 It was quite busy with 750 market stalls.

And to think that in all the years I've been walking around Amsterdam, this was only my second time there.

I usually go to the daily flea market on Waterlooplein (except Sundays), 300 meters from where I was born.

This market is held once a month on an old harbor site, but only on weekends.

You have to like it.

However, it is well worth the effort.

Amsterdam's city hall has undergone a complete renovation, and a first floor is being added to the surrounding flea market. To hide the construction, a fence displaying photos of the old market from the 1950s and 1960s has been erected. The photos show the old Jewish quarter, which was largely destroyed during World War II and lost many of its residents.  In the context of Amsterdam's 750th anniversary, all of this should be festively opened soon. Have you wondered what will happen to all the functions and officials that used to be there? Marriage, driver's license, and passport applications, to name a few. It's amusing to think of a city hall housing a flea market. We shall see.

Had gone to a big flea market along the Y on Sunday with nice weather when suddenly, out of nowhere, a tremendous downpour erupted. Luckily I had a waterproof camera with me only I myself had no coat or umbrella . On the last picture you see my standing place to avoid the wet weather. After about 20 minutes it was over and I could continue my way.

 Really wonder what that lady was thinking when she took a seat in this large bag cq basket at the flea market. One for James Weekend Street/Reflections here.

 Yes the flea market always attracts special visitors anyway as it did last Thursday. (Header from the parking of my former work during winter lighting festivities on the canals.)

 But there is also something about walking through the city in the pouring rain.

At least the flea market merchants held off.

 Surely the better way these days.

 Human facial expressions never cease to amaze me. Nothing more fun than observing them like here at the Waterlooplein market.

 I still wonder why people want to decorate like this . It's kind of fashion but still not really of the fast kind. I don't want to think about it but I guess that's just my age. (Header taking a break in a brown pub cafe Chris from 1624 in the Jordaan)

In addition to occasional unusual finds, there are many birds of paradise walking around. Always a pleasure to see.

 It was so stormy and wet Tuesday that the daily flea market at Waterlooplein was barely there. One for Skywatch Friday here.

 This collection of pins was on the shutter of a clothing container at the flea market on Waterlooplein. Last year all replaced with a new kind of container but not as nice as the old one.  Too bad. This one is for Sami's Colourful World here.

Yes on the market your dime is worth a dollar.
