Back "Home"
I´d like to take you to the town I grew up in, Seesen.
The kids from the Youth Centre created these murals I detected when being forced to take a detour due to road works to my Brother´s shop.
This mural honours William Steinway, he was a businessman and civic leader of New York.
The grand piano?
William was a grandson of Heinrich Engelhard Steinweg, who made pianos in Seesen, later in Braunschweig, where I now live.
One is standing in my familiy´s home, I had to learn to play on it, a real Steinweg.
This man was not honoured (they later named a whole park after him) and he said, "pfff, OK, I go to America and do my job there", maybe you have a Steinway piano?
Well, we certainly don´t have anything big like this!
Just a small piano, but a very rare one, and I really wonder why they didn´t honour the founder but his Grandson here...
To music, sadly I cannot play anymore, can you?
Taking part again in Sami´s COLOURFULWORLD Monday Murals.

GlG, Iris
When I was little, I got piano lessons ... Then it wasn't my passion and now I regret it.
My neighbor can play so beautifully ... sometimes I get real clasik concerts from her ... for free!
Have a nice week, Iris!
Ella, yes, I regret it, also... not enough though, to relearn!
Great you have such a neighbour! A nice week to you, too!
I would love to be able to play piano, but the music just isn't in me, so I'll be happy just to listen. But not classical music, I like "honky-Tonk" piano, like they play in the bars in redneck areas, hillbilly stuff, and also like Elton John's piano playing and Freddie Mercury.
My dad used to play harmonica and piano accordion.
Hillbilly :-)
In Darwin a man thought of us as hillbillies due to our WA-number plate.
I love being a hillbilly :-)
And Freddie Mercury!
Interesting story, Iris
A sad one, too. The man to be honoured is not here...
I agree they should have honoured the founder of the Steinweg pianos, not the grandson who lives in the US.
I learned piano who I was quite small but didn't follow up and wouldn't be able to play. In high school I had guitar lessons, but just a few as well. I don't think I'm musically inclined anyway.
Thanks for contributing Iris
I bought a guitar in a professional shop. They sold me an adult guitar, which was too big. I gave up hence, too.
A professional shop!!!
Thank you for hosting :-) Poor Steinweg. Rotting away in my Brother´s house...
...what a wonderful connection!
Thank you, Tom.
I would not have known those were the roots of the name.
My grandson plays piano beautifully and he got to play on a Steinway last spring at Carnegie Hall. He was so excited!
Well, Seesen is a real small town, William, no worries!

Lois, wow! Nice to hear Steinweg´s pianos are still around, even if called Steinway!
Love those murals, look so great!
Kids can do cool stuff, huh!
What an interesting read. I had music lessons while attending school but life took me into a different direction so now I am just happy listening to music. Those kids are so talented!
Never learn to play to piano. But did learn violin.
Lubię street art i kocham muzykę. Niestety nie umiem grać na pianinie:)
No I never have played the piano Iris, I love music so much but can't play a thing 😊
This is really a delightful mural and interesting background. I didn't realize Steinway had this German history!
Grace, yes, I sadly lost it all!

Jeanie, a sad story, not acknowledging him and later naming a park after him.
Lucyna, my provider sadly mixes up comments, I see yours only now.
Street art sure is (sometimes) wonderful. We have some, though, that are very loud but untalented!
Oh, and though my Mum´s side is from Poland... I don´t speak it - but we still have google translate, so feel free, it´s interesting, too!
