Dante Auckland COVID-19 UPDATE: Cancellations of Italian Classes

Children: the Dante school is closed, for homework stay at home and draw many rainbows, like the one you did at the Dante with the teachers. A virtual hug to all! 😊

Dear Students and friends

Due to Council restrictions on the use of public facilities, and the increasing spread of Covid-19 in Auckland and New Zealand, from this week until further notice there will be no more classes in Freemans Bay Community Centre. Online lessons will be available for adult classes only from next week.

All children’s classes, colazione and other events are also cancelled until further notice.

Please keep safe and await your instructions from your teacher or Dante staff member.

We are taking these measures in line with government recommendations, and will work with you to keep the activities and spirit of the Dante going through these challenging times.

Un abbraccio virtuale a tutti,

The program presents a selection of works made in Turin at the animation film course of Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia-National Film School:
The three year animation program of CSC was established in Turin in 2001, with the support of the  Piedmont Region.  Since then, it has been an important point of convergence in Italy for young people who look at animation, in its variety of application, as their mean of expression and their artistic and professional career

Sicily, 1930. The task of a " Pircantaturi ", a character  now long gone, was to lurk outside the house of an insolvent debtor: its silent and continuous presence in front of a door was enough to label the victim as a man without honor: a real social delation, a denigration against the debtor and his entire family.  It was a bad day when the “pircantaturi” appeared in front of the house of Pino and his ruthless wife....

What the heck the clerk of a public office is doing, when she disappears for hours behind the counter with your urgent document in her hands?  In a typical public office a customer waits for the approval of his document, but for the clerk to get it stamped will not be an easy task indeed.  A look at bureaucracy from a different angle.

The Age of Rust
Regia/direction: Francesco Aber e Alessandro Mattei
Musica/Music: Fulvio Chiara

Dialogo/Dialogues: v.o. Italiano / v.o. English; Durata/Lenght: 7'17” ; Anno/Year: 2014

Dialogo/Dialogues: italiano; Sottotitoli/Subtitles: English; Durata/Lenght: 7'14”; Anno/Year: 2013
In two personal episodes  (Like mother like daughter  and Mommy Triceratops) the authors tell us, with humor and tenderness,  about their mothers and the weight of their indisputable legacy.

La danza del piccolo ragno (Dance of the little spider)
Regia /direction:  Giacinto Compagnone, Aurora Febo, Lucia Rotelli, Emma Vasile,

Dialoghi/Dialogues: no; Durata/Lenght: 5'40”; Anno/Year: 2012
The Dance of the Taranta is part of an ancient ritual of southern Italy, particularly Apulia. The belief is that only that ritual of music and dance will heal the victims of the Taranta spider’s bite.

Il Naturalista  (The Naturalist)
Regia /direction: Giulia Barbera, Gianluca Lo Presti, Federico Parodi, Michele Tozzi
Musica/Music: Davide Incorvaia
Tecnica/Technique: 2d, stop motion animation
Dialogo/Dialogues: no; Durata/Lenght: 4'30”; Anno/Year:  2008
ll “naturalista” vive in città.
The naturalist lives in the city. Whenever he can he jumps into his car and drives out into the country to relax amid the fields and hills, to play his flute and perhaps catch a glimpse of some attractive little animal. But loving and enjoying nature is not as easy as we think.

La fiera dei morti  (The deadmen's fair)
Regia/direction:  Francesco Vecchi, Barbara Dossi
Voce/Voice (Italian): Paolo Poli
Voce/Voice (English): John De Leo
Tecnica/Technique: 2d digital animation
Dialogo/Dialogues: v.o italiano / ov English; Durata/Lenght: 7'50”; Anno/Year: 2004
Based on the poem of the same title published by Aldo Palazzeschi in 1910, this film is a visual representation at once poetic and absurd, vulgar and refined. The viewer is drawn into the paradoxical atmosphere of a village fair held in a rural cemetery.

CineclubDante class - 26 March

Dear members,
we would like to remind you of our cineclub class. This month we celebrate the Oscar winning film "La grande bellezza" watching another great Italian movie that won three Oscars and broke the box-office record for profits by a foreign film in the American market: La vita è bella (Life is Beautiful) directed by Roberto Benigni in 1997. Wednesday  26th of March at 1.30pm - Dante's room - in Freeman's Bay Community Centre.

Roberto Benigni plays Guido, a Jewish book seller in the Tuscan city of Arezzo in 1939.
Whit the beginning of the World War II, he and his family have to cope with racial laws against Jews that Mussolini's regime had passed.
Soon the family are placed into a concentration camp and the mood of the film changes abruptly.
Roberto Benigni, as a kind of modern Chaplin, does something really special in this film:
to protect his son, he turns the horrors of the camp into a child's fable, a fabulous world of play, inhabited at least by one benign clown.

This is a language class, a fascinating way to improve your Italian watching and talking about the most beautiful movies of il Cinema Italiano.
There is no need to book for this class – just turn up to watch and discuss the film with Flavia Berucci.

CineclubDante class - 26 March - 1.30pm - Freeman's Bay Community Centre.

FELLINI'S "NIGHTS OF CABIRIA".

Ciao a tutti,

We’d like to remind you of our “CineClubDante” class, which will take place Thursday the 14th at 1.30pm at Dante’s.
After “Miracolo a Milano” and “Ieri oggi e domani”, we will this time watch and talk about Fellini’s “Nights of Cabiria”, a 1957 romantic drama which won many awards, including a Oscar Best Foreign Language Film in 1958.
Come and watch the movie, and talk about it with our teacher Matteo Telara.
Based on a story by Fellini, the film is about a waifish prostitute (Giulietta Masina, Fellini’s wife and muse) who wanders the streets of Rome looking for true love but finds only heartbreak.

This is a language class, a fascinating way to improve your language skills through the history of Italian Cinema, from the Neorealismo’s masterpieces to today.
Please let us know if you will come, so that we can arrange the room.

$5 for students
$10 for everybody else.
Coffee included.

Ci vediamo giovedì 14 alle 1.30pm.
