Still the best way to look at the city

A little boat with some friends still possible these days. (Header still nice to walk around.)

Behind our house in Almere.

Still occupied. Yes, the housing shortage is getting worse.

Help

What to photograph. It could make you feel discouraged. One for James Weekend Street/Reflections here.

Sail 2

Sky watch via the rigging of the B.A.P “Union”.  With a length of 99.04 m and a mast height of 46.45 m, this sailing four-masted ship of the Peruvian navy is the largest of the sailing ships present as a sail training ship. With a crew of 150, it trains 80 midshipmen. One for Skywatch Friday here.

Another rigging Sky Watch trough the rigging of a Spanish galleon.

Already training for Sail 2025?

August 20-24: Sail Amsterdam, also celebrating the city's 750th anniversary. Just gotta make sure it doesn't get swamped in this nutshell by the bigger ones.

Boat Watching

Well what all goes through the canals is very different. Wasn't aware that with a supboard you can also take a passenger and some boats are actually too wide-shouldered for the canals especially if you are only in it by yourself. But 15 minutes on the shore and you are back up to date in the latest boating fashion.

Canal jam

On a hot day like yesterday during vacation time, traffic jams on the water develop that are not inferior to traffic on the road. Despite measures promulgated by the municipality that has established one-way traffic for boats through the canals, enforcement is still somewhat lacking. (Header: If you want to cool off, trees and water are the best place to be, like here on the former navy area at the Y).

Passant Harbor

There are always water tourists who want to stay overnight this summer in Almere. Well you can do that in our transient marina.  (Header the Prince Hendrik Quay in Amsterdam seen from the top floor of the public library.)

Following a boat

Instead of a 28mm wide-angle I use a 70-300mm zoom lens, following Stefan Jansson's blog Photos from Haninge, Stockholm and Södertörn. No hip shots but it gives a nice picture of the city and what is happening. Here a rather noisy company outing passed under the Keizersgracht/Reguliersgracht bridge.

The tourist season is upon us again.

Seems that in this business quite a bit of money is made and the liquor served on some of the boats is really something special. Not my idea for a roundtrip on the water.

Not only an excess of bicycles

but also to boats as here on Java Island.

No good idea

To keep your boat in the water in winter. Our local canal in the neighborhood. That's going to be quite a job.

Nice job

Just refurbishing please.

Seen in the harbour of Muiden a few years ago.

This one does need major refurbishment. (From the archive)
