A message from Italian Ambassador in Wellington Fabrizio Marcelli - Italian National Day 2020 - and a beautiful version of the Italian National Anthem

From the YouTube Channel of the Embassy of Italy in New Zealand

For the first time there will be no celebrations of the national day because of social distancing norms and the grief for the high number of victims related to covid-19. In Wellington the annual reception has been cancelled. Italian Ambassador Fabrizio Marcelli sends out a message of hope and courage for the future of our country. Non dimentichiamoci del nostro meraviglioso Paese nel giorno della sua festa. United we will succeed. Ambassador Fabrizio Marcelli

On the Italian National Day, the Italian Embassy in Wellington asked the Black Spider Stomp Trio to perform a jazz arrangement of the Italian national Anthem. Black Spider Trio is a Gypsy Jazz ensemble born in the heart of Wellington. The talents of these three virtuoso musicians combine to create a highly polished original repertoire featuring blazingly swift swing, deep sultry ballads, old-world waltzes and foot-stomping shuffles. They played packed shows to the Whanganui Jazz club, Taranaki Jazz club, Auckland's Creative Jazz Club as well as many shows around Wellington including well received gigs at Hashigo Zake, The Lido, San Francisco Bathhouse, Meow, Rogue and Vagabond and most recently a sold out show for the 2018 Wellington Jazz fest at The Third Eye. Suono Italiano 2019: Piano Recital by Alessandro Marangoni - 6 September, Auckland

The Dante Alighieri Society in Auckland in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy in Wellington, the Italian Cultural Institute in Sydney and the CIDIM - Italian National Music Committee, present a concert by Alessandro Marangoni in a piano recital entitled Rossini & Chopin: un dialogo romantico (Rossini and Chopin: a romantic dialogue). Among the most appreciated Italian pianists, Marangoni will deal with two apparently very different composers, who instead, thanks to the perspective of the musician, appear to be very close. Through a very stimulating and unusual program, Marangoni will eclectically exhibit the unlimited ability of Rossini to produce memorable and playful melodies establishing a dialogue with Fryderich Chopin, composer par excellence of piano works of the Romantic era.

A night at the Opera

Beautiful concert yesterday evening with Lilia Carpinelli, Luca Manghi and Matteo Napoli who performed music for piano and flute, and arias from Italian composers like Vivaldi, Puccini e Rossini, and famous Italian songs from Sica, De Curtis and De Crescenzo, among others. Below the finale of Non ti scordar di me (Ernesto De Curtis).

Grazie to the Italian Embassy in Wellington for organising this event!

Before the concert we observed a minute of silence to remember the victims of the horrific terrorist attack in Christchurch on Friday 15 March, and on the same evening, through a joint effort of the Dante Auckland and the ComItEs Wellington, we started a fundraising which we will keep open for the rest of this week at the Dante School.

Note Italiane, a series of concerts featuring internationally acclaimed Italian musicians

The Embassy of Italy in Wellington is pleased to present “Note Italiane”, a series of concerts featuring internationally acclaimed Italian musicians.

We welcome violinist Luca Ciarla during his Oceania tour, and are proud to host New Zealand-based Lilia Carpinelli (soprano), Luca Manghi (flute) and Matteo Napoli (piano) for their first public performance together.

We look forward to having you join us for the concerts and enjoy the talent of the performers and the diversity of the Italian music on display, buon ascolto! Free entry.

 Mediterramia

A creative and surprising violinist, Luca Ciarla easily transcends the boundaries among genres to trace an innovative musical path, a magical acoustic seduction in perfect balance between written compositions and improvisation, traditional and contemporary sounds.

Luca owns the stage with his fiddle and a few toy instruments. With a loop pedal, he performs live all the parts, playing the violin like a guitar, a cello or percussion. In this imaginative landscape, Luca sings, whistles, plays other little instruments and adds new virtuoso passages; music is continuously evolving into a dazzling solOrkestra!

The programme features unusual arrangements of traditional Italian folk tunes, music from the Mediterranean area and original compositions.

Auckland: Thursday 28 February 6 pm, St Matthew in the City - Free entry

Other dates are in Hamilton, Motueka, Picton: https://www.lucaciarla.com/tour/

A Night at the Opera

Italian-born New Zealand based artists, international performers Carpinelli, Manghi and Napoli will perform in public together for the first time, with a special programme prepared especially for this occasion. Their recital for soprano, flute and piano, will take us on a journey through Nineteenth-Century Italian Opera, with themes of popular arias by Vivaldi, Rossini, Puccini, Verdi as well as Italian traditional songs.

Auckland: Saturday 16 March 6pm, St Matthew in the City - Free entry
