I used my WaffleFlower Layered Books Dies to create the book for the front of my card.

I used the smaller version of the book and another arch and Clearly Besotted sentiment on the inside of my card. I like this sentiment - I definitely do not like being disturbed when I am engrossed in a book!

I realised today that the challenge colours were very similar to the block I just finished sewing in my current quilt. It you remove the pinks, you're just left with lime green, aqua, yellow, black and white.

Isn't it funny how hobbies can sometimes intersect? If you're interested, the quilt is Galaxy by Lilabelle Lane, and is English Paper Pieced using Tula Pink fabrics.

That's all from for now - I'm off to sew the next block in my quilt! Hopefully you're off to check out the Just Add Ink blog for more Design Team inspiration before making your card and adding it to our Linky for the challenge.

JAI 628: Just Add Colour

Hi!

Hooray for Friday and the new Just Add Ink challenge. This week we have a colour challenge for you, suggested to us by Annie.

Isn't it fabulous? I really love the teal/purple combo, and adding pink to the mix is such a great idea. I decided to use some new purchases, the Layered Books Dies from Waffle Flower.

scissorspapercard, Just Add Ink, Clearly Besotted Bedtime Story, WaffleFlower Layered Books Dies

I started by cutting and layering up a whole lot of the books from the dies - as you can see, some are laying flat and others are on their sides. I love that the die set gives so many options - there's even open books. I just used some Basic Black offcuts to create the bookshelf, all popped up on Dimensionals to add to the scene.

scissorspapercard, Just Add Ink, Clearly Besotted Bedtime Story, WaffleFlower Layered Books Dies

I laughed so much at this sentiment, which is from Bedtime Story by Clearly Besotted. Are you a quitter? LOL! I am not - well, I try not to be, but sometimes my drooping eyes late at night defeat me, haha.

I had a few books left over from the front, so they were put to good use on the inside of my card, along with another Bedtime Story sentiment. I definitely agree with this one, too!

What do you think you'll do with these colours? You can see what the Design Team have created using them over on the Just Add Ink blog. You'll also find the link for the challenge on the blog. I can't wait to see what you create!

JAI 609: Just Add Flowers

 Hi!

Welcome back for another Just Add Ink challenge. It really is the best way to start the weekend.

This week, Annie has asked us to add flowers to our cards. I'd be nearly willing to bet that there isn't a stamper without at least one floral stamp in their collection!

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, WaffleFlower, Just Add Ink, Sunflower Love, Simply Said 1, Butterflies & Flowers Layering Decorative Masks, Happy Birthday To You, Floral Card

The flowers on this card are from a WaffleFlower set, called Sunflower Love. The sentiment is also WaffleFlower, called Simply Said 1, and was cropped with the coordinating dies. I coloured the flowers with my Copic Markers.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, WaffleFlower, Just Add Ink, Sunflower Love, Simply Said 1, Butterflies & Flowers Layering Decorative Masks, Happy Birthday To You, Floral Card

To create the background, I used a Blending Brush to apply some Picked Raspberry Distress Oxide ink to the Whisper White cardstock. I then spritzed some water onto the floral background stencil from the Butterflies and Flowers Layering Decorative Masks set, and laid it wet side down on the inked card. After a few seconds, I removed it. The water lifts some of the ink, giving a lovely, subtle look.

I used the same mask on the inside, but this time I brushed the ink through the stencil.

That's all from me for now, but please head on over to the Just Add Ink blog, where you'll find the rest of this week's Design Team cards - you won't want to miss them! You can also link up your card there when you've made your flower card.

Freshly Made Sketches 519

 Hi!

Just a quick post today as I squeeze in at the last minute for the current Freshly Made Sketches challenge.

An interesting sketch indeed! I had coloured some WaffleFlower Tooth Fairy images using Copic markers a while ago, so I decided to use one on my card today.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Freshly Made Sketches, WaffleFlower Tooth Fairy, JJ's Rainbow DSP, Ribbon Of Courage, Copic Markers

The DSP in the background is JJ's Rainbows DSP, cropped with a Stitched Rectangles Die and adhered to a Gold Foil card base.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Freshly Made Sketches, WaffleFlower Tooth Fairy, JJ's Rainbow DSP, Ribbon Of Courage, Copic Markers

Another Stitched Rectangle was used for the sentiment panel. I know the sketch is a square, but the rectangle worked better for me. You can't see in the photo, but the wings, stars, moon and clouds all have a swish of Wink Of Stella. The sentiment is from the retired Ribbon Of Courage stamp set.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Freshly Made Sketches, WaffleFlower Tooth Fairy, JJ's Rainbow DSP, Ribbon Of Courage, Copic Markers

A fairy needs a fairy door, right? I left the inside blank of a sentiment so that the card could be used for a variety of reasons.

Tina

JAI 558: Just Add A Sketch

 Hi!

I feel like I say this every week, but hooray for Friday! It's been another super-busy week and I am looking forward to the long weekend. My two youngest kids have pupil-free days (of course not on the same day!), so it's an extra long weekend for them.

How awesome is this sketch that Kim designed for our challenge this week? All those delicious layers! I decided to have a lot of fun with the layers, by making my background DSP carry across all of the layers on the card.

scissorspapercard, Just Add Ink, Stampin' Up!, Uniquely Creative, WaffleFlower, Sweet Sentiments Builder, Sweet Sentiments Dies, JJ's Rainbows DSP, Layering Circles Dies, Stitched Rectangles Dies

The DSP is from WaffleFlower, and is called JJ's Rainbows. It's so happy and cheerful! I held my breath and carefully cropped the paper using a Stitched Rectangles Die and a Layering Circles Die. I had to be so careful to cut the rectangle straight - I was so nervous! Each layer is matted in Basic Black and popped up using Dimensionals, aligning the stripes with the layer below.

scissorspapercard, Just Add Ink, Stampin' Up!, Uniquely Creative, WaffleFlower, Sweet Sentiments Builder, Sweet Sentiments Dies, JJ's Rainbows DSP, Layering Circles Dies, Stitched Rectangles Dies

The sentiment is from Uniquely Creative, using their coordinating Sweet Sentiments stamps and dies. I found some old Pool Party embossing powder in my stash, and was pleasantly surprised when it still worked. I had planned to use white, but thought I'd give this a go when I found it while reaching for my white powder.

scissorspapercard, Just Add Ink, Stampin' Up!, Uniquely Creative, WaffleFlower, Sweet Sentiments Builder, Sweet Sentiments Dies, JJ's Rainbows DSP, Layering Circles Dies, Stitched Rectangles Dies

The inside uses more of the Sweet Sentiments stamps. It's a 'builder' set, so you can mix and match the stamps to create your own sentiment. I thought the 'magical' bit suited the rainbow on the front. They are a little magical, after all!

That's all from me for now, it's rather cold here, so I'm off to snuggle up somewhere with a good book and a cuppa! Please do pop on over to the Just Add Ink blog, where you'll find the rest of this week's Design team cards. You can also link up your card for our challenge. I can't wait to see what you make!

Bye for now,
