Design of the Week - Banner With Flowers - 7th May 2019

Hello, hello Karen here with this week's free design - Banner with flowers.

As the DT are focussing on makes for weddings, this week, I thought it would look really pretty as part of a place card and so set to work designing one.

I used this design as the basis of my project.

I started by reducing the size of the bracket to 3ins wide, resizing and adding the Banner to the top of the bracket. I also added a 0.05 offset to the banner.
I needed to release the compound path of the bracket so that I could remove the white line. I then removed the flowers and banner and welded the bracket and offset together.

I then replaced the white line, after removing the top section and added some text using Sister Sketch font.

The final step was to cut the banner out from white vinyl and add to the top of the bracket.

Design of the Week - Bunny Ears Props - 16th April 2019

Hello, hello - Karen here with my Wednesday post.  This week the free design is called Bunny Ears Props and I think it is meant to be printed out and sticks added so that you can use them as photo props.  I thought I would add them to a photo of my lovely Kiera as props!

I didn't have any gray or pink card to cut them out so decided to make the design into a print and cut.  I set the cut lines to 'No Cut' and added a 0.05 offset.  I then found a title in my library and decided to make that into a Print and Cut design too.  Again I set the cut lines to 'no cut' added an offset and filled the design with pink.

As I was going to print out the props and title I had a look in my library for a print and cut embellishment to add to my page and chose this one.

I like to have a border on my page and we all know how much I love my sketch pens so chose this bunny card as the basis of my border.

I removed the dotted line and resized it to .75in tall and then replicated it and moved it so that there was a slight overlap, and repeated until I had six groups of rabbits.

I then made them into a compound path and merged them.  I replicated this around all sides of my page, merging them once I was satisfied with their position. Next  this design (x3), was added above and below where I planned on putting my title.

I printed all my elements onto a piece of A4 card and cut them out.

Once everything was prepared I cut a slit around Kiera's head in the photo to enable me to slip the bunny ears behind her head so that she appears to be wearing them.

I then placed the nose onto hers and my 'Funny Bunny' was ready to add to my page.

Design of the Week - Orange Waves - 10th April 2019 - Filling a Title with a Pattern

Hello, hello - Karen here with my usual Wednesday post.  The free design this week is a printable pattern called Orange Waves.

I have to confess that when I first saw this I didn't know what I was going to do but I went on to the Silhouette Design Store to download it and saw one of the suggestions of how to use it was to fill a shape - my idea of filling a title evolved.

I chose this Paige Evans title to use with a photo I took recently of my daughter and her 'fur baby' as I thought it summed her up perfectly.

It is really, really easy to fill a shape with pattern!

First open  your shape - in this case it was my title.

1. Open the Fill Panel
2. Choose Fill Pattern
3. Scroll down to the pattern you wish to use and click on the pattern.

Once you have done this your shape will be filled with the pattern.  I noticed on my one that because the 'o' from TO and the 'o' from HOME are joined the pattern was smaller in those but I don't mind as it gives the title a little extra detail.

Next I opened a new page and resized it to A4 as I only have an A4 printer,

I turned on my registration marks and added the title to this page, gave it a 0.05 offset and resized it so that it fitted inside the red cut lines.

I printed and cut my title.

I then decided that I wanted to write a border with sketch pens and added this design, reduced and replicated around my page.  I chose this one as it fitted nicely with the theme of my page and would translate well to be used with a sketch pen.

Finally I used this design to print and cut some butterflies.  I printed the design out once as it is and once flipped horizontally to give me a verity of butterflies.  I chose the ones that had colours similar to those in my photo and the title.

I hope I have inspired you to try filling shapes as it gives you a lot more scope for the designs you have.
