The sea

Some photos that I forgot to post back in mid spring taken on one of our drives.
These photos were taken at a rest area near Wynyard along the north west coast of the Island.  We bought lunch and sat on this seat, watched the little yachts doing their races, we looked towards Tablecape where the Tulips are grown.
The sea is Bass Strait.

Darwin, NT

Darwin in the Northern Territory (NT) down by the sea in the tropics of Australia.

The first photo is of the War Memorial.  2nd is of the Wharf in the distance with the flower Bougainvillea in the foreground. 3rd is of Government House and the 4th of the garden outside the fence. Government House in Darwin was built to let the sea breeze flow through with a lot of shutters seen on the ground floor.

The trees above around a Government building, then canoes and a lot of yachts, on our last visit to this area in Darwin not so many plus the eating houses were no more, just one or two shops were open, totally different .

The photo is of one of the beach areas looking towards Beagle Gulf/Timor Sea.

Boats on the Huon River

One of the days we travelled down the Huon River just for a drive and I didn't take my Camera so used my phone to take these shots.

The Huon River, Tasmania

The Huon River is a perennial river located in the south west and south east regions of Tasmania, Australia.  It's 174 km  (108 mile) in length, it's the 5th longest river in the State. The river empties into the D'Entrecasteaux Channel before flowing into the Tasman Sea.
Wikipedia
We followed the Huon River then it came to the D'Entrecasteaux Channel where you catch the boat to Bruny Island one of Tasmania's Islands.
At Kettering is a Marina and just *north of Kettering in Oyster Cove that the last Tasmanian Aboriginal settlement was established in 1847.  Aborigines from all over Van Diemen's Land had been rounded up some years earlier and isolated on Flinders Island (up north of Tasmania and also one of Tasmania's Island).  In 1855 there were only 16 people left and by 1869 only Truganini remained.  She died in 1876 but it was not until 1976 that her ashes were thrown in the winds on the D'Entrecasteaux Channel.*

Huon River, Huonville, Tasmania.

The Huonville River is 174km long.  Looking on the map of Tasmania the river doesn't look long at all.
The mouth of the river is the Tasman Sea and I traced the Huon River to Lake Pedder in the South Western area of Tasmania.
A post last March with photos of Lake Pedder is [here]

So the day after we arrived in Huonville we headed off following a road we had never been on along the Huon River.  We didn't finished the drive because it was too late in the afternoon - a map below shows the 'teadrop' road we didn't finish.
The photos were taken not far from the town of Huonville.

Franklin, Tasmania

Came through Franklin on our way back to Huonville after the daily drive south.
Franklin is a small village on the western side of the Huon River in the south-east of Tasmania, between Huonville and Geeveston.

There are a couple of Island between the two shores, Egg Islands.

On the way into Hobart Tasmania's Capital City in the south.

We are on our way home to the north of the Island.

Black and White in Bowen, Queensland.

First evening in Bowen in Queensland we headed to a Marina, it was a lovely still evening so we sat on a seat and watch the sun go down.

Have a few photos in colour and black and white - a vast difference.

A different look at Mackay, Queensland.

A different look at Mackay on the way down south.  We did stop at this city on the way further up north.  Link [here ]

Along the waterfront, and me.

Onward and Upwards.

Continuing on our journey in early July 2016 we went from Goomeri to Rockhampton then to Mackay for two nights thinking that we may stay longer on our way back down south.
There is always an urgency to drive to the north 'the destination Cairns' as quickly as possible with stay overs for a few nights when in the warmer climate.
We had pasted the Tropic of Capricorn at Rockhampton, Qld.

The internet available on the way to Mackay was almost non existent in some towns in the caravan parks.  Even in Mackay at the park it wasn't good, they didn't have the NBN (National Broadband Network).   Many people didn't know what NBN was and that was for all of the area we travelled north and south.
As for Telstra Air!  Where are those?  Hardly find a phone box, and if we did they are in the middle of the city few and far between with no parking - so we can forget the idea.  Glad I didn't join that now.
Most Australians reading this will know what I mean.

This pretty plant was hanging over the fence at the caravan park in Mackay.

Part of the Marina in Mackay, Qld.  If you can see a brick wall to the right, that goes for some distance with the sea on the other side.

Further along the drive (the brick wall) is an opening to the sea. A yacht on the way back to the marina.

Many people take their dogs for a walk along this area 'convenient bags' - we don't often see this.

The main beach which is opposite the marina and it's here that the annual Beach Horse Races were held on our return journey.

The lighthouse which I posted whilst on holiday, it's down by the marina.
