Because the ground in Almere is still settling, problems with the sewage system arise all the time, such as here under the bus lane near our house. Wells are subsiding and pipes are breaking off. You have to put up with that if you are building on land that was water 57 years ago.

Maintenance
Amsterdam is currently one big construction site. Driving a car is almost impossible or possible only if you are willing to wait a long time for the many detours and hours needed to find a parking space. Here the situation in the Marnix street last week.

Amsterdam today (photo of bridge pre-covid)
This bridge (the Staalmeesters bridge) is now on the point of collapsing with its surrounding quays. Immediately closed to all traffic and that means quite a detour for residents . Soon there will be an emergency bridge for cyclists and pedestrians but good maintenance is a prerequisite to prevent this. Here you can see the emergency measures taken . Photo made by Thomas Slijper.

There is still a lot to do.
With bridges collapsing and quay walls threatening to collapse. For Amsterdam, this means years of poor accessibility and disruption of traffic in the city centre and beyond. Not to mention the cost.

The sign of death
This little dot means the end of the tree in front of our house.
40 years of growth ends within 15 minutes
in the shredder. One for signs, signs here.

or Amsterdam
and in between of course. One for Our World Tuesday here.
