Yesterday
My throw together left overs supper! YUMMY, now a coffee! Ohhh and Jake ate his too!
I have too many needle holes in my fingers and had to call it quits on block #3 for tonight. See I'm taking part in the MPQ guild's BOM (pattern is a 12" finished size) applique program this year and have chosen to use the newly learnt back basting hand applique technique for my blocks. I had completed blocks #1 and #2 when a friend said to do a step by step pictures. Well I'm not doing all of them, just going to show this one set from start to appliqueing from the back onto the front layers.
1. Trace the reverse side of the 1/4 pattern image onto the back of the fabric, repeat for the other 3 - 1/4s for a whole block.
2. Choose the first background fabric and pin it onto the front extended over the specific imagine line.
3. Using a heavy thread and thick needle baste on that traced line. Turn over and using duck-billed applique scissors, trim to 1/4" from basting.
4. Using fine silk thread and a fine needle, remove a few of the basted stitches, turn under the edge of the basted piece along those needle holes and matching the holes on the backing fabric, applique in place, removing basting stitches as you go.
5. Continue till all background pieces are in place, then move onto the foreground pieces (see block #2).
Today
Finally someone understands! 🤗🤗🤗
Too bad some visitors don't! ☹☹☹

Alan's Celtic Runner
OK I managed to find some Celtic fonts for MS Word to download free and saved myself some tedious printing time and a much nicer label too!
Then after my massage I delivered it to Alan and actually see it on display! Just lovely and yes both Alan and Karen were very pleased with it.
AND to boot Alan walked me through some APPS and key options with my Samsung Galaxy Tab S and gave me some pointers too - a win-win situation for both of us!!!

Another UFO Completed
This project was not started until the fall or early winter as I was away on vacation when Alan gave his retirement notice and basically was gone before I got home from Western Canada. Since he had admired my own Celtic table runner from the red/orange panel I bought while touring Ireland in June 2013, it was a no brainer of what he would like. But this time I asked for his input before ordering the fabric panel from Fabric Freedom which ended up to be one-third the price from the US supplier on EBay and it arrived in 5 days - WOW!!!
So I had a couple of visits with Alan and Karen recording their input of which blocks to use and the layout and his choice of green for the inner border - I was not up to making that decision when Alan is a very meticulous person of varied interests! I wanted this table runner to be his choice so he'd be pleased to display it and remember our working days together. The left over two blocks I made into coasters for his glass coffee table.
I worked on framing the inside blocks with a mottled green and have like a very small piece left over - PHEW. Then went over again with various blues for the outer border and wouldn't you know it the one that we all liked best I did not have enough of!!! So back online trying to figure out where I bought it from and it was like a week before I finally found it at Oma's Quilt Shop! She had 2.2 metres left and I asked for all of it - lucky too as I have like a ten inch strip of it left - it was just enough to use for the backing too! This table runner was specifically measured to fit his side table and was finally finished off this weekend at the Gimli Retreat with the charms Alan ordered himself and the label in Celtic font finished yesterday evening.
I was teasing Alan that I really love this table runner and should keep it for myself. But I won't be that mean - anyways, I have my own red/orange table runner and my left over blocks will be made into a skinny vertical wall hanging to go with the runner.

Ireland Trip
YAHOOIEEEEE!!!! Today I've paid in full for my Ireland bus tour - before the February 5th due date!!! YEAH!!!
Now it's to get confirmation of my flight booked and pay that baby off next week.
THEN to pay off the small IOUs to family and it's saving, saving, saving for my spending money for that trip! I know I'll be bringing home some souvenirs from the areas we'll be touring and naturally the International Quilt Festival - WOW. I'm even thinking of taking one workshop during this even - apparently they supply the sewing machines and there are kits to purchase too - will see! So I wanna make sure I am not "scrimping" after this past 6 months of cutting corners to make this possible. It probably would have been a bit easier or maybe the IOU would not have been necessary if I'd not taken in that newest quilt retreat this fall but what's past is past and I'm doing OK!

Ireland Trip Update
YEAH YEAH YEAH!!! I now have a roommate and not only is she my sister but a very dear friend too!!! I initiated her into quilt retreats a while back on a road trip to Alberta to the Western Retreat. She liked it but wanted to stay closer to home so we've been going to local quilt retreats a few times a year and she LOVES them! NOW she's coming with me to IRELAND and taking in their International Quilt Show there! WOW WEE!!!
It's not too late to have your own Irish quilting experience.
I received this notice from my girlfriend, Dale Anne Potter, of an upcoming trip June 5th-14th, 2013 to IRELAND and it also includes the International Quilt Show of Ireland!!!

OR

This is for a total cost based on double occupancy of $2,535 US (insurance and flight extra).
Now CQing friends don't fret I've not forgotten my trip to Australia/New Zealand, it's just that I can't go for that time length without first retiring. My travel agent suggested going in April/May so it is being delayed to 2014 when I'm finally free of my job. The above trip is only 2-3 weeks vacation time which will include visiting with my Irish girlfriend in Toronto afterwards! YEAH two trips at once.

IRELAND - June 5th-14th, 2013
I’m so excited that I just can’t believe my good fortune on actually having one of my “grade school” dreams coming true!!!
I received this notice from my girlfriend, Dale Anne Potter, of an upcoming trip June 5th-14th, 2013 to IRELAND and it also includes the International Quilt Show of Ireland!!! NOW what I am hoping with this BLOG entry is possibly someone in one of the online groups I belong to is also going at this time and looking for a roommate to avoid the $1,000 US single occupancy charge. See I truly cannot go on this trip without a roommate. So anyone out there if you are interested in this specific tour, please contact me (females only naturally) or register from the links provided below and also ensure you ask for Dale Anne Potter as your tour guide.
or
Here is what I’ve chosen for my June 5th-14th, 2013 ten day Tour of Ireland:
This is for a total cost based on double occupancy of $2,535 US which does not include your airfare there or return home. So anyone game and willing to share with me (females only naturally). Thank you very much.
