Swans in Richmond.

A few swans at Richmond Tasmania, Australia.
These swans were rather tame.  The bridge is still used and was built by convicts in 1823.
The big tree in the last photo turns colour in the autumn, we were there this autumn but too early for the colour change.

Richmond, Tasmania

After 2 weeks in Huonville we headed to Richmond see map for two nights.  The town of Richmond is not that far from our Capital City Hobart.

Photos show the  Richmond Bridge and the view from the top of it to each side. Bridge built about 1823 to 1825.

Richmond, Tasmania

That's 'him' waiting patiently for me whilst I walk over the old bridge to take photos. Certainly no place for caravan parking.

Oldest stone span bridge in Australia built by convicts the foundation stone was laid in 1823, bridge finished 1825. I've shown pictures of the bridge before but never shown these from 2015.

Richmond Churches, Tasmania.

On Easter Saturday at Richmond, Tasmania we decided to visit two Churches.
First is St. John's Catholic Church which was built in 1836 and is regarded as being the oldest Catholic Church in Australia.
There is a school attached to the Church both being near the Richmond Bridge.

The photo directly below is of the doorway to the Richmond Goal which I covered extensively in 4 posts in June 2016.

St. Luke's Anglican Church below which was built in 1834 so being older than the Catholic Church in Richmond.

These boxes are attached to the pillars being very visible on the way out the Church.

Richmond Bridge, Tasmania

Richmond in Tasmania is to me such a pretty town especially in autumn.  It's one of the nicest towns in Australia in my opinion.
Richmond is small with about 990 people.
The town is about 25km from Hobart in the Coal River region, between the Midlands Highway and Tasman Highway.
The famous landmark is the Richmond Bridge, built in 1823 to 1825 around the time of the town's first settlement.

The bridge is just a stone's throw from the shopping center so it's a nice walk or one can go by car and park near the bridge.

The Header photo is of the Richmond Bridge.

Photos are of the bridge from one side to the other and from top one side to the other.

Richmond, Tasmania

These photos were taken at Easter time when we travelled with our eldest son, his wife and their two little ones to Richmond.
We stayed for 4 nights and yes I cooked a baked dinner in our caravan for all of us on Easter Sunday.

The below photos were taken at the Richmond Caravan Park where we were the only two families in this particular area of the park..

Eldest son has a different caravan to us therefore no shower or loo.   Instead of taking themselves off to the showers and loos provided in the park he decided to bring his own.  They also have a small tent that house the both, handy when you have little ones.

In the photo my husband, eldest son and wife are trying to work out the gas hot water - they did so, all was good with his family having lovely hot showers.
This son is a qualified Horticulturist/Landscaper and has his own business using his own name for several years now.

Their little dog, a Poochon named Summer.  Summer came from Melbourne last year as a puppy.  So she flew into Tasmania :) and belongs to the little ones.
Summer has a delightful temperament and never barks.

Back to Richmond Gaol...the second last post about it.
This video goes for a couple of minutes and is worth viewing as it has information about the inside of the Richmond Gaol.
Plus there are photos which I took.

The cat of nine tails was used every second morning for flogging.

Richmond Gaol, Tasmania, Australia.

Recently we visited Richmond and the Richmond Gaol.
More to come in next post.

The Richmond Gaol is a convict era building and tourist attraction in Richmond, Tasmania, and is the oldest intact gaol in Australia. Building of the gaol commenced in 1825, and predates the establishment of the penal colony at Port Arthur in 1833.

Richmond gaol has much history, some of it [ here ]
