Ten28

today my mom and i went to support the opening ceremony of Royston's own film company, Ten28. it was also the launch of his upcoming film, also titled Ten28. very nice snazzy place along Joo Chiat, somewhat typical of an artsy chillout place where ideas flow. reminded me of TBWA. the opening was quite an unusual one, something i'd never really seen before. it was with Taoist rites and lots of shouting for prosperity (Huat ah!) and offerings to the gods (giganto suckling pig). poor Royston was actually not feeling too well, but had to keep up with the ongoings of the event. aye, the stresses of being a celebrity.

the theme of the event was Pink! actually i think the concept of the firm has got something to do with pink. even the walls were painted kind but thankfully it was a snazzy hot pink which was quite cool.

the event started off with some Teochew opera (which i didn't understand). but apparently it's some prosperity opera to usher in prosperity and stuff. starring Nick Shen and Liu Ling Ling. and 2 other random people.
Paparazzi. many many.

the man himself! with the cast of 881. you also see that the girls aren't really that pretty. :( Qi Yiwu was quite eye-candyish though, and all the aunties were taking photos with him. so much so that my cousin and i were like, hmmm walk-away-now-so-embarassing. but he's really dorkish and dweeby. -.- some flower bouquets fell and he was like stoning at them until some other lady had to come and pick them up. -.-

a not so typical cutting of the ribbon. this time it was a nice bunch of balloons with all of them squished under to cut it. so...

off they go! pretty.

apparently Royston had requested for any gifts to be personalised Vodka bottles, which i thought was swell. very very interesting stuff, perfect for display in a place like that.

the chicken was given by Liu Ling Ling (the fat lady in 881). i don't know what's up with the chicken man. is it supposed to symbolize something?

more bottles. :)

rituals and more prayers to the gods.

some speech making. the 2 kids you see there are the leads for his next film (i think)

just about the most awesome thing i saw today. you'd think this is a paper mache right. well, it's a CAKE. (zomggggg).
