Varagu Peas Pulao / Kodo Millet Peas Pulao

You are short on time and want to do a quick one??? Here is the simple, healthy and delicious pulao.. If you are looking for a short grain but prefer the taste of rice.. Try this short grain – Varagu / Kodo Millet.. I made this for my family and they were very pleased and loved it.. Makes perfect for travel and lunchbox…Varagu is a type of short grain that I have been introduced recently.. It looks very much like rice but it is about 1/3 the size.. It is very healthy.. Varagu is a grain that can grow without much baby sitting from the farmers and this can be grown without Pesticides.. This makes it one of the favorite crops of the farmers. I have used polished varagu, you can use the brown one also. Also it tastes very close to rice, so it is very easy to be included in the diet..

Kambu Dosai / Bajra Dosai –Very Healthy Breakfast

We all know that breakfast is an important meal of the day and making it nutrituous is equally important.. I generally feel a lot of the breakfast options are quite healthy like Idli, dosai, upuma etc.. Now the health freaks in us wants to make it even more healthier.. Like really guilt free. I tried this Kambu Dosai and it was delicious and I am sure I will be making this again... I ahve added a lot of veggies to this. Veggies and spices are your choice. Add them according to liking and preference. Make sure to cut them small or grate finely. Also it is better to add the black pepper powder just before making the dosai. The health benefits of Kambu are “helps in lowering cholesterol, helps in maintaining a healthy heart, solves acidity problems, helps with stomach digestion etc” It is a gluten free grain and is very well suited for people with Celiac disease and it is also very rich in fiber..

Thirikadugam Rasam–Medicinal Rasam / Soup

The weather is so cold and chilly outside and all that we would love is comfort food!! What can be more comforting than home made rasam... Thirikadugam includes 3 very important medicinal products – sukku (dry ginger), milagu (black pepper – whole) and thippilli (Indian long pepper).  these 3 medicinal ingredients are known for its capability to cure cold, cough and also provide good digestion. This rasam was quite flavorful, quick, easy and vibrating rasam. I am saying vibrating rasam for a reason.. When I was enjoying this rasam, my tongue started feel a minor vibration (like you will feel with fizz or with mint). I am still having this vibration around 20 minutes after lunch.. So a vibrating rasamSmile.. Also it is said that Sukku should not be consumed during night. So please relish this rasam for lunch!!

Ginger Candy / Crystallized Ginger

Ginger candy is a very interesting tasting sweet which has a lot of flavor and is pretty easy to make. It is a sweet-hot treat. It can also be used in many Chinese or Thai dishes that call for sweet ginger. Ginger candy and ginger drink are made together. This candy is very helpful and a tasty medicine to cure nausea, vomiting and morning sickness. We used this couple of times when we were on the cruise with rough sea and was relieved of the sea sickness in a few minutes. Ginger Candy can be stored in an airtight container for at least a month..
