The wind on Saturday blew down 15 Avocados. The wind stopped but the fruit kept dropping. They fall from way up high and when they hit the ground it sounds like a bomb. I know when they fall from the big THUMP! I heard a thump, and 15 minutes later a second Thump. I could see this from the bedroom window.
I raced outside to retrieve it, to keep the dogs from eating it. Placed it in the trash. Yet another THUMP!
this time it was a whole one with a beady eyed squirrel staring at it from half way down the tree.
Hubby wants to do the squirrels HARM because they chew holes in the fruit making them fall.
I watched with much laughter as a grown man stomped his feet, raised his voice, shooed with his arms up over his head trying to make the dastardly squirrel go away.
SHH don't tell anyone but he actually threw a stick up in the tree, with a near miss of it hitting himself on the head when it came down.
I was hysterical watching from the kitchen window. It was a sight, believe me, and we all KNOW squirrels are here to stay. It is not as though there is only ONE of the little guys.
To protect the squirrels and my hubby from harm, I took the half chewed one back outside and placed it where we found it and said to hubby, maybe he will eat it and leave the others alone.
I returned to my window view and waited and within 60 seconds, he was there. I shot this through the bedroom screen as we watched the little devil devour avocado at an alarming rate of speed.
I carefully slid the door open and he let me walk to with in 5 feet, Madly Snapping, as I am want to do.
Suddenly he stared at the camera and raced up the tree.
There is no happy ending to this story. I continued to hear THUMPS and this morning we picked up what was numbers 23, 24 and 25. We took 15 of them to the YMCA at 5:30 AM and by 6:30 they were gone.
