Surprise from Lyon

Our daughter returned from a trip to Madrid with her husband on Friday and they decided to have lunch at the Bocuse halls in Lyon on the way back (by train). There, among other things, they saw this brioche filled with delicious sausage and came to bring it over on Sunday. Yes France is No. 1 when it comes to good food.

From the past

This is the cemetery from St. Paul de Vence in southern France.

with the tomb of Marc Chagall. One of the things you don't want to miss on a holiday. Hope that there is a time when we can go again.

Street photography

Lately I've been walking through my photo archive and I'm picking out the nicest photos from it, but I don't have any photos of my own taken at the moment. This is one of those moments you happen to run into.

Not really but

still one for Monday Murals this church door made by the local blacksmith in the middle ages near Chinon in France. Guy must have had a great understanding of how to make a horseshoe.

Trompe l'oeil

If you look unsuspectingly on a terrace around you did not notice that the street facade is painted for you actually.

This is the case in Limoges (France) and you really need to look hard to see it.
One for Monday murals here.

Fortified bridge

The Valentre bridge over the river Lot near Cahors in France. It seems to be the only fortified bridge in the whole of Europe. The building started in 1308 and was ready in 1378. The bridge was restored in 1879. I photographed the bridge in 2008 when on holiday in France. Then 630 years old.

Nearing the bridge you think that you are reaching Disneyland.

Rainy day in Lille

In the so called Euralille area in Lille France you find this 2 bridges. One for pedestrians and one for cyclists. Some of the buildings and the urban planning is from Rem Koolhaas. A dutch architect well known for his modern buildings with his office OMA.
One for sunday bridges here.

Fountain fence

The fountain on place Stanislas in Nancy France is part of a fence that locks the place from the garden behind. This was also one of the pictures I was lost for a long time but miraculous came back.

Shoe inspection

When walking on a flea market you have to look at the pavement for some discoveries. How are my shoes looking after 10 km strolling around.

No trouble in checking that.

Some more Lille impressions

Yes getting it home. Don't try it yourself.

All kind of visitors were present.

Proud vendors for cosmetics

and tyre sellers.

Yes , I had the impression that every nation of the world was here to do some business.

Braderie de Lille

Went yesterday with Bieb and daughter to the Braderie de Lille in France. Europe's greatest brocante market on the weekend with the first sunday in September. Yes it was very crowded as you can see here. The smoke came from all the barbecues preparing food the whole day long. If you are by car the nearest parking place is 15 km away because every free space is reserved months before. We took the bus, a three hour ride from Almere to Lille especially for this occasion starting at 6.45 AM en going back 7.30 PM.

The most merchandise is french of course.

I especially liked the Jielde lamps but the asking price I didn't found realistic.

It was no point to get a complete furnishing with accompanying paintings for a reasonable price. The real point is how to get it home. Tomorrow some more impressions.

Architectual excursions

Here a stair on the roof of Unité d'habitation by Le Corbusier in Marseille France. I saw this a year of twelve before on an architectural excursion to the south of France. It is a real eyeopener for everyone to visit this building and it expresses the use of using raw concrete as building material in a splendid way.

Here a detail that shows how much life is in just a raw concrete wall.
