Aug 2nd - Rushing River

If it wasn't for the fact I love my friend Janice Palmer and nature in all it's glory, I probably would not endure her driving hikes!  First hike of the day at the Lower Rapids across from the park entrance.

After this section and before the highway we had to circumvent the collapsed bridge over rough terrain - just about my undoing.

I LOVE these and glad I finally got one closer up.

The bottom two are of the Lower Rapids but for some reason my phone split it into two.

This trail I've not been on for over 10 years but only the Beaver Pond - not the Granite Knoll Trail which was marked difficult!

Beautiful scenery in the Canadian Shield!

Here we set a spell and had some healthy snacks.   It was so peaceful - just the sounds of nature around us.

Even the marshy areas too!

The Rushing River Inukshuk Village.

Yes very difficult and at least five times just about tripped over roots or rocks - twice would have been face plants into rock!

After our just about 2-hr relaxation in the water again with my new toy, I finally crawled out and we headed for our picnic.

Our table was right here!

We stopped at the Brewers Inn and Bakery for coffee to revive us for the return trip.

OMGG maybe I should have read this BEFORE starting the day!

Aug 02, 2018 - Excitement rises within you today like bubbles in a glass of champagne. Your spirits are high, even if there's nothing particularly exciting on your agenda. You just have a sense of 'joie de vivre' today -- the joy of life. If you can channel this energy into a specific project, you stand to make great gains now. But even if you don't, you should enjoy a delightfully spirited day.

Kenora Bound Again!

Aug 1st

We made it here with the sun shining.

Awesome stop at the Farmers Market then an even more awesome hike the A Bison Trail of the Tunnels Trails.

The bottom two were walking to and from the Farmers Market to the car.  The top two were on our hike on the Tunnels Trail.

Here at Pansy Manitoba at their famous Ukrainian smorg - just to die for.  Thank goodness we did the 7.4 km walk at Sandilands Prov Park beforehand.  Oh my here I thought I might just need new inserts in my barely year old Columbia walkers but nope today I've worn out the right back and given myself a blister mid-trail.  Ouchie!  Good thing I've just bought new Merrill's walkers - guess I'll break them in on short walks this week.  On tge way back to Steinbach for iced coffees for the last leg back before home and rest!!!

My plate - didn't get the few desserts I got.
Bad girl!!!

Edna and her plate.
No wonder she stays so slim!

Monday - Aug. 21st - PPF - Pinawa Hike

Well after a late start Edna and I finally got to Pinawa just as the Pathfinders (57 signed up) were getting ready to go on the hike in the steady rain.  Oooopsie just about forgot to mention before we drove into Pinawa on Hwy 211 east last year's black bear cub ran across the road.  WOW!  I used the toe protector and took an Alieve upon start and did pretty good walking with this toe.  Near the beginning of the trail I slipped on the wet rocks and needed a hand to get back up but no injuries thank goodness.  OH and totally overcast with rain so no solar eclipse for us!  Around the 8 Km mark my toe and both knees started burning and aching.  It was a beautiful walk (11.2 km in 2 hr 18 min at 4.8 km/hr) even if it was wet.  Then back to the Golf Course for our buffet lunch of soup sandwiches salad and dessert!  Yummy!  Then our Pinawa guide gave a slide presentation of their 2 month camping  tour of South Africa.  WOW!!!!

Apparently in winter families came out here to skate and picnic.   WOW!

OK here goes I'm going over on it!

I did it and this was the BESTEST one I've been on!

Edna and I have been waiting for this trip for years - I was not missing it because of a sore toe!

One of many signs on the trail.

Awesome!

Beautiful!

WOW!

July 4th - Keewatin - cont'd 2

OK after a veggie hummus n bouratz cheese n crackers snack the sun came out a heated up about 4ish and I challenged myself to paddle board for the first time.  I fell off before even starting off and that's with Edna's help.  BUT I DID IT - shaking but didn't wipe out.  Just sat down and slowly got up again and headed back to shore.  My legs are still JELLO!!!

OK this isn't too bad as we've food on the BBQ prepared by lamplight.  Sockeye salmon with lemons and asparagus in foil.  Stirfry veggies with added asparagus grape tomatoes zucchini and brown mushrooms.  And sweet potato fries.  All BBQing.  And dining inside with candlelight.   Oh and BBQd Smores for dessert.  What a heck of a STORM out there!!!!  Hmmm how to get the food now???

Like two hours after the drenching Tstorm Janice and Loralie are out on the calm lake in the canoe while Edna and I are on the lake deck reading.   It's so peaceful here.  I gotta come back again!

What a beautiful day even with TWO Tstorms,  couple of falls and burning my fingers to the BBQ pan.  Awesome natural beauty and friendships!  Lots to be thankful for!  Wonder what tomorrow will bring in Rushing River's playground!
