WIPs

So Michael's craft store had a great sale on yarn. I've been eyeing the large needle and large yarns for a while now.   It's a bit more awkward to knit with but works up quickly.
Yarn below I'm making a scarf for my new winter coat this year.

And Vegan updates, I've lost a bit more weight.  Tried Bulgar Wheat for the first time with vegetables and it's delicious.

That's all for an update today.  Happy Weekend all.
Prayers for Paris.

Keep Calm and Keep Warm

I have WIP ADD.  I admit it.  I know many other crafters have this same disease.
Is it curable? Doubt it.  It's just how we roll.
I'm still getting some rows in on the green, blue and white blanket.  I started a scarf in a
stitch my co-worker recommends.  Just knit 2, purl 2 for two rows and then switch for two
rows.  It makes a nice textured surface and an angular pattern.
Then I wanted to stash bust with some chunky yarn so I started this red, white and blue
something.  Maybe a cowl or a scarf.  Anything to aid in keeping warm with our record breaking temperatures here these weeks, wind chills ranging from -30 - 40 degrees C.
I know it's Canada but we're the most southern part and usually the warmest.

I had my ears re-pierced again. I had let my main one close up. Ear piercing isn't as cheap as I remember it.  Of course it depends on the earring you choose.  I'm not extremely sensitive so
I chose this Hello Kitty one.  Yes, I'm a big fan still at my age.

And for cat lovers out there, I saw this cute story.

Happy weekend all!

WIP Wednesday

I finally got around to taking pics of my works in progress. I think the star blanket above is nearly the size I want.  I think it'll be for mom for Christmas.  The neopolitan project on the left will be a shawl. The colours makes me want ice cream.

Poncho (top) is almost done.  The larger it gets the longer the rounds take and that's when the ADD kicks in.  And on the bottom are two cowls on the go.  Most like to sell in Etsy.

This delicious yarn I fell in love with at Michael's. So soft for an acrylic yarn.  I am hoping to make my first cable knit hat for my honey as the colours are masuline.

Well have a good week.

Adjustments

I have started my new job and training is coming along.  I only have brought my crochet with me one day.  I was used to an hour lunch previously but here I only have a half an hour.   Not a lot of time left after you prepare your lunch and eat to crochet.  There is another crocheter at work that I have come across so far.

So far this is my works in progress. A few blankets, shawl and motifs.

Motif making.

I did this quick little sewing project up from Dog Under My Desk tutorial.
Super easy, super quick and super useful.

Have you heard of Lily Bloom bags?  They are super adorable.  I got myself one
recently from E-bay. I have seem the line in one store here but not a style I liked.
They are Eco friendly as they are made of recycled plastic bottles.

The weather has been interesting around here lately.  Mid August, a lot of rain then
cooler spells.  Cooler I don't mind, mid-70's are perfect for me.

Me at a park.

Sky after a storm.

Anyway, have a good weekend all.  Keep Calm and Crochet On.

Summer Joys

Happy weekend all!  It was a long week. I managed to get a few more rows in on my mandala.  I think there is only a few more to go, borders. It's definitely going to need blocking.

I have finished another row on this WIP.  You know one of those projects you set aside.
I was organizing my yarn bin and sat and finished the yellow row while down in my craft area.
It's been harder to focus on crafting, especially sewing when it's so nice out.  The super hot
weather is still to come, which I am not a fan of, so I've enjoyed the perfect 70-80 degree weather
while I can.  Sewing can be for rainy days.

So I did something daring and decided to go shorter in hair style.  It's been over a decade
I've had shoulder length or longer hair.  As men seem to prefer.  With hot weather, no
air conditioning in my car and when you're slightly over weight you tend to get hot
very easily, I decided to do a shorter do.

I forgot to share with you crocheters a fun t-shirt I came across
on the net that I had to order.  It's from Teespring

Last weekend we had a local festival that we went to.  I made a collage pic
from it.  It was again perfect weather for it as well. I got the little green owl
in top corner for my garden.

And lastly, my rose bushes I planted a month ago have bloomed.

Well have a wonderful weekend all!

Keep Calm and Carry On

My mother-in-law passed away yesterday.  She has been in the hospital these last few months and we've been visiting every other day.  She had broken her arm that landed her in the hospital and they discovered her cancer had spread to her bones and lungs.  Super nice woman, kind hearted.  My honey was partly prepared and saddened at the same time.  It's just comforting however to know she can breathe freely again and walk with no pain. I must send my crochet hearts with her.

WIP - too many to count. LOL The baby sweater is coming along.  My first baby garment I've made.  Working on the hood and then will start the trimming in white.

And for a collage of other WIPs.

Left is the start of a poncho with some nice 50% cotton 50% acrylic yarns I found at the thrift store a while back. Top right, start of a granny security blanket. I will attach a character head in middle.  I'm trying to make it for my cousin's boy when she's in town for a visit next month.  Lower right, cotton throw blanket.

I've been practising on holding my hook differently as suggested by a co-worker to maybe help eliminate the movement that is causing my arm troubles.  I've been trying to hold it more like a pencil and twisting the hook more instead of twisting my wrist so much.  I went for my first acupuncture treatment last week and found it has helped already.

Another thing I made last weekend was for the cat.  A simple cat nip bar.
And my one cat loves it.
I got a great picture of all three of them together last week.
Left is the oldest 11 years, middle is the youngest 4 years and right is middle of 10 years.

WIP ADD

How do you know when you have ADD? When you working on a handful of projects, if not more, at a time.  My granny rounds are coming along.  I'm starting the final round before squaring them.

I've been sick these last 4 days so there was lazy boy crochet time with my side kick here.  He loves to sit with me when I'm using my ripple blanket.

On the weekend I pulled out the sewing machine and cut these lovely flannel squares up to start making some quilt blocks I hope to turn into a baby blanket, either to sell or give when I know of someone having a boy. LOL Not bad for my first attempt I thought.  I had You Tube loaded up with tutorials.

The knitted scarf is one skein down and maybe another half or so to go.  Near finished on this baby had.  Just have to dress it up a bit.  And I want to go a bit longer on the Alpaca blend scarf enough to wrap the neck twice.

We've had quite a bit of snow this month.  It's been cold then we had a few nearly 55 degree F days, then back to cold.  No wonder so many people at work and all around are getting sick.  Yesterday I hit the clinic and the doctor said there are a number of viruses going around and gave me a med for my cough.  They said it may cause drowsiness.  I came home, put on Bridget Jones, took a few spoonfuls of the tasty syrup.  Next thing I knew the eyes were heavy and sawed some logs for a few hours.

Hope everyone is staying healthy!

WIP Wednesdays

Happy hump day all.  Nice day out today and I got to leave early from work.  Well actually had to go to the dentist.  That was 4 hours ago now and my mouth is still a bit numb. LOL

So on to my WIP.  Ripple is coming along.  I guess-timate finishing in a month or so.  Just in time for warm weather.  Oh well, it will still be used.

On the weekend I finished a dish cloth.  It will either be for a gift or just to stock for a possible craft fair maybe later in the year.  My honey keeps telling me to make things I can sell at a craft fair.
Another book I had been eyeing for a while arrived today.  200 Crochet blocks by Jan Eaton.  I've been seeing blocks all over blogs lately from this book.  So many designs to choose from to make a nice blanket.

Where to start.  I think I'll use the colours I showed you last post.
I also made this last night for my friend's daughter for her birthday party on the weekend.  Birthday cupcake.  I made a tie and put it through bottom of cupcake so she can tie it on her wrist to wear.

Well happy Wednesday.

WIP Wednesday

It's been a busy week and it's only half over.  I've made some progress on my WIP.  The bed ripple...
As for the table/dresser runner, I mostly work on it on my breaks at work.  Usually get a few rows done a day, give or take. Because the stitch basically makes it double sided in the look, the progress is a bit slower.  You are crocheting the stitches off the hook on one pass and then back on the pass back.  But if you want to make something durable, this is the method, cro-hooking.

I acquired this book this week.  I seen it on Made in K-Town blog where she challenged herself to make each of the motifs illustrated in this book.  As I followed her postings of each motif, I wanted to get it and give these are try.

Also a few weeks back I hit some thrift stores and found a few yarns for $1 for both of these. Not sure what to do with them but I'm sure I'll find something.  Never enough yarn.

I'm joining some other blogs in there linking on WIP Wednesday.  Even though my Wednesday is nearly over.  Here at Simply Crochet. Another at Our Creative Spaces and at Ambassador Crochet.
Check out these blogs.

Happy Leap Day! And RIP Davey Jones.
